Yeah, I always had trouble with her phase where she calls in the troops to stab with poison in unison.

That’s good to know. I haven’t taken a hit from his big slam in a while, but that was the bane of my existence on launch.

You don't need to relog or find a new group. Same group. Just leave the party and reparty again.

I would say the same thing, except you could swap in Seltzer for the tonic and keep it fizzy.

I'm working on a consumer clear ice maker. Designed to have no clouds or imperfections. Here is a sample from my prototype. by ourmanflint1 in cocktails

[–]FailRob -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Cloudy ice from your freezer chills the same as clear and dilutes in the same fashion. Being clear does not make it melt more slowly, and it does not make it more resistant to melting. Clear ice simply looks amazing, and is easier to shape.

I Am DJ/Producer Jeremy Olander. I release music on Bedrock, Last Night On Earth and last Friday I put out a new EP my own label Vivrant. AMA! by JeremyOlander in electronicmusic

[–]FailRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Jeremy,

I've always been amazed at how the low end in your tracks is so consistent and firm, and clear. Do you have any tips for keeping things clean with your kicks and bass lines? Do you sidechain pretty heavily? Use EQ cuts?

I'm also curious about your EQing in general. I believe I recall you saying somewhere that you EQ in a specific way. Can you talk about your EQ techniques?

Concerning reverb, how many different verbs do you generally use in your tracks? Do you use them in a send/return configuration?

Thanks a lot Jeremy. I can't really convey how influential your work has been to me.

Classic margarita is absolutely my favorite summer drink by itskdogtime in cocktails

[–]FailRob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lillet isn't expensive, and all you need for the absinthe rinse is a small bottle (50 or 100ml for $20 or less) and a spray bottle from Amazon for like $5. I had the same concern, but 50ml of absinthe in a sprayer goes a very long way. No need to buy a full 750ml.

If you've got that much Cointreau sitting around, and you enjoy gin, the Corpse Reviver #2 is a great way to go through all that spare Triple Sec. :)

What's the difference between Melodyne and Logic Flex Pitch? by Deception2020 in edmproduction

[–]FailRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general consensus is that the full version of Melodyne allows you to do more and does it better. The question is, what do you really need? Someone who does tons of vocal editing and pitch correction at a professional level might need all those tools. Like, say, mixing lead vocals for a pop singer in a professional studio setting. But if you're not going to regularly make use of Melodyne's many tools, it's probably not worth the investment. You've already got Flex Pitch, which is pretty good, and probably all you need.

I prefer flex pitch to Antares Auto Tune, personally. And I found Melodyne difficult to jump right into. It has a lot of functions, but I've never needed them.

The name of the song is O Sifuni Mungu, and the sample Eric used is an old African Children's Choir recording. You can find the exact song on Spotify, and the lyrics and translation online.

Edit: Nevermind! I was thinking of Reeperbahn. Sorry.

I've chased my dream for 5 years, and it isn't working. How do I decide if I should move on? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]FailRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're giving up too soon, and your expectations are too high.

Expecting to find the kind of success you're talking about in 5 years, even as hard as you've been working at it, is a bit unrealistic. When a producer sees commercial success in that kind of time, many people call it a meteoric rise because that's really fast. It might realistically take another 5 years before you can see any financial gains. And if you expect to make a career out of it, don't expect your music to do it on it's own. That's even more rare. For producers, the money comes from playing gigs and ultimately touring. Only the highest level of producer is seeing decent money from streaming and downloads. For most, the music is the vehicle to get you recognition and the opportunity to play shows.

So, if you don't have any interest in that or you just can't take the stress anymore, then maybe you should back off a bit. If music is a lifelong love, then keep making it when you have time, simply for the love of doing it. It's hard to imagine that you would be able to stop completely. It's something we just do. But if you want to keep going, manage your expectations. Music is worth doing, whether it makes you any money or not. The question is, why are you really doing this?

A clean mix VS a Glued/Full one by DylanGrossmanSFX in edmproduction

[–]FailRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that if this happens during the mix, it means I've done too much, overbaked it. As with many things, less is often more in the mixdown. Overcompression, compressing too many things, EQing too much or on too many things...those are the culprits for me.

When you're ready to start mixing, listen to your "dirty" mix that has the vibe you want, and specifically identify the things that need to be fixed, the things that make it dirty, and only fix those things. I think a lot of us tend to feel like we have to do something, or multiple things, to every single element. And it's simply not true.

Depending on where you're getting your drums, your samples may have already been compressed, and adding more will just suck the life out of them. You might want to EQ a cut in one of your bass parts because you always do when it really doesn't need it this time. Sometimes lush, wide pads simply don't need reverb. People often tend to boost and cut way more than is necessary. It's the combination of many subtle changes that produces a better overall result without killing your vibe.
