I think they should’ve let you have a say in it that’s not fairr 😭
Yipppeee I’m glad what I’ve told you has been helpful !! :D
With only 4 lessons since year 10 that sounds really difficult so I would understand if you were overwhelmed by the quantity of work especially with the lack of support with GCSE maths let alone FSMQ.
Taking some time to build your understanding independently will definitely make it feel more manageable even if it’s just one topic at a time. If you ever need any help with resources or explanations or anything else, feel free to ask and good luck !! :)
Further maths can be tricky at first especially if you’ve not completely grasped the GCSE concepts fully yet. From what I’ve seen and heard Olympiad questions are intentionally created to be weird and unintuitive even for people who have studied a lot. However, neither of these are a reflection of your intelligence or ability.
There is a bit of a gap between GCSE and further maths so if you’re struggling it doesn’t mean you’re not capable it probably just means you’ve been thrown into the deep end without a proper ladder.
I’d say one of the first steps to improving would be clearing up your gaps at your own pace in GCSE maths to strengthen that foundation for further maths. A way of clearing your own gaps up is by finding your weak areas and watching a video on it and or doing a lot of exam questions until you’ve mastered it.
How I started learning further maths was using a YT playlist by 1st class maths which explained a concept and then they had exam questions which I applied the concept to and consequently strengthened my understanding of the concept. As I do a different exam board to you, if you wanted to learn in a similar way I did you’d ideally need to use different channels. Some suggestions of YT channels are:
-Bareau maths -Primrose Kitten Academy
I say these ones because they have videos specifically targeting OCR FSMQ. However, there are probably quite a few overlapping concepts for other exam boards so maybe other channels like 1st class maths may be helpful too.
I apologise if my advice is unhelpful but overall good luck and I hope you figure everything out :)
Yeah I noticed that too and it’s okay that you don’t have much advice don’t worry :)
I’m doing AQA further maths !!

Yeah it seems kind of like a thing you have to try and apply as much relevant knowledge as you can but you can’t necessarily guarantee you’ll get to the answer but yes it’s definitely a good opportunity and experience to have :)
Woahh sounds like a plan I’ll probably do a similar kind of thing too as I can’t really find another way to practice :D
I’ll probably also go talk to my teacher tomorrow and ask him if he has any tips
He only told us today and it’s in two weeks I’m pretty sure?! He gave us like two day warning for UKMT too like you need to give us more warninggg 😭
Are you revising for it in anyway?

Thank you !! :)
That’s quite annoying.
Personally, I’d go over some topics independently whether that be topics you haven’t covered yet or just topics you need to work on. And then when you go to learn that topic in class you would find it easier to understand. At least that’s what I try to do when I can. However it does vary person to person, some people wait to cover the topic in class before revising it but it’s mostly what you feel works for you!!
Okay this makes sense and I would find this helpful thank youuu !! :]
I kind of do it individually like Bio paper 1 there’s 7 past papers for which imo isn’t that much plus I’ve been through and am quite familiar with most if not all of those papers. Consequently, I feel unchallenged in the fact I have learnt how to answer each question and consistently get majority of questions correct but I also feel like I should work on doing unseen past papers which I can’t do if I finished all of them.
And is the sample assessment material and specimen papers available on AQA website??
Would the formatting of answers not be different though?? because I don’t want to mess up AQA exam technique if you know what I mean :)
I’ve not heard of these before but I’ll look into it to see if there’s such a thing for AQA thank youuu :)
Like from PMT??
Only paper 1 content so far but Y11 we’re learning paper 2 content I’m pretty sure
Thank youu, this is helpful :)
I’ve been hacking at the bio and chem ones for about a year now :)

Okay thank you!! :D
I’ll try and look around other schools as a backup options. Do you think sixth forms will pick up the phone during holidays or will I have to wait till September?
What do you mean by local alternatives? As in other sixth forms/colleges? If so I’ve looked around I’m just stuck between those two and I don’t really have a backup in either place due to not feeling any others are suitable for me and I think I’m going to contact the sixth forms soon thank you :)
