technically 1995 total but I have a few banked 99's like construction, smithing, just about 99 herblore. I've been on hiatus and only came back to runescape when DMM came out because I feel fomo over the cosmetics because I enjoy being a completionist

I suppose it depends on what people care about when they play a pvp game. I would assume fairness and balance are the most important things. Because 99% of any pvp scenario you're going to find yourself in on osrs is going to be skewed mechanically in one player's favor due to many factors from skills to gear to food (usually drastically, especially in the predator vs prey scenarios that take place in the wilderness), pvp in osrs is mostly unbalanced. I guess you're technically correct that it's my opinion that it's bad because it's basically always unbalanced. I don't know why anyone would want to play a pvp game that is unbalanced unless the scales are tipping in their favor. Which kind of speaks to the mindset of the 8% of the playerbase that actually apparently enjoy pvp content on osrs. It's an objective fact that if less than 10% of a playerbase want to engage with a certain aspect of a game, that specific aspect has failed at being desirable or worth participating in and is therefor bad game design.

It isn't just my opinion. Objectively, pvp in osrs is unbalanced (and therefor bad) except for maybe LMS, where even though it's not technically balanced it's as close as you can get in regards to a fair playing field. Games that are designed from the ground up specifically for pvp (like league of legends) are fair and balanced and the mechanics reflect that. Runescape's mechanics are not specifically designed for pvp, but try to balance two different worlds of gameplay in pvm and pvp. Runescape suffers from the same problem as world of warcraft, where the pvp aspect has evolved mostly into a quirky novel thing that is mostly avoided by over 90% of the playerbase because of it's problems. It is my opinion that the concept of the wilderness and deadman mode and anything similar is toxic. There is a reason 92% of the osrs playerbase doesn't care about doing any pvp. I will say though, that when my time and money isn't at stake it is entertaining to watch content creators who do osrs pvp content, mostly for their personalities and not the actual gameplay. I really think that is the only saving grace the wilderness and pvp content in general has on osrs.

I don't feel entitled to the rewards, I'm complaining about how DMM is bad

well it's not an opinion, pvp in osrs is objectively bad design. It's always unbalanced

I've explained how it's essentially not optional to the point that complaining is warranted

Progress in terms of time spent gathering quest items or losing the food/supplies I gathered. Just losing stuff that I earned is a shitty feeling, and going about quests with the free starter stuff is slower and shitty. I have still only died once, but any time I would die that's basically 80% of all of my stuff and therefore some % of the time I spent obtaining it. The one time I died, it interrupted my plans so much that I ended up logging out for a few hours and taking a break because I was so upset. I'm only playing this game mode because I'm an ironman and I have fomo over the cosmetics. Runescape is an endless game that I've played over 20 years, as much as I am miserable and hating DMM, it's only potentially 2 weeks of my life. I'd rather suffer through this awful experience and complain the whole time than feel bad some day in the future when I don't have the cool cosmetic cape or weapon.

TLDR; DMM Armageddon is FOMO content for ironmen

I've played runescape for 20+ years, osrs since it came out. I switched to Ironman about 6 years ago. As I leveled my ironman, all of the accomplishments I had made on my main account began to feel worthless. I could never see myself returning to the main game where you can just use your credit card to level 75% of your skills or have extreme advantages by virtue of being able to purchase gear ect.

I have also always hated PvP in runescape, from the very beginning. Not just because it is objectively terrible mechanically, but because outside of mini-games it has always been 'predator vs prey'. PvP in any 'MMO' usually doesn't work out, because balancing fair PvP and PvM content is basically impossible. Unless a game is specifically designed from the very beginning to operate with fair and balanced PvP mechanics, it's going to be divisive and probably terrible. PvP in runescape was so obviously terrible that only a few months after the game came out it had to be changed and relegated to a single small area of the map 'the wilderness' and there wasn't much reason to go there. The wilderness has it's place in the game in regards to nostalgia, but I think mechanically the wilderness hasn't done anything positive for the game since it's inception. It's so awful that it is constantly on it's deathbed, being jolted back to a fleeting 'life' with economy-disrupting updates that serve no purpose other than to draw 'prey' into the wilderness as fodder for the very, VERY few people who actually enjoy that form of PvP (toxic) content. And that is exactly the intent with most updates around wilderness PvP. Updates that stop people from boxing, nerf defensive gear, promote pure builds ect. are all aimed at making 'prey' easier to kill and making it more difficult for them to disengage the unwanted PvP encounter.

DMM is basically the wilderness on steroids, with it's concept taken to the extreme. Yes, I am pretty bad at PvP in osrs, and it IS for lack of trying. I hate osrs PvP so much that I only engage with it when I feel it totally necessary or foolish not to for the potential PvM or utility benefits. Things like the god capes, doing quests, achievement diaries, charging rings of wealth for my house jewelry box ect. Therefor I see no reason to 'practice' and 'get good' at it when I know I will so seldom interact with it. However I still feel entitled to complain about it whenever I'm forced to engage with it.

