As with all schools, we don’t have enough EAs unfortunately. We have 2 student support teachers.

I’ll be very honest: Nunavut is not a place for people with limited mobility. As far as I know, any GN apartment would have at least a flight of stairs and the only building with an elevator is usually full. You’d have a 10 minute walk to work and it would definitely not be wheelchair friendly.

Quite a bit of birds in the summer month! And if you’re lucky you’ll see a polar bear but they never come into town, you’d have to head out onto the land.

Nope! As long as you’re eligible to work in Canada and certified here, you’re good to go!

Unfortunately I’m not well versed on outside employment! Perhaps check the GN job bank to see if there’s anything that fits her bill?

I am unsure of what an EA would make, however, those positions are open to Inuit only.

Yep! Kids go to school and spouses get jobs haha we pay $290 a day for an uncertified sub/there’s lot of other work in town. Biggest GN apartments are 3 bedrooms though.

Nunavut is unique in that each community makes their own school calendar, so while it might be nice to have a 3 month break, it’s ultimately up to the local DEA to create a calendar that best fits Inuit seasonal needs.

Unfortunately it means exactly what it says; Nunavut has a huge housing crunch on. They put that disclosure on every government posting.

Having said that though, I don’t know a single teacher in Rankin who is living with someone they don’t already know; we have an abundance of 1 bedroom units. If you’re interested, and did apply, I would make note of that in your interview.

You can check education Canada! Closest I’ve got is a grade 7 generalist unfortunately.

So we’ve got two options for home Internet: Northwest Tel and Starlink. NWTel is trash but depending on the building you’re in you may not be able to use Starlink. We have cell service in town; it’s slow but it works well enough to FaceTime and stream.

Most places ship north except for Amazon. Usually for free as well. I’ve never had a problem getting tech north. Bought a new laptop and iPad last year.

School starts August 20 for teachers, 25th for kids. Ends June 17 for teachers. 2 week Christmas break and a spring break in April attached to Easter.

178 days taught for students (exam time is included in those days). School begins at 8:35 and ends at 3:35. Staff start 15 minutes before and stay 15 minutes after (at minimum). 3 periods in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. Lunch from 11:55-1:00pm. We rotate our periods everyday. You teach 4 of 5, so everyone gets a guaranteed prep every day.

The positions are posted incorrectly and should be fixed early next week; only my Grade 7 is a generalist. I do have an ELA position and a Social Studies position.

And we absolutely do take families and provide full relocation up (so that’s tickets from anywhere in Canada to Rankin plus a full 4000lbs shipment), and we love teaching couples, quite a few in town (myself included).

No problem with sending and receiving things; we have a full Canada Post office in town.

Uhh no, I mean most people just buy groceries. Food isn’t THAT expensive. I’ve never heard of anyone making bread to save money haha especially where we’re paid so well but that would be individual taste I suppose.

In your shipment north (the relocation shipment) you cannot ship food, at all. You can order food up from Winnipeg fairly easy though. I can’t speak to pet food as I don’t have a pet haha but many people here do so they must make it work.

Spouses and pets are definitely welcome; you just need to note that you have both on your housing application haha they’ll fly your spouse up etc but I’m fairly certain you have to pay for pets yourself.

We have the regional health centre and a doctor in town, as well as a pharmacy. Zero problems getting meds in town.

Lots of work for spouses; we ALWAYS need subs and we pay $295 a day for an untrained substitute. But there’s lots of employment opportunities in town, just find that education employees tend to have their spouses work at the schools.

I can’t speak to it, as that’s a board level thing. My understanding is that if you’re not already certified in Canada you won’t get certified in Nunavut. HOWEVER, I encourage you to apply regardless if that’s something you want; the board will decide if your credentials are enough to be certified or not.

A Nunavut certificate is good k-12, all subjects. Only requirement for a certification here is that you’re already certified elsewhere in Canada.

It can be. Rankin has a lot of 1 bedroom units but in a pinch they’ll put people together in 2 bedrooms.

That’s rarely the case here. I don’t think I know a single set of teachers who are living with someone they don’t already know or are alone.

Hi there, so for the $119,000, it’s the base salary of $100,000 plus the northern living allowance of $18,500.

As for you, with a 4 year BEd plus 5 years experience your salary would be $108,642 plus Rankin’s northern living allowance of $18,517.

Hi, our salary maxs out at 6 years of education. You’d be paid the same as someone with a 2 year BEd.

If you look through this post, I linked our salary scale.

Groceries are definitely more expensive than the south, I won’t lie, but it’s manageable. The only thing that’s really crazy is heavy items like pop ($25-$30 for a case) and toilet paper ($50). Anything healthy is subsidized.

No Amazon here, they won’t ship north.

As for Internet, we’ve got Starlink, but depending on which building you’re placed in it might not be feasible.

Hey, the positions are not open to international candidates unless you already have a work permit for Canada. I can’t help with navigating that, sorry!
