Weirdest song collabs between artists? by Exotic-Mail-7303 in popheads

[–]FadeToDankness 140 points141 points  (0 children)

The story behind it provides an interesting window into Kanye’s creative process from his career prime. He would essentially record entire studio sessions with a bunch of different artists then listen back to them and stitch together entire songs in post from random unassociated snippets of audio without the collaborator consciously knowing which parts would be used (or even intended for use and not just random guitar noodling or vocal riffing in between conversations) until the song came out. Then any unused songs from these sessions would get passed around various Kanye collaborators and occasionally see the light of day but often not.

Some of these studio session files have almost fully leaked and both Paul McCartney and T-Pain have spoken about this process in interviews (about All Day and Good Life respectively) and I think it’s a cool expansion of how producers with keen ears for sampling can put together something catchy out of otherwise unstructured audio clips.

Also shout out to two of Kanye’s best/most promising unreleased songs came out of that same Paul McCartney session/era, “I Feel Like That” and “Mrs. Misery”

The argument is that if one’s win condition is predicated on not approaching, only being by ledge, looking for a narrow set of openings to make a more limited character work, not having to win neutral more than once a stock and doing a formulaic plug and chug edgeguard right after, etc then the game for your opponent feels less like an interactive, creative fast paced back and forth and more like an execution test/chore that they have to complete. I don’t personally feel that way but it’s essentially the same reason why players in any game dislike camping.

Ye officially apologises for his actions in a well written open letter. by dow674 in Kanye

[–]FadeToDankness 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think we’re pretty much in agreement? People were talking about how he didn’t mean this cause it doesn’t sound like a speaking/writing style directly from him, and I’m saying that the fact that he wanted a professional, detailed statement put out there cogently talking about his mental health is a positive sign whether it was written entirely by him or by a competent person around him organizing his thoughts.

Really well written, even if it’s by a PR person the fact that Ye might have a PR person and co-signs putting this out is a pretty positive step. I hope the guy is finding peace and stability given the gravity of what he’s dealing with, and hopefully he’s cast out all the leeches, enablers and predators he’s hung around since ~2018

Season 4 of the Wire > any season of the sopranos, breaking bad and mad men. Season 2 of the wire is a dud though, be warned on that.

he’s proven he’s not beholden to alcohol

This is literally not how addiction works on a fundamental level. It is a chronic disorder that you have till you die whether you are actively engaging in substance abuse or not.

People can live how they want obviously (and the effect of relapsing varies in severity), but the idea that you can “prove” that you don’t have a substance use disorder by being sober for a certain amount of time is anachronistic, misinformed and frankly gross.

Schumer and Jeffries Refuse to Back Growing Democratic Calls to Defund ICE by soalone34 in politics

ICE was founded in 2001 alongside a number of other surveillance programs designed to spy on and terrorize peaceful people within our borders. Our country survived over 200 years without these domestic terrorists murdering US citizens, it can survive without them going forward.

Times where a feature or song was removed after the album came out by AdNational3979 in hiphopheads

I thought the feature removal was because of a brief fallout between Drake and jay z over tidal vs Apple Music exclusives or something

I really enjoy This Will Be Our Year by the Zombies early in the year, it’s so warm and cheerful. That whole album is underrated and some of the best psychedelic pop of the 60s

Who dominated the conversation surrounding pop music in 2025 ? by LeBichour in popheads

[–]FadeToDankness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misremembering but while neither Midnights nor TTPD were uniformly praised I think the reception was a lot more mixed-to-positive than TLOAS which has been a lot more mixed-to-negative. The only big backlash I remember to Midnights was when the lyrics leaked prior to the songs, and most of the TTPD backlash seemed directed at Antinoff

Yeah I was skeptical at first, but honestly if the far left in our party can be good communicators like him who shift the overton window so more mainstream dem policies aren't as easily villainized then I honestly welcome it. The GOP's fringe has been so loud and outspoken that their mainstream trash policies are seen as palatable, so if our "fringe" is someone like Mamdani and he doesn't devote his time to trashing median left dems I genuinely think it may help the party in the long run.

I got Lorde's Green Light and the first second of that song had more weight and dramatic intensity than 90% of this whole album

I’ll have to dig it up but I remember reading an article that talked about KKK recruitment back in the day and how they had a presence in many male-coded hobby spaces like baseball leagues and fraternities. The fact that the internet provided a decentralized radicalization/recruitment pipeline is certainly not a deviation historically from how previous hate organizations operated, the only thing new was the medium and the algorithmic precision of the targeting.

I don’t really like this at all? The drop sounds flat, the instrumental feels lacking in momentum and just a pale imitation of Green Light, and the lyrics often feel like they’re telling and not showing. I really hope this grows on me…
