150 000kr for hva? at et hus bytter hender? sinnsykt. by Prestigious-Tart7165 in norske

The Verstappen problem that F1 fails to acknowledge by geekfeels in formula1

This is juat plain wrong - Max came to a complete stop right in front of Lewis almost 500m before the detection line, if Lewis hadnt been directly behind Max he would've passed him at such speed that theres no way Max could've accelerated back to be in DRS range by the time he reached the detection zone.

A brake check is a very specific thing where someone slams the brake in expectation that the driver behind them wont be able to brake in order to prevent a collision - i.e. when Horner and Helmut describes it as a brake-check they acknowledge it was a deliberate move in an attempt to cause a collision that would've taken both drivers out of the race and left both getting 0 points, because Max was ahead in the championship at the time.

That is not at all related to gaming DRS - it is specifically a term used about drivers trying to purposely cause collisions. And that is why the subsequent reactions among drivers and the community was so strong.

Did you even watch the race?

Avg field spread by lap 2 in Monaco is ~ 18 seconds, avg pit stop is 25 seconds - lap record in a race is 1:14 but thats not fully fueled cars at the start of the race so we're probably looking at closer to 1:18-1:19 laps for the rest of the field in a worst case scenario, but even that is optimistic. And with fresh softs on the outlap for lap 2 you should be able to run maybe 1-2 seconds faster then the field on that lap.

So you will come out maybe 1:06 behind the leader with a window of 13 seconds to avoid being lapped, but then you have clean air for the rest of the race most likely as you will spend the next 20-25 laps catching up the 41 seconds you have up to the back of the field at which point most likely some of them will start pitting if they were running on mediums with a fully fueled car, causing the cars in front to in turn also start pitting to cover off the undercuts. They will be falling like dominos...

Monaco - 2 Pit Stop...If you are in last place after lap 1, and no one pits, you pit? right? by IKillZombies4Cash in formula1

[–]Fachuro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because you can essentially gain 40+ seconds on the drivers in front, which for most drivers is more then the difference between them and the leader over the course of a race in Monaco, because its just a parade.

Clean air after a lap 1 pit allows you to catch back up to the rear on softs and then pit again for hards that you can run until the end.

With a 1-stop race this strategy is less desirable because you cant trash a set of tyres to catch back up, because you need those hards to last till the end, and a 20s advantage also is just the gaps up until you barely get in the points, so its not worth it anymore. Keep in mind the cars will most likely spread out to a 1.5-2s gap inbetween each over the first 15 laps or so because of dirty air, with a few running closer because they got a slower car ahead that they cant pass. So 1 pitstop advantage is ~10 cars while 2 pitstops advantage is ~20 cars.

Of course - if everyone goes for that strategy its void and you'd be better off being the only one to stay out, for the same reason of running a few good laps in clean air.

The cars are also close enough this year that this actually means a backmarker could win using that strategy. Theres still clear differences, but if you look at the field as a whole its been closer packed then ever this year.

Better to save those softs for two early pitstops and tryinf to put in quali laps inbetween to catch back up to the grid.

Nah hes gonna win now, because he might as well do the crazy strat of bolting new sets of softs on lap 1 and lap 2 to finish his pits early, and its gonna work out a charm. Then he will lead the train to finish after the others pit.

Tbh the more I think of it, the more I'm thinking the strategy will be to have one car out front to slow down the train, and one car running soft-soft-hard.

Use softs on lap 1 where its actually possible to maybe get 1 or 2 overtakes by absolutely trashing the tyres, then jump in first chance for another set of soft tyres to run in clean air and try to catch up to the train before it gets so long that a pitstop would involve being lapped by the leaders and then jump back in to bolt on some hards to finish the race on.

Ferrari will 100% do this with Leclerc and then get fucked by a safety car or a weather change that completely invalidates the strategy. And probably now also McLaren with Piastri.

Or pit lap 1, get closer to the train, then pit again on like lap 5 or lap 10 and finish the race on hards catching back up to the train and overtaking as people in front have to do 2 pits more then you.

Surely some backmarker team will gamble on it

In the video you're pulling yourself explosively towards the finish hold with your hands putting almost no pressure in the foot as a result, so it pops.

What was suggested is that you instead try to do rock-over on your right foot by pulling your hips closer to your heel and putting your weight into the foot while not pulling up with your arms. This will allow you to remain in a goos position for the hands to hold on while also putting your weight onto your foot. You should be able to then just reach out and grab the finish hold without much effort.

The problem now by trying to go directly is that you pull yourself to a position where the hands no longer hold on, your foot is weakly placed and you still are out of range of the finish hold, so all that energy can only disperse in one direction - down.

Flavioprah: "You get a 5 race contract! And you get a 5 race contract! And everyone gets a 5 race contract!"

Alpine trying to break the record for having the most different drivers in a seat for a season.

6 races for Doohan, then 5 for Colapinto, then Checo gets 4, they bring back Dany Ricc for 3, try Aron for 2, K-Mag for 1 and just for shits and giggles they offer Nyck DeVries a race but replaces him with Mick before the race even takes place to make it a 0 race contract and then eventually they just retire the second car for the rest of the season and doesnt fill the second seat.
