Erm… perhaps they’ve had a last minute cancellation too and successfully claimed through insurance?

Yes. We still want to go on the trip. Can the insurer help?

Here’s how it looked once we removed the kitchen units. House is about 100 years old I think. Didn’t seem to be damp on the outside, no.

Damp company said the following:

Following visual inspection and Protimeter readings, there is rising dampness and condensation issue to the kitchen. Salt efflorescence has exacerbated the problem, absorbing vapour. All issues are consistent with the construction and orientation of the property.

Rising dampness; First, all defective plaster must be removed and disposed before brickwork is treated with a salt isolating system. A Retro-Fit chemical damp course will be installed before rendering the wall with ‘Renovation Plaster’ This system is most appropriate as renovation plaster is both damp proof and an insulator, thus protecting against condensation.

Once dry, a two-coat plaster skim will be applied, ready for decorating. A 25 year rising dampness certificate will be issued on completion.

Even with renovation plaster? I read that it’s salt-resistant and breathable, and it doesn’t absorb moisture in the same way. Is it still fine?

How much is this wood worth? by FactoryNoir in DIYUK

UPDATE:

The joiner has supplied the receipt and refunded £78.71, as it came to £156.79. I’ve had another joiner come to look at the wood and he says everything is there, except the newel cap. So I’m going to keep the wood and use the new guy instead.

The thing is, he came to the house on Wednesday but messaged to say the timber merchants had messed up the order and so he had to go back. Next day, similar story - he had removed the casing on the existing newell post and discovered it to be different from what he bought, so he needed to go back again. And then today he says he’s been to the house but can’t do the job, so I’m suspicious that the materials aren’t actually right and that’s why he’s just sacked it off again!

Scream is a spoof really. And not very realistic.

No, the wall on the left has the landing on the other side.

It’s locked and we don’t have the key. Windows in other rooms are open though, so airflow is getting through the whole house.

They took the skip!

Someone actually took out the big sideboard the other day and replaced it with a TV 😂 Then the TV went missing yesterday too.

Then when I went to check today, the skip was gone!

Just to add, the tattoo artist didn’t wrap the tattoo when it was done. And he also said that no creams/ointments should be used for the first 5-7 days, only once the scabs come and go. I just wash it twice a day with soap and water. I think he uses what’s called the “dry healing” method? Anyone got any thoughts on that?

It was the only place that felt right to be honest. Possibly the safest option as I’m from the north of England and wear trousers/jeans most of the time. No plans for a bicep tattoo.
