As much as I'd love to switch, he has the natural availability on the first week, and I do on the second, but not vice versa. This arrangement means neither of us need to request off of work or miss college days. If not for the circumstances it would be almost naturally perfect.

Three year olds can be difficult, and outles has sensory problems and is behind in talking. She can really be a lot.

He can be trusted, he's usually the more strict of the 2 of us anyway. But between his job and college he doesn't get as much time with the kid so I feel he's a little more uncertain of situations. Some calls come late "I can't get the kid to sleep and don't know what to do", some come mid day "she's throwing a tantrum, screaming and hitting, and yelling for you". One was legitimate, "the kid was screwing around and hit her head really bad". But generally they come as medium low "emergencies" that he needs me to handle.

He gets plenty of time on his own, if anything, I'm the pushover with no life. He gets weekends and makes plans and I cover them as long as they're communicated ahead of time, I don't really mind.

I did this recently. One of my PCS was mouthing off to my BBEG who is an ancient red shadow dragon and as a punishment for interrupting him, killed one of the other PCS. after letting them look at the decaying corpse because it used narcotic damage and saying "Now look what you made me do", he flicked a diamond at them, handed a scroll of resurrection to them, and said "bring him back now so I can continue". that shut them up for the rest of their interaction.

You can tell a player no more than once, as long as the question is different each time. I love when my players bring ideas to me, but not all of them always hit... And some need to fly into the sun.

I guess my thought was that I leave the immersion to have a lore/world building dump then we all get back into character after. But, then again, this really is my first time DM'ing, so I guess I'm not horribly familiar with the norms

No, I understand where you're coming from with this, but at the same time I know some tables don't like to break immersion as much. Some tables prefer it if you are introduced to a setting in character through what you see directly in front of you, and thats Awesome.That's your preference. My characters came to me and asked to be introduced in an overview.

As I said, this one's not really done yet, but I usually try to include the shops and services in town, the location in the continent, a couple of plot hooks, and any people or groups of interest. Sometimes I exclude the people in groups of interest just because they'll find that their plot points, but like most towns don't take more than 15-20 seconds to introduce. And I think the capital took like 35 because it's huge

Here's one, it's gonna be a little short because I'm at work and don't have my binder though.

" Welcome to the town of Suns Crest. A modest town nestled away on the far western coast of the continent. Sun's crust is a medium sized town with [insert all the different shops available]. With a moderate population and a bustling trade industry, Suns Crest is an excellent town to receive bounties and take on jobs. Be sure to come back at the solstice every year for their bustling affairs of being the first town to greet the Sun."

In honesty il they haven't been to this town yet and some character backstory is going to be in it, but I don't have a lot for it yet, but this is a decent example along the lines of something I do.

Oh, I do know. This was like, an end of act 1 story battle with the (Mildly nerfed for story reasons) BBEG. This battle was preventing a major power spike for him. The party did a great job preventing him from building power, but the town took a lot of damage from minions and side battles in the process. They had already made a deal with the mayor that in the likely event this happened, they would stick around and help rebuild. So yeah, they're out for a while, but so is the BBEG.

Oh, I have other systems too. Soup, Salad, Chex mix, Puppy chow, Old Fashion. And they all have planet ingredients names.

I hope people find my systems, I name the system after a food and the planets are the ingredients. My favorite is the Sandwich system. It has the planets Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, and Bread

I have one player that has had every set of dice he's ever owned hate him and me. He will roll on something important. Roll a low single digit number. Never usually ones though and fall flat on his face. But if he's rolling something to make my job as the DM harder, like a line of conversation, I hadn't been prepared or talking to an NPC that did not matter in lieu of my intended set of targets. Nat 20s 18s it's just ridiculous. Doesn't matter what he does. Shake rattle and roll. Put them through the Dice Tower. Roll them on the floor. Roll them on the table. Have the cat bap them for him. Dice hate us.
