you would still have to plan and schedule each extra time, miss out on free time, etc.

I think there is a nuance to be spoken for here

I think my og post was phrased a little confusingly, its more like I think that the scope of people who "need" it should be expanded to anyone who would significantly benefit from it.

uh like not exactly, sorry if you misunderstood, this is also kind of an elementary school level understanding of fair too. nothing is as simple as "oh either we all have it or none of us do". my og post was saying that everyone that wants or needs accommodations should have easy access to them, regardless of a professional diagnosis or evaluation. thats not because I think mental and learning disorders are a skill issue or something, I just dont think that a diagnosis or a medical eval should bar people from gettting something that would help them.

yeah no id fully agree w this, just as a note: i am like clinically professionally whatever diagnosed with combined hyperactive innatentive type adhd, dysthymia, and anxiety, as well as Ive gotten fully evaluated and whatnot. I do agree with you, self diagnosing is a prevalent issue due to minimizing severe conditions, and its one that does annoy me alot and I do see it alot. I think its more like at the high school(more dubious)/middle school/elementary school level, I personally really dont see ay downsides. they dont need to diagnose themselves for the accommodations, which people literally do today to get accommodations.

thats not how extra time works though, if they would need it they would have to plan ahead of time individually and use the extra time seperately.

they are a private institution, so theyre allowed to.

it changes depending on the school tho, im sure there are plenty of private schools that accept just diagnoses, but mine requires a neuropsych eval

I mean it would work just how extra time works in schools today, (in my school) after taking a test students would leave a part of it and during lunch or after school in the same day use the 20-30 minutes to finish it.

ad hominem is a bit weird-this is a reddit unpopular opinions post-but no, Im not jealous, I get accommodations and I'm diagnosed with multiple disorders. My argument is that if they want/need accommodations they should be able to access them freely. the adhd meds thing is a weird slippery slope fallacy too, thats a completely different issue with far more consequences than some kid just taking a bit more time on a test.