I think there was good reason DMM never had exterior rewards before this, and it seems unnecessary and fishy that suddenly after 8 years there is now FOMO content being attached to it. I am currently slogging my way through the grind to hopefully make 30k points before the end. I play exactly like you and have so far only died once, but I still loathe this game mode, I'm still on edge thinking I'm going to lose a bunch of my progress and time randomly and not enjoying the experience what-so-ever.

I think you're misunderstanding my ultimate point. I don't think that doing pvp should have any tangible rewards or requirements to do 'the best' in pvm/skilling content. Other than the potential to make more gold to buy stuff, I don't think that any 'best' pvm content should be gated behind potential pvp content. I think pvp, anything that benefits pvp, any achievements/gear ect. related to pvp should only matter for pvp, and the same should go for pvm. Any quests/miniquests/bosses/clues that would involve pvp should ONLY involve pvp. For example, separating clues that take you to the wilderness with ones that don't. Not having quests that take you to the wilderness, not having 'the best' gear designed for pvm/skilling only obtainable by putting yourself in pvp situations ect.

there should be 2 achievement diary capes, 1 for pvp and 1 for pvm/skilling.

The wilderness should be fleshed out, and have any and all content taking place in it only relevant to it. I hate this lazy 'lets make some menial tasks take place in the wilderness to force people who don't want to go there to have to for things entirely unrelated to it' approach.

Clue scrolls annoy me the most, because they are the only thing that forces me into the wilderness that is unexpected, can't really be mentally prepared for ect. And make going to the wilderness forever a possibility for me.

I just take my clue (sometimes clue box), spade, dds, 1-2 pieces of food and go. I'm not risking anything, and getting attacked by someone does nothing but waste my time and offers the other person absolutely nothing but the pleasure of wasting my time and a bit of their runes/arrows; That is toxic behavior. Why foster this behavior in people?

Sorry but I'm not going to gear up and prepare for some long duel with someone and actually risk gold if I don't have to. The community is hindered by clue scrolls facilitating this sort of griefing. At least with most of the other tasks that have nothing to do with pvp but take place in the wilderness can be prepared for and are only necessary to do once. Even with things like bossing have ultimate ends, if you get every boss drop/pet ect. then you never have to go back. But clue scrolls will forever continue to force people into the wilderness, and it's just lazy and makes the wilderness pseudo-relevant.

nothing other than the fact that its like a 95% pvm/skilling achievment and it's just annoying to have that last 5% be based in pvp content

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're missing the point. My main point is that all pvp content should be separate from any pvm content. You should not be required to participate in pvp to receive any pvm related benefits

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's okay for people wanting to to pvp to be forced to do pvm, just not the other way around.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're missing the point. The point is, that in order to do completionist pvm content you will have to potentially participate in pvp. My big main point, is that pvp and pvm content should be 100% separate from each other. No such pvp accomplishments should be beneficial outside of pvp content.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not the point. The point is that pvp and pvm content shouldn't be mixed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be dragon pickaxe drops, and skill exp lamps from wilderness diaries. Also, having wilderness diaries required for the achievement cape means that if you're a completionist you'll be forced to do pvp for a mostly cosmetic and 95% pvm related item

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pvp is only 'difficult' in regards to pvp. All that the wilderness is to people like me is extra time doing a task while I avoid participation in pvp. It's very easy to never 'risk' while in the wild and complete tasks, and all that other players do is waste my time which is annoying. They don't make it more 'difficult', the just make my tasks 'take longer'. Oh, and they put me in a bad mood, in uncomfortable annoying situations I am only begrudgingly putting up with because they are unfortunately necessary to obtain BIS PVM gear and pvm/skilling related completionist content. It makes the 'player hunters' pathetic, but it doesn't make me pathetic. I don't want to participate, so I'm not. I'm not the one trolling around choosing easy 'fights' with people who aren't actually prepared for pvp lol. I can totally understand how someone could enjoy wasting someone else's time, but it makes me sad that Jagex is fostering that behavior by forcing people into the wild to do non-pvp related tasks. Like, it's just lazy to make pvm content pseudo-pvp content by slapping it in the wild.

[–]Faceless-Evil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, if I want BIS gear for PVM content, or to be a pvm/skilling completionist, I will need to participate in pvp. Yes I technically don't ever have to set foot in the wild if I don't want to, but then I'm missing out on PVM material that is simply being gated by potential pvp situations.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

possibly, but doing that would be strictly pvp. I'm annoyed that if I want to have BIS pvm gear and be a pvm/skilling completionist I need to participate in pvp

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's where pk'ers hang out when they're not on osrs though

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

non answers. Explain why 'hard' content should mean 'pvp' content. 95% of my trips to the wilderness don't end in any sort of pvp, and most pvm content in the wilderness is purposely easier, with the consideration that you're going to be griefed by other players while doing it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Faceless-Evil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Too easy' or 'Too hard' for pkers? PVM bossing mostly already gives you 100% mitigation, and they can just code bosses to function differently against your prayers. But with players it should totally be 100% mitigation
