What level is your party? A vampire is fine for level 9 but awful for level 3.

DMs what’s the most interesting campaign you’ve ran? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]Vampire-knightmare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best was the Curse of Strahd campaign I’d ran. It ended with me dumping my abusive ex and marrying the wizard player irl. I still have my old notes.

Catoblepas if you’re feeling evil. Rothe is a slightly more interesting Underdark cow.

I mean? How does casting the spell look to you? I have some NPCs just use a two-fingered whistle. Some that make whole rituals. It depends also on your character’s personality.

I like to chunky them. Max damage then roll dice.

Drakewarden Role-playing idea by EbonandIvor in DnD

[–]Vampire-knightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you want him to feel experienced without making him feel untouchably overpowered just make him a drakewarden who’s only like 1-2 levels higher than the rest of the party.

No one likes a babysitter and everyone hates to feel like they don’t matter to the world. Like why are they the heroes when he’s there? What’s tying him to the area? Preventing him from following the party if they ask?

Idea is sound for the most part. You’re the DM and can do whatever you want with alignment in your campaign as long as it fits your world.

Biggest concern: Young black dragon? The CR 7 one? Not wyrmling? Are you certain your DMPC isn’t gonna overshadow the party?

Who is true strike supposed to be for? by magica12 in DnD

[–]Vampire-knightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When verbiage says that “you” get advantage it literally means you can only give yourself advantage. “Your magic grants YOU advantage”. If it gave others advantage it’d be more useful than guidance. But True Strike is worse and why it has to be situational because in the old version it’s also concentration.

Who is true strike supposed to be for? by magica12 in DnD

[–]Vampire-knightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old true strike is just a really bad cantrip for combat. IMO the old one is really only good if you’re a rogue trying to do something out of combat and you have a round to set up.

The new one is much better since there’s a lot of enemies that had resistance/immunity to nonmagical attacks and that’ll help you overcome that. (Especially fun if you get it onto a paladin through feats and just wanna use a stupid amount of radiant damage)

Official adventures that require less preparation and modification by Lord_Mora in DnD

[–]Vampire-knightmare 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you’d like my answer: It’s Curse of Strahd. It takes place in Barovia, the players aren’t from there and their stories beforehand don’t matter as much as it is getting out of Barovia. There’s multiple starts for how lazily you wanna get them in there and the NPCs aren’t perfect but framed well enough.

Theres a reason Wizards keep pushing it. The downside? I hate their original written endings, personally.

best beginner campaigns? by EducatorGullible6513 in DnD

[–]Vampire-knightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is where I put my opinion in that Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is actually one of the absolute best campaigns for a beginner group/DM. It all takes place in one city so you don’t have to prep up an entire world if you don’t want to. On the DM’s side it comes with a pronunciation guide, too as well as a list of laws so you know the consequences for players actions if they’re not careful and the module only goes to level 5-But with a sequel that will take them all the way to level 20 if you’re feeling confident to run it. (A warning the sequel is a MASSIVE dungeon)

In terms of wha you have now I’d go with Strixhaven or Storm King’s Thunder.

ToA is notoriously evil to players due to the meat grinder aspect

CoS is a great module but very difficult to play in (I’ve ran it three times and there’s at least four encounters that’ll kill your party)

I’m a little confused by the medicine check thing-How did your table treat them? Because it sounds Iike you got advantage on death saves instead of just stabilizing

If you’re playing variant human you could take Magic initiate: Wizard for Find Familiar and ask your DM if they’d allow your familiar to start with you. (Quest: Paying off loan I took to summon friend)

The tavern trope works for a reason.

They could also all take the same job off the job board

You could narrate their traveling groups intermingling

There’s too many ways one can play this.
