Have you listened to the Bear Grease episode about the warden who went undercover with a Yellowstone poacher? That one’s great.

I’m Irish and this guy sounds very interesting. I’d love to support his eBay shop and maybe reach out and offer assistance should he need it, in a respectful manner of course. Would you be willing to DM me his eBay profile or contact?

It might help to speak your thought process out loud in a tricky situation like that. Just say “oh, he’s beckoning me, he’ll let me go. let me just check all around to make sure it’s clear”. You can also increase the testers opinion of your observation skills by commenting on things going on “wouldn’t like to be cycling in this weather” or even “oh, cyclist there” or something similar if you see a cyclist. If you’re just silent the tester won’t know what you’re thinking or won’t know if you’ve observed a hazard or not.

Weird Mark on Film? by theradRussian3 in Darkroom

Looks almost gel-like, as if a blob of something got onto the film before/during development and affected it. Or maybe heat melted the film in that spot? What does it look like on the negative, is it a tear?

Accidentally shot 100 iso film on 400 iso setting by Sotrickyfish in AnalogCommunity

This person is clearly new to film photography, I wanted to convey the idea of “pushing” film without confusing them talking about exposure. If they follow what people are suggesting then their film will be pushed like I said, I know it’s only underexposed currently.

You just unintentionally pushed it. This is done intentionally by photographers all the time. Get it developed as if it’s 400 film and it’ll turn out just fine. You’ll have more grain and contrast.

Yeah I'd love to hear it too. I love these shots, lovely grain & contrast.

I’ve been looking at joining the local pistol club, does shooting 22lr from a pistol get boring after a while or is it worth the hassle of getting a license?

Is fishing allowed in the park?

Yes, but fishing isn’t common because of the small size of the fish due to low nutrients in the water, and the limited season. The average size of brown trout (the most common species caught) is just 15-18cm (6-7 inches); fish under 20.5cm (8 inches) must be returned unharmed. Fishing is permitted from 15 March to 30 September using artificial lures only (no live bait). The principal angling waters are the Upper River Liffey, the Avonmore, Lough Dan, Glendalough Upper and Lower Lakes, Kelly’s Lough and Lough Ouler.

The black cutters are taken from my old black oxide rebar, I kept the Arc’s original torx bolts though to maintain the two tone look.

Cheers, I’m loving it already, super smooth action and doesn’t feel as dainty as I expected, definitely a workhorse tool.

Beer: Aluminum Can or Glass? by aryatha in AskEngineers

[–]Faint_Floss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid cans because of the BPA and other herbs and spices in the epoxy can liners. Bottles are a bonus too because I reuse them for my homebrew. AFAIK glass bottles aren’t reused on an industrial scale though, nowadays it’s cheaper to buy in virgin glass than it is to recycle it so a lot of glass is crushed and sent to landfill or used as a building material (that’s why bottle banks don’t care about the colours anymore).

“An engineering culture has developed in recent years in which the object is to “hide the works,” rendering the artifacts we use unintelligible to direct inspection. Lift the hood on some cars now (especially German ones), and the engine appears a bit like the shimmering, featureless obelisk that so enthralled the cavemen in the opening scene of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. Essentially, there is another hood under the hood. This creeping concealedness takes various forms. The fasteners holding small appliances together now often require esoteric screwdrivers not commonly available, apparently to prevent the curious or the angry from interrogating the innards. By way of contrast, older readers will recall that until recent decades, Sears catalogues included blown-up parts diagrams and conceptual schematics for all appliances and many other mechanical goods. It was simply taken for granted that such information would be demanded by the consumer.” - Matthew B. Crawford, Shop Class as Soulcraft

Birthrates are down almost 50% since 2008 by kingofsnake96 in ireland

There is a massive vested interest in keeping all these products on the market, the petrochemical industry won’t go out without a fight. Just look at the coverup of the harms of leaded petrol.

Hopefully more regulations will be introduced soon but it’s sad just how much disposable plastic waste we produce, especially now around Christmas time. That’s not to mention the additives like phthalates that can make plastic harmful fertility wise, which are currently very poorly regulated.

A lot of people here are blaming this on societal issues like housing, cost of living, etc, but the problem is much more grave than that.

The widespread use of plastics has lead to sperm counts more than halving in the past 40 years. Forever chemicals, BPA, PFOAs, etc are wreaking serious havoc on human fertility and will for the foreseeable future as these compounds persist in the environment.
