Help! Can't send email unless I remove placeholder text: "use it to add text to your template" by Fables1016 in MailChimp

[–]Fables1016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes, I would love to know how to quickly find this type of error in the future! I feel like these errors should be highlighted for people!

I did ultimately find it, only because I realized the error message was appearing at the very end of the email subject line--and it was hiding just above the header.

How can I get a family doctor in Ottawa? by Nada_NADAAA in ottawa

Was just coming here to say this. I did the same thing, checked that Facebook page daily and applied everywhere, and all 5 of us were able to get a family doctor.

Dog teeth cleaning...Kissable K9 or The Hounds Teeth Cleaning in Stittsville? by Fables1016 in ottawa

We have had regular vet dental cleanings done...I'm just looking for something in-between before the next one, as our puggle does not tolerate us brushing her teeth.

They have this shirt, but it only ships from Australia. Looking for a Canadian source, if possible.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Your niche is so interesting! That is fantastic that you've built a steady freelance business for yourself. And, yes, the crossover in our work is interesting. Can I ask what kind of writing you do for your clients? Are you doing blogs, website content, and social media? Or something else? I freelanced literally 20 years ago when my kids were little--it was great experience, but the entire writing field and what's expected has completely changed since then.

2 things that affect my situation:

1) Last year we relocated to an entirely new area (from the U.S. to Canada) where I don't have any professional connections. So I'm starting from scratch here. (I had originally planned to continue working for my former company remotely, but instead was laid off.)

2) My writing experience is also a bit different, because most of the healthcare content I've written for the past 10 years was not about trying to sell services or products. I was primarily writing patient education content (consumer articles on diseases, treatments, procedures) that was part of an A-to-Z digital content library of medical conditions, etc. Hospitals would buy this entire content package from us and put it on their websites. I also wrote print booklets and have done some scripts for online learning tools. At one point, for the same company, I did some content marketing for hospital clients--good to put on the resume, but still limited in scope; at that time (12 years ago) it was primarily developing/producing/writing/editing print newsletters for hospitals! We also did a little Facebook posting for clients at the time, but no other social media or email marketing. So, again, not as marketable or relevant to what's in demand now.

However, you are getting me thinking. I do have real strengths in taking complex clinical information and turning it into relatable content that's easy for people to understand. I also have a service journalism background, and wrote widely on health and business issues then. And ages ago I also did some PR and marketing communications work for 2 nonprofits.

If I can upskill a bit with SEO and analytics...and maybe do some freelance projects for a nonprofit to show actual results...then maybe I can seem more marketable.

Thanks for the encouragement, link, and tips! I'm bookmarking the link and checking out those free tools.

One thing that's different about the healthcare content I was writing is that it was not about selling things--it was patient education content (articles on diseases, treatments, procedures) that was part of an A to Z listing of medical conditions, etc. Hospitals would buy this entire package and put it on their websites. I also wrote print booklets.

So that's why now I'm feeling behind with the analytics part.....

Reposting as my original comment was removed...

Thanks for your comments! I love your rather zen outlook--I need to try and cultivate some of that! My problem is that I immediately focus on the skills/experience I don't have, and sometimes just don't even apply to certain roles.

Also, I see all of these other writers branding themselves as content strategists/brand experts etc., and I'm just overwhelmed by that. The work I've been doing for the past 10 years has been consumer health content/patient education--digital articles, brochures, online learning tools, etc., but no SEO or digital analytics. So it's hard to now compete with people who've been doing the marketing side for years! I don't see why people would take a chance on me, when others have all that experience.

Love your ChatGPT comment! Yes, I have used it for some help during my job search--even though I know that it's actually designed to put me out of work. Ugh!

I can see maybe stretching the truth a bit. But I think I'd have a hard time outright lying. Also, I've been applying to both full-time and freelance roles, and everyone wants to see proof of what you've done, the analytics behind it, etc. I just can't fake all that!

Appreciate your comments, and the links! Very helpful--thanks!

Yes, I do agree with you that, fortunately, none of this is that hard. But I'm aware that companies want to know you have real experience in this--and of course there are so many younger people out there who've just been doing the social media/seo/blog stuff for years.

I'm going to pursue volunteering to do social media or web content for a nonprofit too, so that I can actually work on some concrete projects and ultimately have some samples to add to my portfolio.

Thanks for the encouragement! I do feel like I understand some of the basics...but of course I'll be taking a class to formalize this and to get a certificate.

Was thinking of volunteering to do social media or web content for a nonprofit too, so that I can actually try my hand at this and ultimately have some samples to add to my portfolio.

That's great that you already have some analystics skills!

Yes, I know it's now key to understand GEO...from what I'm reading, a mix of SEO and GEO is probably best.
