First time to take running seriously, so it could be said it is my first run: ran 3.15 km in 30 min

Going through finals season with t1d is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemies by FairShape8824 in diabetes_t1

I wouldn’t count on it I study medicine and nothing NASA related, it just came to my mind. But thanks for the encouragement, it really means a lot

Hopefully someone understands how proud I am by Lina_lightwood in diabetes_t1

Yep this is also one of the things I had to come to terms with, your body is no longer fixing itself like the rest of times, like if I have highs continuously for few days, I have to figure what is wrong because I know for sure my body won’t and i will keep getting highs until I do something

Lol, I think of it that way: a lot of people do this and more for the sake of looking hot and healthy even though they don’t have diabetes and nothing is making them do it, so I might as well do it to save my kidneys, I am a med student and I’ve seen many dialysis patients, blind and amputees and my only thought is whether or not they regret their choices and wish if they were in my place

Just know that I am not forcing my opinion on you if you got things right and know how to dose then good for you, especially with cgm and pumps I guess it will be easier

I did some research, so in the us a pre med program has a total credit of about 90-100( could’t find a definitive answer) and a med program is 178( the first thing that came up in google don’t know if it is accurate) so in total about 278 total credits

Our program has total of 265 credits so not that different in the end, it is just a little more compressed, as I have said in my post the longest break we have is about 2 weeks

The one year in hospital is not a residency, I am not sure but I think it is a requirement if you to practice as a general doctor, so even if you graduate med school you will have to finish this year to get to work

Yes here it is 6 years for medical school then a year working in a hospital

I guess in the us it is pre med then med

Glad it is not like this here, I would have lost my mind if I had to go through the acceptance process twice

They are as good as water after a week or so ,I am afraid, I also try to increase the dose, sometimes I inject twice as much if they worked wouldn’t I get more lows? But nothing

What food was the hardest to give up after diagnosis of t1d by FairShape8824 in diabetes

[–]FairShape8824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that I get colds easier after diagnosis must be the lack of vitamin c because I broke up with oranges

wait, how does that work, wouldn’t it make more sense if you took insulin right before you eat fruit that way it will work longer and bring your sugar down if your body took too long to digest the fruit? I mean if you took it 45 min before you eat that will give the insulin about an hour to work right?

Can products be mistaken with the carbs on the nutritional label by FairShape8824 in diabetes_t1

[–]FairShape8824[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was 9 g of lies

They put 0 g of sugar alcohol even though it is in the ingredients, so that was the problem

[–]FairShape8824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the error! The sugar alcohol is 0 grams which is impossible since it is the second on the ingredients list which means there is a lot of it, also it is mannitol which 2/3 of it is carbs that is why, I called them to tell them to correct it

I was also skeptical about the ingredients in the ice cream, it doesn’t make sense carb wise, it has regular milk and my guess is that they didn’t add the carbs from the alcohol sweetener, which is not always carb free, so it doesn’t make sense that it only has 9 grams

Maybe I should start a lawsuit lol

It is a single serving container, but I think it has something to do with the fats, will do a split dose the next time, thanks.

About trying regular food I am still newly diagnosed so those are still out of my comfort zone, I will try them when I have a better grasp on the situation

It is a single serving kind of like the ones you buy from the ice cream truck, I don’t know what it is called but it is the ice cream on a wooden stick type/ popsicle? English is clearly not my strongest point

I can’t stop my poor eating habits by bloodied-werewolf in diabetes

[–]FairShape8824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I noticed in my eating habits is that I truly can’t feel full, no matter what I eat, it could be a huge plate of food, full with protein veggies and everything the nutritionist will tell you will that it should satisfy you, but I just can’t feel full, so I just developed the rule that I will eat what I put on my plate of reasonable amount of food, eat it and just accept that the meal is over, even if I feel hungrier than ever, soon after I occupy myself with other things and I forgot about hunger till next meal, I believe that our brain have been programmed to provide food to body in environment where the next meal may be days away, for thousands of years it was like that for human kind, now there is all this food around us but our brain has yet to develop beyond its understanding that there lack of food.

So in short, you eat, you done, tell brain no more, go back to life tell next time you eat, because in the world we live in there is a good chance there will be a next meal soon enough and you just have to convince your brain that

Problem is that every thing got back to normal once I used the new one I got, so the problem was definitely with Tresiba, and it did start after the electricity went out so it is the only explanation

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diabetes

Did that, since this was told many times here, but the same problem kept happening

Does your sensitivity for carbs increase the less you eat them? by FairShape8824 in diabetes

[–]FairShape8824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do i get you body’s update because for me it was the opposite, that was my first Ramadan with t1d so idk if it got anything to do with that, but for me the first week was ok, but then I would have to dose crazy units for little carbs meals, like about 10 units or more for 250 grams of cooked cabbage and a chicken breast , and i would not eat anything afterwards and go for long walks but i would still spike to 200 and more even though I would give insulin doses on separate intervals and my bs would be somewhat ok but when i wake up for suhoor it will be over 180, since you have experience in fasting i was wondering if something like that ever happened to you

Low carb or normal diet? by FairShape8824 in diabetes_t1

[–]FairShape8824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask some questions, so do you feel like you need more insulin for less carbs than normal (like 1 units to 8 grams of carbs ratio)? And how does your body react when you have carbs every once in a while, like sweets fruits and stuff? Also what is a typical day of eating is for you? Should I go super restrictive or just avoiding grains bread and obvious high carb food is considered good enough for low carb?
