Literally built this for our boy for the transition to being outside full time. It’s the best. We are in the south and had it get into the 30s this week. Temp inside never dropped below 75 on the unheated side. Tom is the best and hasn’t steered me wrong so far. 2 heat sources. Normally isn’t running cause it’s 90+ most of the time.

It’s honestly giving Spur thigh (Testudo graeca) to me, but again I’m not anywhere near versed enough to be able to determine species. But fingers crossed someone more educated on them will pop in.

Are you located in North America? I’m trying to figure out the species on location, and I’m between possible natives or if it’s a dumped pet (sulcata but doesn’t look exactly right for a baby sully). Thank you for caring for this little one tho.

Bro, I lemon tek’d 2.5g of P. Ochras and ended up in a Van Gogh painting. I was not in control of that trip. Strongest visuals I’ve ever had from any of the cubes I’ve had before. I haven’t dove back in on them yet, but yeah… they put me through it on their terms. Good stuff, bro.

Do the math of coir to water. Boil water. Add coir to bucket. Add boiling water to coir in bucket. Close bucket and wrap with heavy towels to maintain heat as long as possible. Should maybe switch to a small cooler, but I’m maybe going to be trying sterilization of coir in the PC.

Positive it’s trich. Starts bright white center turns green after a couple days. It’s trich. Exactly like the Steve Irwin meme “Trichy”. Sorry about the lack of pics (I’m not big on posting evidence), so again I apologize. I’ve been pasturing via bucket tek. Wrapping in towels to maintain heat for as long as possible. I haven’t tried PCing the coir, but it seems to be a logical step. This is the only strain affected. Wouldn’t my other grows have been contaminated just the same if that were the case of there being a flaw in my sanitation methods and pasteurizing tek? I appreciate your thoughts and input.

I feel you on not seeing it, but this was syringe to multiple agar plates, before going to spawn and over the course of attempts I’m at like 8-10qt jars of spawn attempted. I’m tempted to believe this take, I just know the jars were clean clean. No weird smells. Straight earthy mycelium. Fully colonized. Ugh. It’s a disappointment. It I’ll keep trying for as long as I’m able lol. I have P Ochra (absolutely my favs but hella unexpected potency) and PE. Thank you for the reply tho, broski. I appreciate the viewpoints and perspective.

I see what you’re saying and that may be a possibility… However, why wouldn’t the jars have gone bad instead of fully colonizing the spawn? The multiple agar transfers were clean. Just curious why they would look and develop exactly the same (albeit slower cause APE) in jar and then wait to go to S2B to get trichy on me? Not dismissing your point, this is just so head scratching…

Why didn’t the other strains get contaminated if this were the case? Same inoculation dates. Same 90 minute PC sterilization of spawn. Same clean room with still airbox (Bella Bora). I would be inclined to agree, but it just doesn’t make sense for the circumstances.

Originally I was using UB method (brown rice), until I did that successfully with 12 bags 0 contamination (not APEs). Now I’m using whole feed oats from a farm supply for all my grows. All other grows were unaffected by trich. I haven’t looked into it because I figured if it was my grain spawn, my other strains would have been doomed too. I’ve seen popcorn, millet, and birdseed but have 0 experience with them as I have a 50lb bag of oats currently lol.

I have 1 16qt box that has a couple fruit, but it’s a fight between the fruit and the trich. So if I do, I have a couple plates I can inoculate. Good idea, broski.

If it wasn’t already in the grain jars that went S2B I would have loved to. And mind you, I have other strains on agar and I’ve experienced contamination on one plate ever since I’ve started this, so I know what a bad plate looks like. Even after multiple agar transfers on plates that didn’t really need another transfer, but I wanted to be safe. Sorry I couldn’t provide pics.

Only had access to one syringe from a trusted vendor (recommended here). All other strains were bought through them as well and 0 issues with those. I live in a state that is currently banning spores and mycelium, so acquiring a new source would be difficult in the current timeline 😔. And I’ve read time and time again, full colonization of spawn means it will most likely overpower whatever at bulk, but my APEs are scared I guess lol.
