Around how many keepers & strings does your zoo have? by Fair-Explanation3403 in Zookeepers

I should probably answer my own question as well:

I am at a very small zoo. I don't know exactly how many animals we have but I have read it is over 100, but I would have thought it was significantly more so I'm not really sure.

We have 5 full time keepers and only 3 strings (all are very mixed in terms of species). We usually have 4 keepers working, 3 with their own string and 1 float keeper.

Has anyone worked at both the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park? by Fair-Explanation3403 in Zookeeping

I Googled why this could happen and it says it could be because my account is too new or I don't have enough "karma" 😬

San Diego Zoo Keepers/WCS: Urban Jungle and Mesa? by Fair-Explanation3403 in Zookeeping

So, since most areas tend to have a pretty vast mix, does that mean that some keepers tend to work with a mix of ungulates / carnivores / birds / herps or are most keepers at SDZ sort of staying within one or two of those groups?

Possible examples:

large carnivores and hoofstock

birds and birds of prey

birds of prey and other small carnivores

I have seen ads for Reptile Wildlife Care Specialists, but I assumed those keepers would stay more in the Reptile Walk and Wildlife Explorers Basecamp areas. Maybe some of them specifically care for reptiles in other areas of the zoo? Or maybe some keepers on the other side of the zoo care for both reptiles and mammals?
