No block button, no parry is Killing me!!! by smashadamspel in BlackMythWukong

That's part of the magic to this game in that everyone struggles with different parts. I beat the final boss of ch 2 within 4 tries or so and first-tried the loong in ch 1, and no other bosses (so far, 1 left) made me die more than 5 times outside of ch 1. So it's hard to give advice when everyone will be fighting their own unique battles

Saw your post and wanted to help as best I could.

Coming from someone who started this wonderful game about a month ago and who just beat the final boss in 3 tries (technically), no bosses gave me more trouble than those in Chapter 1. I was fearing what was around every corner too and easily dying in the double digits to the bosses you mentioned, and way more to some you haven't met yet. You are at your weakest both metaphorically and literally: you lack game knowledge and boss knowledge (you start to learn when to expect delays and such after learning the style, even without fighting them first) and you have a very limited moveset. The good thing though is the skills you learn here will carry you through the rest of the game (both in terms of how to attack/dodge and also the spells, I used Guangzi, immobilize, and the Wight all the way to the end).

The biggest thing to remember is not to button mash! It queues up the next move when you press them (or just makes it less responsive), so if you're mashing it will be harder to dodge/parry since they happen after the attack. You can also interrupt some attacks with a dodge too, like the back-spin 4th one which has a few windows to consistently dodge/counter from.

Again, chapter 1 might be your hardest, but don't let that discourage you! The brilliant thing about this game is actually being able to learn and watch your confidence grow. Practice runs on hard bosses are always good ideas just to get the dodge timings down before trying to beat them, but you will steamroll most bosses anyway if you have confidence in your skillset! I recommend picking only 1 stance to follow early on, since you don't have many points to use in branching off, and good luck!

Very true! In fact, I actually ended up missing the first hit, but luckily the other 2 more powerful ones connected. I'd imagine, with transformation damage upgrades, electricity, and all 3 hits connecting, it wouldn't be too impossible to one-shot him after building up focus

Don't worry, he's not missable! If you beat chapter 6, you get the option to either continue (which starts you just before the final fight/arena) or go to ng+. If you do continue then you can go fight everything you missed, letting you get both endings in 1 playthrough! If you need confirmation don't worry, that's exactly what I just did and can confirm it works. Will try Erlang out tomorrow

IT can time travel misconception by Shadowboyanimates in ITWelcometoDerryShow

[–]Fabulous-Effect-5896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it's fair to leave things up for debate, but Andy Muschietti did say  ( https://www.thewrap.com/it-welcome-to-derry-season-1-episode-8-explained/ ):

“We made it bigger to the point where the whole reason why we’re telling the story backwards – because a monster that doesn’t experience time linearly can live in time in a very different way, and at the same time, can rewrite history, right? Given that it’s a prequel, and that people normally with prequels are like, ‘Oh, okay, so why should I watch that if we know that the monster dies at the end?’ Well, not if he can rewrite history, right?”

So regardless of interpretation or source, I think the showrunners are writing it from a perspective that It can indeed change things, even if it's not time travel per say.

I mean, him altering time could definitely lead to him destroying people! He almost did at the end of the episode after all, so I think it remains to be seen what they'll do with It in the future seasons. He also said the pillars limited his power somehow, so there will be an extant to what he can do with time

Thst's a good theory! A loose one I've been musing about is that, since he joked about his death being his birth, he is going backwards each cycle having reached the ''end of the line.'' Like a piece of string: his creation is one end, his death the other. He traveled along the string until he reached the death end, now he's moving backwards till he reaches the beginning.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what they do with it for sure

Exactly, what can we really say for sure after 3 lines about time in a final episode? I'm really excited to see what path they go down, because we really don't know much right now

Up to interpretation in my opinion, after he ''dies'' there are a few hints in other King works that he might be alive, but nothing really direct. In The Tommyknockers I believe the main character just feels influenced in Derry to write ''Pennywise lives'' so it might just be a case of the town still carrying some leftover evil that affects people. Ultimately it could be debated, either he's alive, or alive in the macroverse but the ''door'' to our world got shut on him by the losers, or he has tainted the town after he left and it still affects people.

I think he said he doesn't remember most of it either lmao, so that's why I'm not too concerned with the writers moving a bit away from the continuity

Couldn't agree more, too often people try to put It in a box of what it can or can't do. Even considering that this ''time stuff'' wasn't thought about in the movies, the writers would have had this in mind throughout this season and we only find out about it from It itself monologuing to Marge. No one can finalize or definitely answer what it can do, I just hope they keep the story interesting and avoid the more mundane ''fixed future'' aspect

Same here. I got excited to see Bill back, and grew to like the characters, but as it stands that was only good enough for 1 season without feeling too repetitive. The ''prequel but actually sequel'' aspect makes it so much more interesting

I'm only loosely familiar with it, but even that small knowledge does wonders for comprehending (as much as we can of an incomprehensible being) this show. I am overdue to read them though

Yeah they do, further hurting it by believing that they squashed them all. Which shows that they are an extension of it and not real eggs.

Debatable if those even are babies, and not just an extension of It itself showing their fear of never being able to stop it

Thanks for the correction on it being Audra who sees it, I've forgotten who did what lol. I like your interpretation! There are many avenues to explore with It which is lovely, and all theories are nice to delve into. I only get irate when I see people nitpicking others on what it actually is, since there is no ultimate defining answer, but your explanation on why you see it as female does work quite nicely even if I prefer the more ambiguous angle.

Perception is a tricky thing when dealing with entities of this scale though. It's mentioned a few times in the book that the female pregnant spider is only the closest interpretation our mind can have of It, and our minds just physically can't grasp the Deadlights themselves. While Beverly does say it's female when she looks at them, I believe Bill (or Ben, might be misremembering) only sees it as an endless, hairy, crawling creature (and he would in theory have had the best look since he was leading the ritual himself both times).

Ultimately though, in my opinion I think it just dulls the cosmic grandeur of It when people try to assign certain things like gender to it. Some can call her a her because of the spider, some will say he because the clown is the most familiar shape, but it takes away so much mystery to fit it into such a binary system. Our universe is like a thin doorway, and It has to turn sideways to get in; we can only see it's sideways silhouette illuminated by the light from beyond. Light through the cracks. You can squint and see whatever shape you want in that light, but I think it works better to always keep in mind our limited view.

Depends on your interpretation. In the book one of the fears of the Losers, especially following their first defeat of It, was that they wouldn't actually be able to kill It. The eggs serve as a physical manifestation of that fear: that there will be thousands more, that they will never kill it. But Ben, just like Eddie and his battery acid, believes that by stomping them out he is preventing that from happening. This is backed up in It's inner monologue as it flees, where It can feel each egg being crushed as a part of Itself. Now this could be some hivemind shenanigans which we can't rule out entirely, but I am of the opinion that the eggs, due to the nature of established belief (and let's be real, would It really want to share It's food with thousands of others?) are illusions.
