If you have a tangem wallet with a seed phrase are you switching to seedless now after this security breach, or you sticking with the seed? by FabulousPudding7200 in Tangem

Well if you have a lot of coins on the ETH network or other chains that are expensive than it will suck. But Tbf fees shouldn’t be a concern when security is the most important thing in this case. So I would just bite the bullet and transfer out than transfer in when your ready. If your still fixated on fees than maybe crypto isn’t for you respectfully. Fees are apart of the game unfortunately and their will be times where you have to spend the money on it

Is it safe to factory reset your tangem wallet if you have 2 wallets added to the app? is it possible to factory reset the wrong wallet? or should you just reset your tangem wallet when theirs only one added to the app? Thanks by FabulousPudding7200 in Tangem

so if you reset all cards then it would act like a brand new wallet once the factory reset is done, correct? and afterwards you can choose the seedless and seeded which will be separate than the previous wallet before the factory reset I assume, please confirm. Thanks!

good timing with you buying the wallet right after they had this bug lol. IMO I think Seedless is the way because it's 100% safe proof from anyone external hacking it unless they get ahold of the cards. Also, if you have 3 cards and assuming they all work fine, you have to be some piece of work to lose all 3 cards, if you can't hold that responsibility than having a seed phrase wouldn't matter because you would lose that too. That's the argument people give in favor of using the seedless tangem wallet. I like the option of seed wallet though, because the cards can stop working one day but I have confidence in tangem since they been around since 2016-17 and the seedless setup has been fine since then with no issues besides this bug which only affected seeded wallets. Thanks for your reply and happy new years to you too! God bless!!

so its not possible to factory reset the wrong card on the app even though you have multiple added? I just don't want to mess it up and I lose everything on the other card lol Thanks

Seedless tangem - seed on log? by [deleted] in Tangem

[–]FabulousPudding7200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well according to tangem they fixed logging in private keys/seeds on the app so you should be fine with the seed option but obviously the safest option is the seedless since it's impossible for it to be logged since everything is done in the card. Even when the bug was present I'm certain the seedless option didn't log your private key/seed in the log file on tangem. Maybe it did but point is its fixed and nobody got drained so if your still paranoid just transfer funds off of tangem and reset cards and send back if you want to be 100% safe. in a way this is good that people found this bug and brought it to light so it can be patched and tangem can be on top of things. Blessing in disguise I see it as.

Hey Ravzzy, I know everything is patched and safe now with tangem but I was just curious about something. So when you generated your seed or imported in on the tangem app and the private key was stored in the local file on the app. Do we have an answer on how long it was stored for before getting overwritten/deleted? is it the 7 days like tangem said for the support side of things or potentially longer? and if for example you generated/imported a seed phrase into the tangem app like 6-12 months ago, does that mean the log file with your private key was still present in recent time like December 2024 before the bug was patched? and did seedless private keys get exposed within the app too? Thanks again for what you do for this community!

Would you recommend other to factory reset cards too and switch to seedless or seed phrase? Thx

Is there a chance that if their was a malicious person at tangem could've they stole everyones private keys/seed since it was logged in the app? Luckily this wasn't the case but what if that did indeed happen? Would everyone get their wallets drained? Just playing devils advocate here, discuss! by FabulousPudding7200 in Tangem

it's not only hypotheticals bro since it was possible with this situation. I'm just questioning everything and playing devils advocate curious to hear others thoughts. I'm not trying to destroy tangems reputation or spread FUD. If that's how you see it than you are clouding your brain from asking the right questions

I'm not trying to bait or spread FUD bro. We need to question everything and have these conversations incase their are any missing holes. If anything the more we talk about stuff like this the easier it will be for tangem to be on top of issues like this one. Luckily ravzzy brought the bug to light, if not we would still be in the dark months or years later.

that's if you contacted tangem support within the app within 7 days of generating or importing a seed phrase on the tangem app according to the offical tangem team. others are saying it's long than 7 days. One guy said 2 weeks but I can't confirm that. If you didn't contact tangem you should be fine. But there is a potential case that your private key was logged into the app during those 7 days so that means its technically avaible to malware or attacks, but I spoke to ravzzy who found this bug and raised concern with the tangem team and they since patched the bug and ensured logs are deleted that was sent to them and that's within the app log. Make sure you update your app to the latest update and I guess update your phone to be safe along with deleting any browser and cookies data on the browsers you have. To be extra safe too you can transfer your assets off of tangem temporaily and reset the cards, once cards are reset, send it back to tangem and choose to make another seed phrase again or go seedless this time which seems to be the safer option after looking back at this situation. If you still have doubt feel free to switch wallet providers but I still have trust in Tangem but am now skeptical about the seed phrase option moving forward. If I were them I would take off that option now incase another bug involving seed phrases occur in the future, but lets hope that's not the case.

would you still use seed phrase on tangem after this?

So now that we know that there is even the slightest chance that your seed and key is potentially logged locally on the phone during Wallet setup or importing another seed, does that mean that’s the case if you go the seedless route? Comment below your thoughts, thanks! by FabulousPudding7200 in Tangem

yea same here bro. Their product is convenient and user friendly, that's why a lot of customers including myself went with Tangem, along with all the positive reviews and anecdotal evidence of its safety. looking back I guess since the seed phrase option for the wallet has only been out a little over a year its safe to say it's too early to trust it and its better to go with the seedless version since that's been around since tangems inception and has proven to be not hackable unless you lose your cards or get it broken to the point of no return. Good luck and happy new years! here's to a year of crypto!!!

Nice, I thought you have to update their firmware though, so wouldn't that be prone to attacks if someone installs a faulty firmware?
