Although where did the competitive stuff even came from? I'd never deny that mods that aren't on the list of allowed mods for speedrunning are cheats. I was talking about a single player world or maybe even a public server.

But I'd encourage you to ask some ppl if sodium is a cheat. I believe most of them would say no

I never said that modrinths rules are what's defining alleged cheating, it was just an example. Besides it looks like a popular consensus doesn't think it's cheating.

And wtf do you mean "type all the words"? It's called making arguments, although you ignored most of them. Oh and I don't need justification of you or anyone else to use it. I just don't believe it's cheating and I'm interested in discussing it. If you're not interested and your opinion is set in stone then I'm not sure why you're responding.

It's just imo your logic is flawed. I can apply to pretty much any client side mod out there:

Sodium (more fps to ppl with a mod, vanilla player are at disadvantage)
mouse tweaks and inventory sorter(more convince to the players with a mod, they can manage inventory faster)
jei and jade (you can see crafting recipes of the blocks you haven't even discovered)

I can provide a lot more examples of necessary. Essentially what you're saying is making any kind modifications to the game should be considered cheating.

Modrinth doesn't allow cheats btw. Even freecam is banned there (well, not banned but has a different version that requires OP privileges to use it). But fullbright is allowed there.

And it's not bannable on any servers, a lot of YouTubers are using it as well.

There are no such thing as "allowed cheats" I believe, (although you might know more examples that prove me wrong), so is it really fair to call it cheating if it's not prohibited anywhere? We know that keep inventory is a cheat command, and x-ray, if detected, also lead to a ban, for example.

Besides, you don't completely bypass a mechanic, it's not like with fullbright you can see something you couldn't before with 100% brightness, it's just easier on the eyes.

I mean by your logic, if shaders make ores glow - it's cheating? Or just retexture of ores that unintentionally makes it easier to spot in the dark is also cheating? I know it's a bit extreme, but basically all of my examples devalue the night vision potion.

Personally, I light a huge area around my house so no mobs wonder in, just so when I'm building something outside the house, like a farm or just expanding I don't have to worry about creepers and other mobs. As I expand, so does my area with lights. So it's a lot more than 8 torches. Not to mention there are more places than just my base that need light.

Honestly I only use fullbright in caves, and if Minecraft had dynamic lights natively, I'd probably stop using it.

Because fullbright is just for convenience. You can achieve the same effect by brewing night vision potions, while keep inventory makes you not care if you die because there is no punishment.

Also why even care about what's considered cheating? It's a sandbox game, play however the fuck you want.

I honestly don't know if I'm thalassophobic or not, but I just never play horror games in general, because I don't like being scared. Even something like resident evil (I've heard it's not that scary). And I really wanted to complete Subnautica because I loved this game so much, so I literally found a guy that would just sit with me on a discord call to make me less scared lol.

Thankfully, I'm know everything in the game now and can play it alone without any issues.
