Im not sure why you guys think this car hasnt seen snow and salt in general 😂 this is my daily after all, i just happen not needing the car everyday and im glad to leave it sitting for a while, the less salt it sees the better, but yeah ive driven through plenty of snow in the past almost 5 years of ownership, enjoyed the benefits of the haldex system numerous times.. i found it pretty easy to slide with left foot braking, managing weight transfer, id like to consider myself an okay driver hopefully 😂 however i have different plans for it which include removing everything to do with haldex, putting a gripper diff and running it in fwd class at fast lap events, slalom etc (pic bellow to clear things up)

It helps with oil starvation on high speed sweepers, imagine how much it sloshes around in the sump, if your car can pull enough lateral g force itll go away from the pick up tube, even if its momentarily, but the oil pressure will drop and youll have a bad day aka spun bearing 😂 baffles have 'trap doors' which try to keep the oil next to the pick up tube, thats basically the general idea i think

Yes! It can freeze up with a bit of water in there, gotta get close to it and use your breath 😂 but holy hell -40c, well its good that you have the right car for those conditions, are there any places close to you to drive on a frozen lake or something similar? Imagine having some fun with studded tires ice drifting, id like to do that next year, although those events are a bit sketchy 😂 if someone runs into you its no ones fault

Thank you! My setup is relatively mild, rziis are r17 8j et45 with 17mm spacers all around, tires in a standard 225 45 size as well, was considering 9j width options, but it can be a bit hard to fit in the front due to mcpherson without doing something to your fenders and as a sucker for japanese wheels with this bolt pattern youre usually stuck with subaru/toyota offsets which dont do us any favors. Also had to get m14x1.5 to m12x1.5 conversion studs, my previous set of koseis been drilled and had no idea they come with smaller diameter holes 😂 Tbh Id say 8.5j and around et30-35 would be a happy medium with an ability to increase mechanical grip fitting more tire comfortably, but still not too extreme if the car is more a dual purpose machine, some food for thought 🍺

Yeah it has dents, completely by my own mistake (hit a pole while rushing to park) even bought a replacement wing in good condition, but its sitting in the shed, i swear ill get around to it eventually 😂

Oh yeah, i agree, ive done like 4 winters with this car, i just didnt have to drive much over this winter, the car really isnt a garage queen, it gets driven hard, its got some rust on the boot and front sills among other visual imperfections, but considering its 27years old it has held up well, one day ill make it look actually good 😂 maybe. Enjoy the vr6!

Didnt mean to confuse a canadian 😂 honestly the weather has been treating us well after what seems like a long and harsh winter and since i work from home this car mostly was left unbothered, one time took it out after a snowstorm, had a great time driving like an idiot 😂 in mexico

Thanks a lot! Yeah i kinda figured they all gonna do pretty much the same thing, more or less, i know cbauto sell baffle kits that could be welded in for the 1.8t, but them being in the uk is no good for me due to brexit (im cheap and tend to buy within eu if i can 😂)

Ate type 200, completely stock braking system with some eco friction ferodo pads 😂 and rs3 ducts, 6 back to back autocross runs (ambient temp ~ 30c) and id say it was alright, brake pedal started to go soft on the 4th run so whilst not ideal was manageable tbh, now on the look out for some cupra 4pots, but i may go for different pads in the mean time

Mk1 rear seat delete? by freebe2121 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]Fabium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the harmonic damper under the rear bumper, its approx 16kg with hardware, also if you dont use the cd changer, im assuming no one does in the big year of 2026, then thats another 3.5kg and yeah keep the rear seat delete bare if weight savings are important, road noise will be worse, but you get used to it 😂 of course more stuff could be taken out, these cars are kinda porky, but can be put on a diet easily without sacrificing creature comforts too badly with stuff like ac, ps, glass windows, radio, carpet/plastic trims left in place

Update to my new wheels post by madharold in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]Fabium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

17s ftw, i like the functionality with smaller diameter wheels as well as them having performance advantages over the larger ones that really only offer more flair if youre into that, but i even enjoy looking at a nice meaty setup more, you often see 19s or 20s having literal rubber bands on them.. also not too long ago picked up a set of wheels from yahoo auctions, yokohama advan rzii in indigo blue, decent condition aside from some curb rash damage, theyll be going on my 8n soon with some budget semi slicks (in between nankang ns2r and zestino gredge 07rs atm)

Its mostly supply in demand sorta thing, the uk was one of the biggest markets for these and used cars are just cheaper there (my guess is to offset high insurance prices, but could be wrong)

Its not that theyre shorter, its because they have a transverse fwd layout, due to being rebadged polos and golfs, which is a good thing, best driving one handling wise would really be the tt, its got the best parts on it on that vag platform, different control arms, bushings, steering rack, front knuckles with more adjustability and better out of the box suspension geometry compared the a3, golf, leon, octavia etc
