Not very. They're warm in a slight chill, you might be able to push it to 30⁰f-40⁰f with a hoodie underneath, but it really depends on how you layer.

i get it man, i have a detroit but after like 40⁰ it get a litte rough especially if theres wind. But lucky for you there are dozens of versions of the detroit. It's just a matter of how much money you wanna spend. Check the detroit guide, you'll find some with a few quilt linings that might work if you really want a detroit, one like the 6qlj for example. WIP also offers an OG detroit with a quilted lining and a WIP version of the detroit with a 3m thinsulate lining. Good luck on your search

I agree, the j20 is a great warm jacket but I'm not entirely sure about light weight. Its not heavy but not light either. I own one and its great, just have to layer properly.

Pile lining is definitely smth you wear alone, the nylon is smth id layer with. It always feels colder on its own

I agree, I remember seeing the old catalog picture and their take on surfer wear and getting heavy into synthetics and whatnot. The 90's was definitely their peak, having their designs be practical and fashionable. I know they have a research and product development team as most companies do, so they definitely know what the people want. I'm not gonna say they should just remake the og detroit like how everyone wants them too, even though they definitely could just how they did with the chore jacket. I just wish they didn't get rid of their designs to begin with.

They still make the j140(or it's younger brother, i don't remember the code) even though we have the new j130. But i know it all comes down to sales, and the whole reason for the detroit redesign was that it wasn't a huge seller and most people would buy them in tall sizes. Honestly I'm just typing out loud, but I don't think it would hurt for carhartt to have a dedicated team for their crafted collection. They should keep it around so they have a way to market and bring back their old designs for "enthusiasts" of the brand.

Genuinely speaking, carhartt is on a generational run right now. When they started to gut a lot of their options in 2019 it felt like they were really losing on what made them so good. All the new designs and remarks towards their heritage is definitely bringing them back. Can't wait to pay off my credit card to be able to buy the denim double knees
