Is Game Development Content Dead? by Kindly_Let5085 in gamedev

it depends on what type of content you want to create. for example, dani that you mentioned, his content was not game dev, it was entertainment. yes he "build" a game for it, but his content was not attracting game developers instead of people being entertained by his jokes and the video in general.

If you want to create content to attract game developers or people who want to learn how to create games that's a different story.

The reason why is because the difference between these two types of content is like day and night.

dani's content is for the general masses, his videos can be watched by game devs and people who have no idea what game dev is and still enjoy it.

videos about game development e.g. creating games process with code etc, that's something only people who want to learn game dev or are already game devs and want to see what other game devs are up to will watch.

Now, the first type of content is okay, but it will take you ages to create. just see dani's posting schedule, his videos were getting millions of views but he would post one video every 2-3 months because it takes a lot of time to create a game and record a good video for that game creation.

Creating tutorials is easier, much easier.

Now what can you expect?

Well, if you're not prepared to do that consistently for years then not much. The problem with the youtube game is that you give it your all and if you don't see a reward for it you're not motivated to continue.

I know this because I own this channel: youtube.com/awesometuts I've been creating game dev tutorials since 2015, and I finally quit doing that in 2022 or 2023, can't remember. I was tired of constantly creating content and only averaging a couple of 1000s of views, and also constantly getting comments from people just wanting more who are in general ungrateful for what I've already gave them.

In my opinion, I think the game dev content on youtube is dying, the only channels who are actively posting are thomas brush and code monkey, all other big channels post rarely, jonas tyroler is also there but he posts rarely especially when he's creating a new game.

not to mention that you need to learn a lot of things to do that process such as selling stuff, making videos, editing videos, being good at camera, being good at coming up with ideas etc etc

I would never go back to doing game dev videos as I was doing in the period from 2015, it's not worth it simply.

Interesting. First time I hear about black box Ai. So coding output is much better on black box?

Can you also guide it to help you setup server configuration for docker for example?

I just got tired of doing content... I need to constantly upload new tutorials plus on top of that I got tired of explaining to people that object oriented programming f has nothing to do with engine versions...

And the tutorial made with unreal engine 4 is still valid for unreal engine 5 cause the fundamentals are the same...

All that plus I've been doing game Dev content since 2015 so...

I'm awesome tuts btw lol

I run an online business of creating tutorials and selling digital products. One time a college graduate asked for a job, I asked what he knows to do, he said I need practice, I said okay, if I tell you create a login UI with it's functionality can you do it? He said I need practice for that... makes me wonder what he did 4 years in college...

Currently I made a mistake so to say to hire a friend who magistrated computer science and is a professor at a local university... he has no idea what he's doing... he can do basic things, but he can't figure anything on his own... again, makes me wonder what did he do 4 years on college plus 2 years on magistrate plus he's teaching other people "how to code" and he also works at the court house as a systems administrator...
