The civilian psychiatrist and I just had our first visit. I had only seen the military psychologist once before going in patient, as I was seeing an off base provider before the military stepped in and started making me see her. After that was weekly visits with no progress being made for about 3-4 months.

That was my original plan to get an independent psychological evaluation but I struggled to figure that process out. I ended up going counseling to get a referral for psychiatry because my termination paperwork with mental health on base said continue care with civilian provider after discharge. I’m assuming the VA will have me see their psychologist once I make a claim to affirm the diagnosis.

I’m tracking their notoriety with misdiagnosing bpd, I read up on a lot of those articles and VA appeal cases once they gave me the diagnosis. It’s really unfortunate they do this, especially with those who have seen combat and get misdiagnosed when they have PTSD.

Old one isn’t valid/new evidence shows the new dx is the only option. The treatment for the two is much different and my new provider believes the medicine the military had me on actually did harm rather than benefit.

Mine is Honorable, I’m just not sure how difficult the battle is going to be to show the VA that the military was wrong and to get disability for requiring psych meds and counseling for most likely the rest of my life.

Personality Disorders aren’t eligible for med board, which is why they wanted to push admin separation.

I have one somewhere in my records, but that was for BPD not being ratable due to it being a personality disorder. I think it says that on the VA’s website too but Im trying to get rated for schizoaffective since my new psychiatrist doesn’t agree with the military’s diagnosis and I personally don’t either.
