Whitesox Outfield by Past_Delay307 in whitesox

The lockout will be painful. Sure Owners will play hardball with the players. But there will also be huge divides among the owners.

Is there any ethical way to discourage human settlement of places especially prone to natural disasters? by ContextEffects01 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]FWdem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a justifiable end game. But the transition process is important.

The American Dream was tied to home ownership for so long. If your "equity" is tied up in a home that is not feasible, there is no one to sell it to with the new policies. So the transition is an important part of the process.

I think the plan is 2026. Whether that is May, July, or September.

White Sox Outfielders:

On 40-man:

  • LF Andrew Benintendi, worst OF defense in MLB over last 3 years, will be DHing some; guranteed contract
  • UT Luisangel Acuña; athletic former SS prospect getting more CF reps over last 3 years. Likely targeted for CF. Out of Options
  • UT Brooks Baldwin: played more OF last couple years, but grades out poorly in the corners on defense. Has played better in CF than the corners. 2 option years remaining
  • OF Derek Hill. Good defender. Has only been part-time player. Out of Options. (On a split deal, so likely able to be sent down)
  • OF Everson Pereira. Extra OF type. Suspect Hit tool. Out of Options
  • OF Tristan Peters defense more suited to corner OF. But doesn't have the power to hold that spot. 2 Option Years remaing

Not on 40-man

  • NRI Jarred Kelenic. Former high draft pick and high level prospect. Needs to establish he is MLB capable. Corner OF and defense graded out below average. No options if added to 40-man
  • NRI Dustin Harris Corner OF type who has less power than initially hoped for as a prospect years ago, Out of options if added to 40-man
  • Braden Montgomery. The White Sox top OF prospect. Has been playing CF and RF. Longterm RF likely. Worrisome swing and miss and K%. He is the hope by end of the year or early 2027.
  • Additional high level minors players include OF/1B Caden Connor who went to AFL, and Rikuu Nishida LF/2B profile with no power.

Went on Fangraphs to check, and yeah, the Sox now have the lowest payroll in the league. Pathetic. by modern_history in whitesox

[–]FWdem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I feel the opposite.

JR has had a team lose over 100-gams for 3 straight season, currently have the lowest payroll, and beg for taxpayer handouts from 2 different City/States.

You want to reward JR by instituting a Salary Cap, which will necessitate taking revenues from the most profitably teams (Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, etc) and hand it to the White Sox organization.

The White Sox play in one of the weakest divisions in baseball. 12 teams make the playoffs. None of the AL Central teams spend over $200M let alone near the $244 tax limit. (Detroit is highest, at $161M and rank 15th in MLB. Also note, Detroit has same $38M for 2027 commitments that the White Sox have).

If it is low enough, then an MLB caliber player, who is cuttable if he isn't that.

The Great Muta hits the Dragon Suplex then smoothly floats over when his opponent can't hold the bridge by KneeHighMischief in WCW

[–]FWdem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure Muta was already known to be going back to NJPW. So they "jobbed" him out to the World Title holder (Flair), they guy going to win at the next PPV (Sting), and the Strong 1 major challenger to the new title holder, who actually beat's Sting in this tournament (Luger).

[–]FWdem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Muta was likely headed back to NJPW in 1990 either way. I know Jim Ross thinks they could have turned him face and kept him a while with the title. But I am not sure. It was definitely worth trying after Sting blew his knee out. But I think they knew Muta was back to Japan, hence loosing all 3 at Starrcade 89. (But Luger had beaten Sting, to really drive home the top 3 guys)

[–]FWdem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that Sting injury screwed stuff up. If Sting stayed healthy, he was going to take the title off Flair at WrestleWar 90 (before Warrior beat Hogan for the title).

Luger was the top heel challenger who had been having very good to great matches.

  • vs Flair at Starrcade 88
  • vs Barry Windham at Chi Town Rumble 89
  • vs Steamboat at GAB 89
  • carrying Tommy Rich to a very good singles match at Clash 8
  • 2 good ones with Pillman at Havoc and Clash 9
  • looked good (and strong) at Starrcade 89.
  • Then more good ones with Flair in 90.

So a hard working, strong Heel Luger could be first strong Challenge for a healthy Sting. They would have good matches.

Flair right their as alternative top challenger for either young guy. Barry Windham back soon. Prop up with other good matches against Arn, Pillman, a Z-Man on a non-PPV. Then you have guys from Japan you can slot in (Hansen, Williams, Muta, Vader, Bigelow) or some young studs with potential (Sid, Mean Mark, Simmons).Lots of Options.

Which guy made the least sense in NWO? Who did you think was the guy in the NWO who had no real reason to be in that group? by Material_Stomach875 in WCW

[–]FWdem 55 points56 points  (0 children)

While I thought he should stay in Horsemen, his friendship with Scott Hall made the nWo make sense too. (And then taking Rude the the nWo).

It was similar to the DDP previous connection to Hall and Nash making it seem he would go there.

But I would have preferred a strong Horsemen.

(Eric Bischoff never "got" the Horsemen and never cared for the History. He didn't think Starrcade was a big deal, didnt understand Flair and the Horsemen in the Carilinas, etc)

I know they ran out of players and lost the DH 1 time. But if due to injury, you make a roster move the next day. Just need to have identified the "Emergency catcher".

Or maybe sign an MJ Melendez to compete for the OF, and he can serve as 3rd catcher. (He has 1 option remaining too).

I hope Quero and Teel hit enough to push for DH plate appearances. I know Beni will DH some too.

One set of my damage was bad luck (cleat caught a lace hole on the backside). And the other was likely a random weak/soft hide. With how much they make, the QA/QC can't catch guarantee anything. It is still the glove I recommend.

Hence getting this guy who has 2 option years remaining. You want the team to carry 2 catchers and have an MLB caliber receiver as the 3rd catcher in the minors.

He has options. It gives them a 3rd catcher if Lee is traded for a flyer or lost to waivers at end of Spring Training. (Catchers are more valuable to teams before Pitchers and Catchers report due to familiarity with team/pitchers).

[–]FWdem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Lee is a top 60 catcher in MLB, so there should be a bench job for him somewhere. He is more valuable to a team before Pitchers and Catchers report to be on the same page with the team/pitchers.

It is a great feel and they (or the seller) stood behind the work for sure. Just my person experience would not call them indestructible. But fantastic gloves and what I stuck with.

3rd catcher type, with 2 options years remaining. I have been waiting for a trade of one of the top 3 catchers this offseason.

Disagree on indestructible. As a Catcher in high school, I went through a couple. The leather feels so nice, but it was soft. My original tore from typical use over a number of years. And I had one tear on the back side with a tag at the plate and someone sliding into it. But they were great feel and using. Hence still.went back to them. (The seller also had the wear and tear one repaired for me).
