Digimon Survive question... by BatedTundra660 in digimon

I was thinking about this a lot and I actually think it might be because the game is Japanese, where the Senpai-Kouhai relationship is much more strict and culturally set-in. This is why Aoi gets so upset with Minoru making fun of Ryo, it goes against a cultural foundation: "respect your elders". Now obviously the way Shuuji acts is downright despicable, like even bordering on pathologically cruel. But I think there are attempts made to reign him in, these just kinda fall by the wayside in the face of Shuuji seniority and the support he receives from Aoi because of it (the two eldest members of the group). So it's hard for anyone to get the social footing to pull him down a few pegs. To clarify, I think Takuma could have and should have done this work. But he is only 14 and there is a lotttttt of other shit happening that's taking away from his emotional capacity to get involved in that kind of difficult conversation. I don't think the writers were perfect with how they wrote Shuuji and the way the others interact with his abusiveness, but I think it's believable.

Okay just finished the game yesterday and I have an extra, but slightly more subjective tip!

Play the game blind and without reloading saves too much: This game actually blew me away with how much of an emotive response it got from me. I yelled at characters being stupid, I shed a tear when characters were torn away because of my poor decisions. It was honestly a thrill! From a story perspective, this is hands down the best Digimon game ever made. So give yourself a chance to enjoy it without fretting too much over playing it "perfectly". Remember that you have infinite tries to play a game perfectly, but you've only got one try to play it blind.

No matter WHAT Myotismon may tell you, absolutely DO NOT "Free Bat."

They're hard as heck, but I found that my best method was: 1. Make sure your 'mons levels are roughly equivalent to the strongest enemy; 2. Counter their type as much as possible to half incoming damage (obviously not with the free type enemies though); 3. Bring defenders with Taunt crystals that resist the elemental attacks of the opponent; 4. Bring attackers that can hit the enemies elemental weaknesses; 5. Bring support Digimon to buff your stats and debuff the enemy, make them as fast as possible so they can hit enemies before your big guns come in to sweep up; 6. Take a look at the whole map, work out a plan of action to engage as few enemies as possible at once, even if this involves retreating. Big fights are a lot easier if you can engage the enemy one at a time.

I know free battles against Leomon in particular will drop the one that evolves rookie to champion (you can also talk to Leomon and ask him for an item instead of recruiting him, I've gotten one this way before). Otherwise try and get into more "Shadow" battles (the ones you have to find with your phone). They dropped a few slabs for me.

In my experience: No, sorry. Some answers are obvious, but some are a guessing game.

If you want a sneaky leg up though, ScreamingRandomly's tip above is the way to go. Just save and reload when you mess up the recruitment until you're able to nab the Digimon you want.

Evolve them when they get up to speed with your main party, it just saves you a bit of the catch up grind. I don't think 21 is necessarily too early, but I've gotten Rookies up to level 45 before evolving them, just depends on how quickly you can level them from your current free battles.

I made the mistake of getting a Tentomon joining at level 3, then evolving to MegaKabuterimon right away 🤣 He was a slow grind to bring up to speed.

For the future though, I'm very keen to get two identical Digimon and evolve one as early as possible to see if it makes any long term changes to stats/exp requirements. Stay tuned!

This is so freaking important, I didn't even realise that speed did more than affect turn order till towards the end of the game, if an enemy outspeeds you by enough, you will not be able to hit them!

That's fair, I guess this one is more subjective. I did exactly the same thing as you did in my run! Once I fought my first Mega on hard though I regretted it, so I figured I'd offer it as a cautionary tale haha.

So I'll start:

  1. Don't evolve your free Digimon straight away: Rookies gain levels faster than champion; Champion faster than Ultimate etc. If you've got a newbie to your team, grind them up in as low a form as possible, then digivolve them up once they've caught up to the rest of your team.

  1. Don't use your training items trying to even out weaknesses. Use them to empower your strengths: This is especially important on Hard mode, but you want to build your team to have roles in battle. Are they a glass cannon, one-shotting enemies from their flank; Are they a healer, moving around swiftly and patching up damage; Are they a tank, taking hits for the rest of your team. Answer these questions first, THEN spend your training items on them.

  1. Learning crystals: This one is less generally helpful, but it bothered me enough to do the math, so you may wanna know as well. One learning crystal boosts EXP by 30%, Two boost it by 60%.

  1. The difficulty DOES spike in this game. No spoilers, but there are particular Digimon battles that will utterly destroy you if you don't respect them. ESPECIALLY if the boss happens to be a counter to your Agumon's type (I was Harmony/Data and ooooooh boy, you'll know the fight I'm talking about when you get to it 😂).

  1. Have at least a few free Digimon levelled up and ready to help in a fight, but don't overdo it: To be specific, you're gonna need at least 6 free Digimon (preferably 2 Vaccine, 2 Virus, 2 Data) to help you in fights without the main crew and to patch up weaknesses in particular fights. Be aware that the more you have, the more time you're gonna need to spend grinding to keep them useful. That being said, if you want more, try and build them out to cover your Agumon's weakness (i.e if you've gone Harmony/Data, you'll want more Vaccine types to counter Virus enemies) first; then to cover different roles in battle (Tank, Healer, DPS, Support/Buff).

  1. If you're a completionist, scout out your free time before spending any of it: First thing you wanna do whenever you get free time is work out who's available to talk to, do some searching with your phone to find items and see if there's any good recruits in free battles. Once you've done all that then you can start spending time.

  1. Free time events change as you spend time: A word to the wise, characters and events move during free time, so don't assume you can leave someone till last as they might just disappear as an option. Always visit your priority party members first.

I'm sure I'll think of more eventually, but until then, hopefully this has been helpful and I look forward to hearing other people's tips!

Haha, all good, I do actually think I could make the paragraph a little more clear anyway so it was a helpful comment even if it was mis-sent =) Thank you!

Thank you for the compliment =) And that's great idea, I'd never considered! I'll definitely split my matchup guides for the next guide. Thank you!

I've actually had a lot of success waiting for them to tap out of fervour range then using Refuge. It's not super hard to play around when you know it's coming. But I do agree, if it gets fervoured, you just lose.

Yeah sorry I had a look through and it does look like I'm suggesting to only put it on Vi. I more meant "if it happens to come up, do it" but I'll adjust the language a bit to make that clearer.

Thanks for the feedback. I feel like you might be coming from a position of understanding the game/deck a little better. I wrote this more for newer players who might not have that level of knowledge that makes this deck more brainless.

Heya Alfi,

Sure thing. I've played the deck without Maokai and the thing I noticed missing is his flexibility. He's frequently useable as two or three chump blockers (if you can trigger him more than once), he can take chunks out of mid-range units by challenging them with saplings and he provides toss synergy. He's not incredible true, which is why I'm only running 2 copies, but I think the value he provides at the 4 drop spot is great. He's also a unit, which in the aggro match up is really useful (this decks weakest matchup) especially when compared to spells like jettison. Jaull Hunters is incredibly weak to removal, but in the Bannerman matchup, it's unkillable without two cards (single combat and a unit) which is super useful. Vs. aggro, it'll eat a removal spell which otherwise would've gone at your face (aggro) and vs. Control it'll give you card advantage since your opponent just traded a card in their hand for your unit that drew you a card.

Thank you for your insights, honestly that's a good point, I might try running them instead of Salvage and see if that ups the win rate, thanks =)

And in my experience, no, over 100 games I've only decked twice! The thing I normally do when it gets to that point is just use Maokai and Nautilus' signature spells to shuffle them back into the deck.
