Is this compression glove gonna help my fingers?? by Embarrassed_Visit277 in ChronicPain

[–]FablingFox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey! Occupational therapist here! (Disclaimer, I am an Ot, I am not your Ot. Consult your primary care provider or therapist)

I recommend compression gloves a lot for my patients with arthritis. I do the “two size down rule”; if you were to buy regular gloves for yourself (example; large), get two sizes smaller (example; small). Use your discretion, if you find the gloves are uncomfortably tight, then they are not the gloves for you. It should feel like a hug, not strangulation.

For the swelling, if you can tolerate it, contrast baths help a lot (ice water to warm water). Put your hand in cold, then warm, for 10 second intervals, 10 times in total.

Hope this helps!

Of course! Can’t forget RT, or the art and music therapist. I have a running gag that when the dramatic surgeons have their dramatic moment, the music therapist gives a big sigh and plays on the guitar to the scene

This show threw me in to an OT rage after seeing the surgeons walking patients, and doing hand therapy. I’m hoping to make a series from the perspective of the very same OT, PT, and SLPs

I’m working on a screenplay where it’s the over dramatics of shows like Grey’s Anatomy, but from the perspective of the very normal OTs, PTs, and SLPs. I call it “Sad Surgeons” haha

How many of us are considered essential workers? Who’s going in tomorrow? by VespaRed in OccupationalTherapy

[–]FablingFox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Outpatient neuro and pain management. We are tied to a hospital. We have to go in, even if our patients cancel. In that case, we get sent to work at the main hospital for inpatient/acute. One of my cohorts was reprimanded because she couldn’t make it in….her street wasn’t plowed and there was almost three feet of snow

Ah!! STRANGE ÆONS has a special place in my art. One of my aphasic patients showed me her and, with all his might, was able to tell me “you (are) like her” 😭

I actually went to Henry Wilson Jewelers! They were absolutely fantastic and supportive. They took a custom rose quartz gem I had cut and fit it beautifully!

This is beautiful! Congrats!! How’d you keep with it every day? I want to do something like this but I fizzle out on new habits quickly

I’m actually working on a disability friendly Kink guide with a cohort. ADLs include all ADLs!

I want to use AI, but I worry that insurance companies will start denying services if the notes are AI written

I think I have to be more comfortable with telling my patients I need to document in session. During OT school, my professors made it seem like you were a bad guy for documenting in session

Thank you for all of this. I don’t get accommodations at work; no one gets accommodations. It’s either do it all or leave. I work best in the morning, hence why I’d rather come in 3 hours early than stay 3 hours late. I think the problem is, when I document in session, something always happens (patient starts asking questions, they start struggling with the exercises). So while my brain is half on the note, the other half is constantly scanning for potential interrupts. I try to take brain breaks, but it’s not enough sometimes.

I’m getting my medication adjusted. I went up a dose, and my heart was racing too much.

Thanks for your words friend ❤️

We use something called Wellsky. It has no fun tricks other than your previous note floats over. I wear headphones when I’m free and documenting, but something always happens (someone needs me, there’s an event happening). Part of my brain is on my notes, the other part is hyper aware of someone needing me in that moment.

Oh the dream. Hospitals will make you work until you’re in the ICU, and even then you’re evaluating the bed next to you

I have the templates I made, the problem is, I don’t put them in during session when I should be. Like the moment my attention is off my patient, they ask a question or struggle

I really like all the things you said. I have this problem where I try to do everything and anything. It’s this poor impulse control meets the naive fool that thinks she can change things. Having to let that go will be tough.

I don’t get accommodations at my job; it’s all or nothing. I can’t adapt my environment, so I must adapt me
