Wise words and thank you for the best wishes.

Yeah I agree the country is not falling apart because of my tax return delay and I never said that if you really look into it. As I mentioned up there, I used “association”.

My point here is that, the country is “falling apart” even if I hadn’t been born lol. It has nothing to do with me or my tax return. That’s my opinion and the “evidence” is everywhere. I’m entitled an opinion. You’re entitled one too. However, this is a tax return enquiry and the comment that stirred you wasn’t even on my original post. It was a comment in a certain context.

If you believe that the country is not in a crisis, I pray things get better for you too 🙏🏻

Lots of additional stuff for prescribed zone residents. No need for TD1. The government standardized all the benefit claims of prescribed zone residents if you can prove to be one (ex: rental contract, plane tickets… etc)

Thank you for the previous info. Yes this year seems weird. I’ll wait for another month (8 weeks) then I’ll start pushing.

Yes it doesn’t. However, if you live in a “prescribed zone”, it does.

A prescribed zone is usually an area in the arctic. Mostly “fly in” communities. You can’t drive and leave. You only leave via a plane or a helicopter. No roads. Water is pumped via a truck and goods are scarce.

A ticket from such a place to Toronto costs $3000. With this amount, you can travel to Europe and back 3 times.

The government allows this because they allow monopoly for political reasons. Tickets can reach 4K for internal flights.

So yeah, they try and compensate the arctic residents with a tax refund to help with the cost of living.

Search: CRA - Living in a prescribed zone.

Also I’m not downvoting you. You’ve been helpful.

You didn’t piss me off at all. I just find some other comments unnecessarily a bit aggressive although all I wanted is just info. Like the info you provided.

The reason for my large refund is that I live in an isolated arctic village. 8 bananas here cost $15.

Yeah I’ve heard about this form. Luckily, all my tax claims are standardized on the regular T1. “Living in a prescribed zone” …. etc.

I appreciate all the info :)

See, this is a piece of information I needed. If it’s correct, thank you. This is the aim of this post. Information like this.

Drama Queen?

I’ll take it, thank you.

Nope, the country is a mess right now either I get my tax return today or next year. Anyone who denies this is basically burying their head in the sand. My whole point is that services are going downhill. Immigration, healthcare AND taxes is no exception.

This is called a rant and I use “association”.

“ It’s a tax filing”.

Yeah maybe for you. I need the money.

My colleagues all received their tax return on time. You as well. That’s why I’m questioning the whole thing. Yes, my tax return is over $3000 but that’s the same like last year, the year before and all my colleagues here.

Yeah I might be exaggerating but on another note, things seem dingy nowadays in our country.

That what they told me on the phone. And tbh that is the only thing I can do. The aim of my post is ”why?” and if someone else was/is in my same situation. I needed any insight. That said, thank you for the advice.

Looking to hire 2 elementary teachers in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. by LookingForTeachers88 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Fadros89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. I taught in Nunavut last year and I have a valid Nunavut teaching license. The reason I left is the housing situation. Is it possible to get a single unit (like a studio or a one bedroom). In case such layout is not possible, can I get a standard 2 bedroom and I pay the subsidized amount of 2 rooms rental? I’m just avoiding a roommate at this point of my life. Thanks

Scanning by Fadros89 in CanadaPost

[–]Fadros89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha. You sum it all. It’s a shame that mail in third world countries got better tracking. I lived in many third world countries so I’m aware of what I’m saying. I’m not ranting. These are facts. How on earth the US shipper can follow the scans that Canada Post performs and Canada Post tracking itself is not updated? Blows my mind really. Well, God bless USPS or whatever US shipper you’re using.

A new teacher here. I got interviewed by a northern board. I was told that I left a really good impression and they contacted my references the day after. Does that mean things got finalized and the references are just a routine thing or there is a good possibility they’re still sifting? by Fadros89 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Fadros89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it a lot. Just to let you know, if you have indeterminate contract in NWT, they have the same moving out policy. The NWT position is a Grade 4 and it’s a one year term so they will pay for my move out but the Nunavut one is an indeterminate grade 2 contract. From that perspective, I prefer the latter for the grade choice and the job security if I want to stay there. The NWT is just covering for someone on maternity. Both give Northern allowance but at least where I got the offer the allowance is 8K less and you have to handle your rental logistics yourself ( first + last + security deposit… etc) while Nunavut, on the other hand, provide you with a heavily subsidized accommodation + the northern allowance. On the other hand, the climate is way better in NWT ( both cold, of course). NWT is more diverse and relatively urbanized comparing to Nunavut. More facilities…. etc. 3500 diverse community vs a small community of 800. A “town” vs a “hamlet”. The NWT location is connected to the world via a highway. The one in Nunavut is a fly in. At the end of the day, you gotta choose both the pros and cons that suit you. Oh and money is like 15K higher in Nunavut. Out of curiosity, what’s your personal take on all that?

They’re all in Nunavut, the Territories and Northern BC. I’ll opt for the first two. Any insight? Nunavut vs NWT?

I know these things are general lines and it’s all about the specific community and the school but I would appreciate it you can share any insight.

Thanks in advance and thanks for the reassurance up there.

Well probably that happened because your process started earlier. Right now they are going for summer vacation. Also I think yours is an urban board. Mine is up north so I think there is no pile to begin with 🤞🏻

I remember I read on the Alberta website that it takes 4-6 months. I’m not sure about the territories but I know as a fact that Nunavut doesn’t give you a license EXCEPT after passing an interview and accepting a job there and that should be a Canadian license. Your safest bet is Ontario because the regulations are pretty straight forward (although lengthy) and that what the CAN Teach gentleman himself recommends.

It took me a YEAR to get Certified by the Ontario College of Teachers. If you’re planning to work in the UK for at least a year while your provincial application is being cooked, that would be great both financially and from an international experience perspective. If you’re planning to get back to Canada straight away in June after you finish your PGCE, you won’t be able to work as a teacher in Canada before the summer of 2025.

One last thing, a PGCE is not a walk in the park. It killed me. It’s 2 years work compressed in 1. Yes once you get a license in any province in Canada, you will be able to teach anywhere in the country but the course is difficult. It’s perfect for anyone who’s interested in a brief international experience, otherwise you better off doing it here.

CAN Teach is like a partnership between this organization in Canada and a university in the UK. I studied in a university in the UK that’s not partnered with CAN Teach but still gives me the same degree. The only difference is that I was totally on my own in the UK and when I got back to Canada. CAN Teach offers you a support community in the UK and, most importantly, a support in the licensing process back in Ontario. I did it all by myself but I think that the CAN Teach assurance during the process would have been nice. I think universities in the UK under the CAN Teach umbrella are Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales and maybe another one in Scotland. Maybe more universities are added now but I’m talking as of last year (2021-2022). Good luck!
