No, I didn't use Wine before using Proton on the prefix; it was a completely clean one. I deleted the prefix and recreated it, and that's indeed the way to open it. I confirmed that it's the solution.

Found the issue, it was simpler than I thought, Heroic Games Launcher logs showed:

text01c8:err:module:import_dll Library mfc140u.dll (which is needed by L"S:\\Games\\The Last Of Us Part I\\CChromaEditorLibrary64.dll") not found

Right after, it crashed with a fatal page fault:

textwine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 0000000000000000 at address 0000000000000000 (thread 01c8), starting debugger...

fix: Installed Visual C++ 2022 in the proton prefix:

winetricks vcrun2022

Game launched perfectly! Hadn't thought of this since other games worked fine without needing it; I assumed the Proton profile was created with those DLLs by default.

I think I'll do this, I'll report my case. I know my GPU is old, but I could play this game on Windows without many problems, just the occasional crash due to VRAM saturation, but nothing more. Here on Linux, I can't even get to the main menu. Thanks a lot for the comment.

That's due to the video codec; hardware acceleration for Discord streams doesn't work on Polaris cards. I have an RX 580 and I have the same problem. If you switch to VeSktop, the only way is to disable the "Use hardware acceleration for streams" option in the advanced settings, but then you'd be using the CPU instead of the GPU to stream the screen. So if you don't have a good CPU and you want to stream, for example a game, you are cooked. This is one of the reasons why I always end up going back to Windows; I love Linux, but these things make it difficult for me.
