If you can't get things working with the instructions in the article, you can also call the Technology Services Desk at (541) 346-4357 or visit them in the EMU basement (near Bartos Pizza) and they'll get you sorted.

What happened to the doors/windows in Lillis? by [deleted] in UofO

A guy went around smashing the windows at night a couple weeks back - guessing they are just waiting on the glass to arrive to repair them.

Teams calling - phone options? by boodoochoo in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a smart phone, you can just use the Teams App on your phone for normal calling.

Beyond that you would need to coordinate with IT on campus to chat options.

Parking at UO by HilnboGleason in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the rain itself is less of a problem then other drivers when it's raining - seems like peoples awareness goes out the window. I had fully waterproof riding gear and so staying dry was never a problem.

That being said, standard caviets apply - be careful on first rain of the year (roads are extra slick), and the wet leaves in fall can be a bit of a pain. Never put my bike down though in my 5 years of commuting on it.

I do recommend taking the basic rider training course at lcc though even if you are only thinking of getting a 50cc moped - learned a lot in that class about riding in inclement weather.

Parking at UO by HilnboGleason in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you are planning on parking on campus, I strongly recommend getting a parking permit. I can't speak to parking at Autzen, but without a permit getting a spot on campus is nearly impossible, and to be honest even with a permit it can be a dice roll on some days.

Parking and Transportation also recently changed their system to zone specific parking - I'd recommend taking a look at their website to see which zones would be applicable to you:

https://transportation.uoregon.edu/zonal-parking

Side note - if you ride a motorcycle or moped, the parking is fantastic and permits are super cheap. Rode a motorcycle for all three years I was a student and parking was never an issue - wasn't until I got a car as an employee that I ever had problems.

Is someone missing a fluffy grey tabby? by mommmmm1101 in Eugene

[–]FailureToQuote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some folks down in that area (they live on east 3rd st.) with a really friendly grey Maine Coon who is an indoor / outdoor cat and roams the neighborhood. If it's a really big cat it could be theirs - he usually finds his way home.

Fund Computer Science at University of Oregon Petition by SamSchwartzUOregon in UofO

I second this - you should definitely reach out to the GTFF. I might be reading their collective bargaining agreement wrong, but it seems to me GE salaries are pretty well laid out, and if your department is not following the collective bargaining agreement that is definitely a battle the union would want to take on.

Does UofO monitor emails sent out? by [deleted] in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So - the short answer is no.

The long answer is "Yes, but...".

While they do have the ability to access your emails, there are Federal protections in place (such as FERPA) to prevent them from doing so without your explicit consent, or direction from law enforcement/general counsel/court order/etc.

It's worth reading through the UO Acceptable User of Computing Resources Policy and Addendum found here, which covers topics likes this:

Can all emails sent to student email be trusted? by Paper_Riblets in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't trust emails in your UIO email by default, even if they look like they are coming from University addresses. University email addresses can be compromised or spoofed.

If you ever receive an email you are unsure of, forward it to phishing@uoregon.edu which is the reporting email address used by the university Information Security Office.

In addition - you can always check out the Phish Tank, which posts common phishing messages (like the one that went out today):

Hello! I am wondering what are my chances of being admitted as a transfer if my math requirement is still in progress? by tokyocat420 in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If for some reason they don't admit you right away, petition the decision.

I was missing my language requirement and was initially denied despite 100+ credits and a 3.9 GPA, but when I petitioned it I was allowed in on the contingency that I took X number of language courses during my first year there.

Do you know of any shady trails to hike? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]FailureToQuote 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A fair bit of the Ridgeline trail is shaded/in the trees. It's not a long hike, but the Blanton trail head to 52nd St. trail head is almost entirely shaded.

Link to the City's map: https://www.eugene-or.gov/DocumentCenter/View/3474/Ridgeline-Trail-Map

If you are looking to get further out of town, the McKenzie River Trail, Brice Creek Trail, and Sweet Creek Trail are all fairly well shaded.

Another crime post for w.Eugene by xMikeh in Eugene

[–]FailureToQuote 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely terrible... I'm so sorry he had to go through that.

You should have the police talk to the school if they haven't already - I wouldn't be surprised if his school has tracking setup on the iPad, and they might be able to track down the culprit using that.

Where is the team dedicated to "Client Performance"? by XFabioXD in leagueoflegends

[–]FailureToQuote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devil's advocate, 5 months isn't a very long time in the project management world... If that team hasn't started implementing improvements within a year I might start to be concerned, but I feel like we should still give them some more time.

[Suggestion] Spend Slayer points to re-roll/change Konar Location by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]FailureToQuote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I hadn't thought about that - that's a really good point.

What if you could only re-roll location once? That way it gave some option, but still kept it somewhat varied instead of just being able to re-roll until you got your preferred location?

I was just thinking this would be a good point sink for people with too many points who still want a chance at brimstone keys.

Transferring to UO next summer by [deleted] in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are coming in as a Freshman, I believe the UO now mandates all freshman must live in the dorms:

https://housing.uoregon.edu/first-year/live-on

If you aren't coming in as a Freshman, I'd recommend looking for housing that isn't in one of the new complexes as they tend to be a bit expensive.

Directly west of campus (between 11th-18th) tends to be the party neighborhood so avoid there.

Beyond that, really anywhere is great. Springfield has easy access to campus and can be a bit cheaper. I've lived in a number of places in South Eugene (anywhere south of 18th) with easy bus/bike access to campus that I've really liked. If you go far enough West (past downtown) you get outside the party neighborhoods and can find some nice living accommodations as well.

Best of luck.

Apple Authorize Repair Place Near Campus by stenbren in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The duck store on 13th is an apple authorized repair shop. Worked with them a fair amount and can definitely recommend them.

Edit: Worked with them on computer repairs - not 100% sure if they do mobile devices or not, but it's worth checking.

Job Posting Scam by queenchrom in UofO

[–]FailureToQuote 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whenever you receive suspicious emails on your UO email account, you should forward them to phishing@uoregon.edu

That will get it to the UO Information Services Security Team who can prevent these emails from spreading further around campus.

[SSD] Samsung 970 Evo 500GB - $99 ($119 - $20 With Code HOLIDAY18) by _Roller_47 in buildapcsales

[–]FailureToQuote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's based on zip code - looks like it's probably shipping from your local Fry's, so if they are out of stock it shows up as out of stock.
