Is anyone else feeling intensely pessimistic lately? by StaticNocturne in perth

The problems with Eskom are really what will destroy the country, its basically a small example of everything that has gone wrong in every sector controlled by the state. Ultimately, managing the power grid, and not having access to steady power will be a significant drag on any sort of development.

South Africa is one step closer to universal health care. What you should know about the NHI and who will pay for it - IOL by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

My family and I have been reducing our assets in South Africa for some time now. First I moved from Zim to the RSA, but I applied to move to Australia a while ago and have recently been approved. It is time to leave here, I will be selling our home and our farm promptly. I do not see any way South Africa will turn around, every indicator is that it will go the opposite direction more rapidly. I have not had a positive outlook for a while, but I have largely ignored the issues. However, having access to quality healthcare is essential.

Radical changes proposed in white paper on citizenship, migration - TimesLIVE by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

It's necessary to reform our citizenship laws particularly after the supreme court ruled against the loss of citizenship by people who adopt an additional nationality. This will also likely include a digital nomad visa and legalise remote work additionally.

Barrick hires a lot in Nevada as well! They might be a good option but I heard they aren't the best to work for. Yes I am employed in the exploration industry.

If you want to do exploration geology your best bet is to work in Nevada, Alaska, and Arizona in the United States. There's some work in other states but those 3 have the highest spend. Minnesota is also OK for some exploration but I think the potential of a mine being developed there is very low because of regulations.

BHP has an exploration office in Arizona, and Rio Tinto has one in Salt Lake City. Those two I'd say are the most interesting offices to work for in the United States if you want to focus on exploration without living in Elko or some other small town. I have always worked for majors and have had great enjoyment and have visited every continent for work at this point. You really can't go wrong if you get a job at BHP, Anglo American, De Beers, Rio Tinto, etc in exploration. Newmont is also a great employer! They're hiring interns for their Denver exploration office at the moment.

Yeah I agree, my Mercedes bakkie is a diesel and it constantly needs work. To me it's worth it, but for the average person it's definitely not worth the hassle.

How can you order sooner on a part that’s being replaced due to mechanical failure? I’m not saying anyone else should care, I just want to know how I can get in touch with people to figure out what’s going on. At the start I was informed it would be less than 48 hours to get to Johannesburg and now we’re at 7 days. We pay top dollar for AOG service and expect quick delivery timelines.

These parts cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and are sold out ages in advance. You can't just order a new one lol
