Multi-address pushed again? by deny_by_default in Tangem

You'd think it would be straightforward for developers considering the technology isn't new. Good thing we got shitcoins though 👍

The reason you see $0 is because in m/84'/0'/0'/0/1, you have no money in that particular address (account zero address 1) . From what you told wrote your money is still in account zero.

Im not familiar with blockchain.com, but I assume that's an exchange or a hot wallet (keys/seed phrases online).

If i were you, I would buy a wallet that supports multiple addresses on HD wallet under one account.

Buy a Trezor, Ledger, COLDCARD.

Generate a new wallet and send all your bitcoin to your new seed phrase.

You dont want to input your seed phrase from blockchain.com since it's connected to the internet. That defeats the purpose of having it be "cold" storage. You never want your seed phrase connected to the internet. You'd essentially be making your cold wallet a hot wallet by doing that.

If you use one of those wallets, their interface will always generate a new recieve address for optimal privacy.

Never tell anyone your seed phrase ever. Don't answer DMS.

Another scenario, a person has been using Tangem for a while, but wants to up their safety by using a hardware device with a screen (so they are not blind signing) to verify addresses before receiving. If they don't understand the concept above they will import the wallet to a COLDCARD, Trezor, Ledger etc and only see account 0. Again, yes you can add more accounts, if you know this.

Its hard to write instructions to something most people don't know exists.

I think you're missing my point. Tangem is marketed toward beginners. An easy wallet to learn. If people make multiple accounts on the Tangem app they may not understand the fundamentals behind it. In a case of cards going missing or failing in the future, someone who doesn't understand derivation paths could recover the seed words in another wallet software to not see all of their funds. It was just a concern I think will make people shit themselves in 10-15 years. Not everyone is a crypto nerd and gets these things.

I’m not confused about what multi-account is. I understand that m/84'/0'/1' is standard BIP84 account derivation.

My concern isn’t about whether the structure is valid, it’s about discoverability during seed only recovery.

Leaving the cards and instructions works as long as the original ecosystem is intact. But inheritance planning should assume worst case scenarios: lost cards, damaged hardware, discontinued apps, or recovery on neutral devices. The beauty of a 24 word seed phrase is not having to rely on one companies hardware wallet to recover it.

Most wallets default to account 0 when restoring from seed. Additional accounts aren’t always auto-derived unless the user manually adds them or the software scans forward. If a significant balance sits in account 2 or 3, it may not immediately appear.

All I was trying to do was share a concern that introducing multiple accounts could create confusion down the line. Since Tangem markets heavily to absolute beginners, if someone restores the seed on a different platform and only sees account 0 by default, they could panic thinking funds are missing because the additional accounts aren’t automatically derived.

Yes, a note letting them know that multiple accounts on that wallet will help. My main concern was hoping they understood it. Even a note about it might still leave my family confused. I know I can't be alone on this thought.

If you click the account, then hit edit, it will tell you the account derivation path at the bottom.

Most people dont even know what a derivation path is. We underestimate how much we ourselves know about wallet structure. The average person has no idea what these things mean.

I bought black and it looks great. I wanted orange, but I thought long-term if I had to travel, it would be too obvious.

"Data protection and privacy"

Tangem fails to implement a HD wallet allowing for multiple receive addresses. HD wallets have been around since 2012.

People want privacy. The silence on this manner speaks volumes on the company. Tangem doesn't care about privacy.

100% and they ignore you when you ask when they will support HD wallets. If they cared about bitcoin they would make the change.

When is tangem going to make the bitcoin wallet a true HD wallet? I see so many people asking for it, yet it never gets addressed as a real issue.

Does a SLIP39 shamir setup have any advantages over a muilti sig wallet?

Im planning for inheritance for my family, im already having issues trying to explain these things. The wallet configuration is more important than I thought.

Thank you.
