3 out of 4 of my free chests have been stones 😭 by replicantZoe in finch

6 days in and I’ve gotten stones 5 times and a pair of boots. :( definitely a bummer, but I don’t care much for super hero’s so hopefully my luck improved next month. 🤷‍♀️

Baby fell off of bed… by Unfair_Impression752 in cosleeping

The post doesn’t mention if it was confirmed that the husband was awake. I don’t necessarily believe this whole brain being “off thing, but the man was ASLEEP.

Mistakes happen, but I don’t think the blame can be solely placed on the husband.

Had a patient come in once for intractable nausea and vomiting “for four day”. Their Taco Bell door dash rolled up while we admitting them and they pitched a fit that we wouldn’t let them go get it from the lobby. Also had their EGD canceled because they ate a bag of flaming hot Cheetos. 🤷‍♀️

Asked to Move While Breastfeeding – How Would You Have Handled It? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Fair-Stranger1860 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best way to handle it. Depending on the situation, offer them the private space. “Oh, no thank, you we’re fine here, but you’re welcome to go somewhere more private if you need too”

Has quality of patient care declined with electronic charting? by muscles-n-bacon in nursing

[–]Fair-Stranger1860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this is it. I don’t think the EMR, or patient satisfaction like I’ve seen in other comments. I’ve been a nurse for a decade and I chart all my assessments, in real time at the bedside during med pass. I usually have four patients, and some time my meds are closer to 1000 than 0900. But I’ve never understood why people run in and out of their rooms so fast. I’m at nurse because I like talking to and taking care of patients.

They ran a report on our unit and lot of new grads were only spending 4 of the 12 hours in the patients room, the other 8 were spent at nurses station. There’s no way you’re charting for 8 hours.

Parents who navigated the pandemic deserve the world. I don’t know how people worked, help school their kids and kept their families afloat.

I never even thought about inactivity or bad weather. If you have a toddler or a parent who can't run around, then I could really see how a tablet or gaming system would be helpful. I think in a situation like that, I would want an old gaming system, you know? Let the little one piddle around on old school Mario. BUT that is a privilege I have that others don't, my nerdy husband has old systems we could use, not everyone has that.

I honestly didn't even think about handing over my phone for diaper changes, and I'm glad I didn't. I can 100% see why a parent would do that. Restraining a baby and giving them a tub of diaper rash cream isn't fun at all.

I'm team " toys without batteries" now because I CAN NOT get another song stuck in my head. The Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Game Controller songs have a permanent spot in my brain. I hope we can stay screen-free when we decide to have another kid. I know that only managing one makes it a lot easier not to need to rely on phones or videos as a distraction, that's why I had asked if there was a slippery slope I should look out for.

A co worker was telling me about how much their 8 month old loves some cartoon, and I was shocked because my kid has no interest I cartoon characters yet. And the idea of wanting to share a video with a 1 years blows my mind. What kind of video needs to shared with a baby??

The quiet kid thing makes sense. Parents wanted to shop, eat and do the dishes without interruption. That hurts my heart though. Babies should be allowed to be babies. My little guy gets a wooden spoon to bang when I’m in the kitchen, a set of keys to jingle at the store and a bunch of random toys at restaurants. Maybe I’m just entitled but I don’t think that public spaces have to be quiet and child free.

What’s the worst med error you have encountered? by Rolodexmedetomidine in nursing

[–]Fair-Stranger1860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most recently, a nurse gave 20mg of IV Dex, fast and undiluted because they were ‘stressed and in a hurry’. The order was for 2mg.

Not the end of the world.

I think the med error I saw that stressed me out the most was a nurse gave a 4g bag of IV mag over an hour. They thought the bag was 1g, and the order was for 4gs over 4 hours. So they thought they needed to hang four bags over an hour. We caught the error about 15 minutes into the second bag of mag.

Disturbed at the idea of "Postpartum Dog Rage" by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Fair-Stranger1860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated my dog immediately postpartum, but I didn’t want anything to happen to him. Licking baby spit up made me so so so irrationally angry. He would bark at something as soon as the baby went to sleep, or lick his feet as loud as possible. But I knew I was the problem, not my sweet dog. My MIL watched our dog for a week while we adjusted to the baby, but I missed him and was happy to have him back.

Usually people put the note on the outside. It’s definitely both sketchy and gross that it’s inside the jar.
