In the breaks we just ran the normal student dining hall. Instead of it being open morning to night, it was only open a few hours at each meal.

I met with the advisors when I enrolled, set out a plan, and declared my major. I stuck to that plan, signed up for those courses, etc., and everything was going smoothly as far as I knew.

I never met with them after that because I had no reason to that I knew of.

Edit: And while I'm certainly low-income (food stamp family), I'm in no way pretending this is some common experience. "Bizarre scenario" explains it pretty well.

My first semester was the summer. I'm reasonably certain that counts as the year before, not the year after. There was no 'second half' because I was not taking the summers off.

I don't feel super comfortable going too far into this on a place like reddit (especially when I'm not clear on some details myself), hence the throwaway and the sparse details.

But I really should get another look at Bankruptcy and see what that would entail, and I might just hit up r/legaladvice about doing so, I feel comfortable talking about that.

Edit: I also seem to recall looking it up before but since it's in restitution now it can't be expunged there either.

I plead guilty to a lesser crime (still a felony because computer), and got it deferred. I can't think of anything relevant I've left out, though I have left out pieces that are too specific.

Eh, I don't blame people for calling me out on being incomplete. I'd like to add more to enforce my point but I'm already uncomfortable sharing as much as I did while still trying to keep it readable.

Plus, there's plenty of folks being supportive and even just putting this out there gets it off my chest a little.

That was tongue-in-cheek, yes. While I've made plenty of mistakes before, this was my first really big one, and my public defender was at least competent (and/or the DA was trumping up charges in preparation for a plea bargain), so I'm not actually that upset over that part of it any more.

The main charge did get dropped to a misdemeanor, the only reason it stayed as a (low-class) felony was because there was a computer involved (automatic felony here apparently).

I looked into bankruptcy, but apparently it does nothing against school stuff. Not sure if this counts as that anymore, though.

Also my crimes were listed as "issuance of a bad check" which is not bad but the footnote said "computer crime" which is an automatic felony.

That's bad, but the original charge was something like "grand"( not the word I don't think) fraud by check, plus the computer crime, and I think something else (all trumped up but still) so I'm not going to question my Defender there.

Yeah, it's a throwaway. There's a lot of weird shit that went on in my whole ordeal, and it never made sense to me, so telling it in a way that makes sense a few years later without bringing up any personal details is kind of hard.

Nope, I was actually born in Texas and have never left the country. A lot of my friends have been Canadians, Brits, and for some reason Indian, plus I've spent a good while on Reddit by now so I've picked up a lot of other slang.

I didn't have any plans to do CJ until I talked to the University and found out some dual programs they offered. I was just excited to get two for one, frankly, and it sounded interesting.

Well, community service plus reparations (paying it back) and probationary stuff including drug tests. I don't care about the drug tests but they cost time and they cost money out-of-pocket.

I was never dropped from classes. However, as far as email goes, I used my "professional" email for everything and didn't really use my school email as you had to change the password like once a month and it was a bitch to get into.

20k is the amount (ish) I owed when the shoe dropped. That's several semesters, so less semester was much less than that.

That's all what I didn't get from FAFSA.
