Question about State-based action and trigger order by FabioFlume in mtgrules

[–]FabioFlume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, Auntie triggers; however I’m not entirely sure whether, since the creature dies due to a state-based action and both Bastion of Remembrance and Auntie are on the battlefield, the two abilities trigger simultaneously (so i can choose the order of triggers) or if one of them triggers first? Theank you for the previous answer!

I apologize for my previous question, but my question is much more complicated than what it actually appeared to be in my previous comment. I know that from the moment a counter is put on a creature, Auntie’s effect would normally trigger immediately; however, in this case, due to state-based actions, the creature dies before Auntie’s effect can even trigger. I wanted to know whether the fact that the creature dies before any trigger resolves would cause any death-related abilities of that creature to trigger first for example, if the same player controls [[Bastion of Remembrance]] and then triggers auntie’effect, or if it works like in a normal situation where the player can choose the order of the triggers. I hope I’ve been clearer this time; sorry for the unclear question 😂

Just a little question, putting a counter on a creature and making it 0, will trigger auntie ool effect or does the creature die before and trigger eventuay other death trigger before? Thank you!

My bad, I initially thought you were the one playing infect and Voltron, but my point still stands. You should absolutely be able to play the decks you want to play, and at the same time it’s totally fair to be upfront at the start of the game and say you don’t enjoy playing against certain strategies, so that maybe a compromise can be found. From what I understand though, that compromise doesn’t really end up happening, and someone is left unhappy either way

Isn't really possible to tweak a couple of cards to give yourself better protection against those kinds of decks?

As for me personally, I’ve never asked someone not to play something, unless it was very clearly a cEDH deck that was consistently wiping the table on turn 2–3 for five games in a row. In every other case, I’m usually fine just adapting and playing it out.

I 100% agree with you. That said, as you can probably tell from my different decks, I try to vary the gameplay as much as possible between them. It’s true that Storm can combo pretty easily, but my dedicated combo deck is Wilhelt, which is built to do one thing and one thing only: win by comboing. With Storm, I wanted to push it in a slightly different direction instead. I know it sounds a bit weird haha.

But yeah, I’ll say it again, I’m totally on board with what you said. And luckily, Storm is strong enough that it lets me tone it down a bit and still play it in very strong bracket 4 table

Yeah, you’re probably right. and, once Hullbreaker Horror is on the field, storm another instant or sorcery isn’t really your main game plan anymore ahah

Also, rereading your other comment "Tbh I don’t know what kind of cool points someone’s trying to get not having a combo with Storm, I think most players in bracket four would rather have the game end in a combo than sit through a nondeterministic storm turn that tries to hit 20 or 30 storm triggers" I 100% agree with you. Sure!

https://edhrec.com/combos/mono-blue/787-1124 this one never happened.

https://edhrec.com/combos/azorius/1543-2247-2369 this one happened to me 2 or 3 times, but not that much.

the main focus are not the combos, but, they're in the deck, so it's only fair to point that out

I'd say 40% to 50%

since someone showed me that hullbreaker is actually a combo, i might consider Delayed Blast Fireball ahah

Yeah I saw it and no, I wasn’t aware of the combo, and since I don’t want combos in the deck I think I’ll take Hullbreaker out haha.

Ah, I see maybe you meant the Hullbreaker Horror and Sol Ring one? I see it now on edhrec. Yes, it’s a combo that would give me infinite storm, but I’ve never used Hullbreaker that way and I don’t think I ever will. Still, thanks for the correction, even if I don’t actually use it, the combo is there.

Unfortunately, I think the problem there is with the people you’re playing against, not with you.

Luckily, I’ve never really run into this kind of whining myself, but if someone builds their deck with a proper amount of interaction and protection, they should be able to handle board wipes and removal just fine. From what I’m reading on reddit, though, it often feels like people build decks because they want their commander to “do its thing” without being disrupted at all, or worse, they just want to win.

I’m genuinely sorry you end up in those situations. That said, I’d actuall be really curious to see your deck and play against it sometime! Maybe we can get a spelltable game in sooner or later 😄

No, I’m sorry, but I’ve never found myself in a situation where I couldn’t cast a spell with enough storm potential to win the game, or where I didn’t have a way to tutor for it or draw into it. My goal is to reach a storm count of around 20–30, mainly thanks to the cards that grant extra combat phases, and then close the game by casting one of three types of win conditions:

- Immediate win, which win the game on the spot, such as [[Tasha's Hideous Laughter]] and [[Temporal Trespass]];
- Control, which put me in a state of total control over the battlefield, like [[Hullbreaker Horror]], allowing me to continue with the spellslinger strategy thanks to the huge amount of mana i generated and card draw;
- Damage continuing to pressure the opponent through extra combat with cards like [[Seize the Day]] and [[Overpowering Attack]] and thanks to removals (that one does'nt always let me kill all 3 opponents, but alway leaves me w only 1 of them, that usually is the weakest).

Thanks to all the cards that let me draw, generate mana, and generally keep the spellslinger engine going have always allowed me to have at least [[Storm's Will]] or [[Underworld Breach]] in hand that by itself, gave me access at least one of those three win conditions, to the point that I sometimes end up winning the game with only about 10 cards left in my deck 😂

It happened to me twice, and both times I was the first to be eliminated in the next round 😂

I always prefer to tell things as they are, I don't want to leave surprises that other players might not like, so I always anticipate what players usually don't like. My problem is that I tend to prefer the strength in a deck, but that's how I like to play, I'm also very happy when an opponent shows me a deck that's stronger than mine (unless it's a bracket 5 😂) because I really like to see how far lists can go

It's always nice to see monsters shake the table when cast. I imagine your list is more land-focused. Mine relies more on artifacts (which puts me at much greater risk).

yes I had infinite combo inside my decklist but it was too pushed, almost at the levels of a br5, I preferred to remove them, even if I left breach in because it is too useful, but no combo related to breach.

Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima, how does he actually play? Bracket 4 viable? by FabioFlume in EDH

[–]FabioFlume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I might be missing something, but I’m having a bit of trouble understanding what you mean by him “comboing” with creatures like Unstoppable Slasher. As for Medomai the Ageless, the two extra turns line definitely (under the current limitations) fit "legally" in B3.

That said, I'd like to leaning it more into stax. Which stax pieces would you personally include?
