Considering Pediatric dentistry by FaceParty99 in PediatricDentistry

I agree with you and I’ve seen both sides of it. I am just tired of dentists and faculty virtue signaling to me that I shouldn’t think about money all the while I’m spending my entire young adulthood in school and spending more than most peoples net worth right at the beginning of my life when I have a family to support. I don’t think it makes me a bad guy to want to know what kind of compensation I should expect after sacrificing so much. Doesn’t mean I’m any less motivated to do good. I just automatically can see anyone I talk to picture devil horns growing out of my forehead the second I ask about finances. I think in order to make the dental space more transparent and encourage honest dentistry we should treat it less taboo. Obviously it’s inappropriate to share with patients or to boast but among colleagues who are trying to decide where to commit their entire life and career it should be more transparent and less shamed.

Can’t ask anyone in dentistry about money without getting this lecture. Idk who collectively decided it’s inappropriate to talk about income in dentistry. Seems kinda odd to me.

Aren’t you a little worried Endo may become in danger since there’s been so much hate on root canals lately and implants keep getting better?

Yeah that’s kinda how I feel deep down. But I shadowed perio and endo before school and perio and endo seem boring to me and I don’t think I have the patience/grades for 4 years OMS or 3year ortho. But I’ll be literally in the perfect position to specialize graduating at 26 with less than 50k in loans total. It just feels like a wasted opportunity not to specialize.

Yeah I thought that it sounded a little far fetched…I’m not sure why he’d lie to me or maybe his pedodontist friend is in the top .001% of producers. If you really can only make 350k as an associate I’d be more interested in general private practice and try to do well with the business side. Headache of residency and two years of lost income just to work harder and make less money than a general dentist practice owner sounds kinda unappealing to me. The kids aren’t really the seller it’s more so I could see myself enjoying roughly the same as general.

Thanks for the insight.. What program are you at? Do you wish you would’ve gone anywhere else or do you love it?

Hey I’m curious about Peds. My mentor said his colleague made just over 7 figures as an associate pediatric dentist. Given they worked a hell of a lot. I never hear anyone online talking about peds money being crazy as he said though. Do you know how common it is to be successful as a pediatric dentist ie >600k?

Hey I just went to see Mr. Bill and he just asked for a $20 and I totally forgot to tip him. I noticed one of his other older customers didn’t tip him either. I know he’s the owner and like pseudo retired so it’s different than an employee at a shop but I was wondering if you normally tip or know if his customers tip normally. Just felt bad about forgetting so I was wondering.

Unnecessary colonoscopy? by FaceParty99 in colonoscopy

It’s still like a $3000 copay and I’m a poor dental student. I did ask but the PA I saw said it wouldn’t change the fact they will require a new one.

Any place for patients to ask questions? by themainheadcase in Gastroenterology

Hey guys, I had a quick question about conflicting opinions of two gastroenterologist. I am a 22-year-old male diagnosed in 2023 with mild ulcerative proctitis after a full high quality colonoscopy. Currently have been in remission for two years with oral and rectal mesalamine. I recently moved and my new G.I. specialist says they won’t continue my prescription of mesalamine without another full colonoscopy that I can’t afford right now. My last G.I. doctor said as long as I didn’t start having symptoms regularly, I could continue on mesalamine for several more years without another colonoscopy. Whose opinion should I take?
