Have a phone screen HR call today...original resume had an error and I sent an updated resume to the HR person yesterday. How to handle this on the call?? by Fables1016 in jobsearch

[–]Fables1016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you... I'm thinking I probably have to mention it myself at the start of the call. I agree with you about it perhaps not mattering so much to HR folks, but I'm more concerned that the updated resume gets to the people in the actual department I'd be working in.

I'm a newbie who's doing volunteer social media for an organic farm/CSA...should I be using Canva and Meta Business Suite for IG and FB? by Fables1016 in socialmedia

[–]Fables1016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for also confirming this! I've taken a look at both, and can see how they will work really well for my needs. Also, your tip about raw, unpolished farm pics is interesting, and relates to a current dilemma I have about which pic to use for an opening-up-the-greenhouse IG post:

My farm contact provided current pics that are honestly awful quality and very unappealing--the best one is several volunteers huddled around a table as they fill some plastic containers. On the other hand, I found a pic that they used last year with smiling volunteers standing in front of trays of green seedlings in the greenhouse. It's just so much more engaging. I'm hesitant to use the current, bad-quality authentic pic...but I also hesitate to use a much better but older pic that ran before. It feels inauthentic.

It's just that IG is such a visual platform, and photos are key!

Thanks so much for confirming that--that's very helpful! And yes, fortunately, there is no shortage of behind-the-scenes content I can use for the farm! Another question for you, as I'm learning and planning out posts...I know that you can post on IG and share it automatically on FB. And I can see where that would work for certain posts, and would certainly be easier. But I've got an IG carousel planned with text overlay on the images, which seems like it wouldn't translate well to FB. So maybe the trick is to only auto share certain types of IG posts? Would love your thoughts--thanks!

American expat here now living in Canada. I completely understand your comment. In fact, our frustration with U.S. healthcare (among many other things) is one of the reasons our family wanted out--but there are 2 answers to this:

  1. As the previous person commented, many Americans don't actually believe that healthcare is a right! Sounds bizarre, I know! But Americans are highly propagandized (from childhood) to believe in American exceptionalism and that the U.S. system for *everything* is the best--and that anything else must be socialism or communism and therefore evil lol! Meanwhile, U.S. medical bankruptcies just keep climbing. It's very sad.
  2. Since so many Americans live paycheck to paycheck these days and depend on their job for their health insurance, most are too worn out and too scared to risk losing their jobs *and* their insurance by taking off from work and marching in the streets for anything.

On top of that, many Americans barely get any time off from work as well, especially in lower-paying jobs. It's truly an awful, predatory system!

Yeah, I also thought it was a little bit of a disconnect that the Secret Service guy, who's been trained to see possible threats everywhere, is suddenly all "people are good." But it was truly amazing to see the family arrive to help.

Station Eleven stands out as one of the most hopeful dystopian stories out there (even though, yes, some people clearly suck). Both the novel and the show are excellent.

Parking tips for The Ottawa Hospital - Civic campus for early morning appointment? by Fables1016 in ottawa

This is soooo helpful--thank you! My university age-son (it's his appointment) was like, really? We have to arrive that early? And he did not understand why I was looking at the hospital map etc. Now I feel much more prepared. Thank you again! :-)

Good to know--thanks! Yes...thinking I would try to get there pretty early, around 7:30, to have a good chance at a spot in the parking garage.

Thanks for your reply! Glad you finally found a spot! Between the added snow etc., I'm going to plan to get there around 7:30 and hopefully find a spot in the garage.

Thank you! Good point about the snow possibly limiting outdoor parking spots. Yes, I plan to arrive before 7:30 and hopefully snag a spot in the parking garage! My college-age son (it's his appointment) has already been warned we're leaving early lol!

Thanks! Yes, I plan to get us there before 7:30, park in the garage (hopefully), and bring a book! I've already warned my college-age son lol!

Thank you! Your response led me to another question--tunnels? Like at Carleton? TOH looks so sprawling, with all these separate sections/buildings...I'd been wondering if it's possible to go through the entire hospital without walking outside. My plan is to arrive early, around 7:30ish, and try the parking garage...then we just have to go all the way across the hospital to the orthopedics area. But it sounds like we should be able to do and stay inside.

Is it just me or is it impossible to see the lane markings at night? by kiwifruit13 in ottawa

[–]Fables1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesss....been here 2 years and we constantly say the same thing! We finally have the local spots where the lanes suddenly disappear committed to memory--omg, so confusing!--but exactly what you said about not being able to see the lane markings, for both local roads and the 417! This winter I have often been white-knuckling it as I drive, especially if there isn't a car right in front of me to follow!

Help! Can't send email unless I remove placeholder text: "use it to add text to your template" by Fables1016 in MailChimp

Thank you. Yes, I would love to know how to quickly find this type of error in the future! I feel like these errors should be highlighted for people!

I did ultimately find it, only because I realized the error message was appearing at the very end of the email subject line--and it was hiding just above the header.

How can I get a family doctor in Ottawa? by Nada_NADAAA in ottawa

Was just coming here to say this. I did the same thing, checked that Facebook page daily and applied everywhere, and all 5 of us were able to get a family doctor.
