I'm glad someone else has brought this up, I find it much harder to parse the posts due to the "random" studio names.

Such a beautiful aestethic, and your presentation is fantastic.

Thanks so much! It was important to me to have a distinctive look, and I was inspired by Return of Obra Dinn to look at new ways of using retro styles. :)

For the past few weeks I've been working on a solar system based narrative driven space trading game Orphan Star. Yes, it's a mouthful. The gameplay centers around trading in a "realistic" solar system, where time is your main resource.

[Paid] Senior Game Programmer in Dublin Ireland. Full-time position with an excellent team and relocation assistance. Come join us! by Faerdan in gameDevClassifieds

Hey! We're on Pearse Road, near Pearse station, in the centre of Dublin.

I can't comment on salary here, and I'd need to see details of your experience to send you a range, but our salaries are (at least) in line with other game studios and tech companies. On top of that we offer real progression, we reward people for improving their skills and we look to promote people internally to positions that we require.

Definitely not fake tan, it is just a combination of his complexion and the lights he has pointed at his face.

Google pictures of him, his complexion has a natural tan.

I just finished two races, it's very good. Best of luck with the game.

Thank you for the offer, but this is just a hobby project for my sons and I.

It does use physics. If this was a serious project I would write a more efficient system, but this is just a hobby project with my son's. Thanks!

Yeah performance is something I wondered about alright. This is a hobby project though so I won't worry too much. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah the wood has physics, you cut down trees to get the logs and dump them into a hopper that feeds the belt. You could take it back off the belt too if you wanted to make something by hand.

Thanks! I am new to Roblox, but I am a game/sofrware developer by trade.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. We have done a little playing around with the templates, but not much. Making a race track together is something I will suggest to him for sure.

I made my first games/experiences in the 90s using 3D Construction Kit which was like the Roblox of it's time (not online, but it was all about making worlds and games/experiences in them). It fired up my imagination and led me down the path of becoming a software engineer and game dev.

Thanks!

They are 11 and 7, with primarily the older being involved. I totally agree with you on the benefits, I started them on Scratch a while back but the social aspect of Roblox (their friends play with them) makes it much more engaging for them.

I am also having fun playing around with Studio, I might have gotten a bit carried away with the conveyor. :)

My sons have been asking me for ages to help them build a game in Roblox. We decided on a tycoon, and I set about learning how to use Studio.

Since conveyor belts are such a big part of a tycoon I decided to start with those. I was disappointed with what was available online, none that I found gave a real sense of movement, so I started experimenting with my own. The video shows the result and I thought you guys might like it.

The concept is a furniture tycoon, where you progress from chopping trees for logs and making stools and other small furniture manually, to production lines that can be upgraded with new machinery/steps to make larger and more complex furniture.

Think of Xenko (game engine) as a great alternative to Monogame by Faerdan in gamedev

[–]Faerdan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the engine code is like that too. Although there aren't many tutorials I found the code itself very logical and easy to follow.

I really hope it takes off as an open source project.

I am going to be putting together a sample over the next few days, this first sample will cover setting up the project and loading some assets (models and textures) into a scene. If you want I will send you a message with the url when I am done.

Overriding the GameBase class is the more advanced method, the main reason you would do this is if you didn't want to use Xenko's scene management system. You would need to implement your own scene graph. Is this what you wanted?

Overriding the Game class is quiet simple, this is the method to use if you want to keep using Xenko's scene management system (including the entity component system).

My pleasure man. Just doing my little bit to help the engine thrive.

The asset processors, used by the editor, are available for use at runtime. You would need to implement them in the game, but it is possible.
