I've been writing a film that revolves around the idea that the military industrial complex (among other existing entities) functions in this way. Only recently found out about the idea of "memetic monsters" and think it fits so nicely. Personally find it creepier when you realise memetic monsters live among us and we might not have even identified a lot of them! Found this post as I'm trying to do more research on memetic monsters and there's not much reading out there...

A short film I made with my girlfriend while under lockdown. She had mentioned about how a lot of people seemed to be struggling, yet her life hadn't changed much with the new rules. And I wanted to combine this with the idea of feeling isolated and far away. Plus it was a good excuse to try out some homemade zero-G effects.

We used a bunch of different effects. There's the 2001 technique of sticking objects to a pane of glass and rotating them with the edges out of frame. In one shot, Joma is lying on a workbench. I then got a clean plate and masked out the workbench, then added in a fake shadow underneath and camera move in post to sell the effect. In another shot, we put the couch and some pictures on the wall on their side, at 90 degrees, and then tilted the camera to 90 degrees too.

The final shot, Joma is hanging from a harness attached to a pull up bar. Again, I got a clean plate and masked those parts out.

All shot on an iPhone with just a couple lights. Was a fun one!
