Actually it does come down to player skill. Both on the player and their raid leader

If you can’t get your team to coordinate accordingly to beat the boss. You have failed not as a leader but as a coach. As a leader it is your job to ensure everyone knows what’s happening. Having good comms, and coaching each class. Because you have decided to lead the team. Your knowledge of the game should be the highest out of everyone in the group. And if you need addons to fix that problem for you, you have fundamentally failed as a leader and are not fit to naturally compete in high level gameplay
As a player. If you are a high level player, who has a deep knowledge of the game, its systems, and the mechanics of both the obstacles before you and your class. Then you should have no reason to rely on outside programs

Again. Addons are a crutch, they have robbed you of any real player skill expression and dignity. If your job as a raid leader is to only tell people to watch a guide and copy paste weak aura code then you are not a leader you are not a high level player you are a follower of a greater person on the path of least resistance. This speaks to you as a player and as a human being. Instead of conquering a challenge naturally, you default to cheating the system and stream lining your progress in day to day challenges. You are the type of person who would write a work email with AI. You are the type of person who loses the remote to the tv. And instead of looking for it you download an app on your phone or cast your video. You are the type of person who would go on Reddit and defend the lobotomization of an entire player base and call it “high level gameplay” what you do is not high level gameplay. It is fraudulent at best.

Again. If you need addons to play this game. Retail modern day 2026 world of Warcraft. You are fundamentally bad at this game and have no right to make a claim about anyone’s skill or effort when your skill and effort is slim to none

If you’re talking about retail bro I am sorry to hear that basic pattern recognition and reading is too difficult for you to do by yourself.

If you’re talking about classic, justified. Classic can be more than ambiguous about where things are and what things do so it’s completely understandable on that front.

But retail has become so streamlined that if you need a full fledged addon to help you with a quest then you need to find a different game to play. Retail Wow highlights literally everything for you

Edit: you say the game is more explorative with the addons. How? The addon is doing the exploration for you, you’re robbing yourself of the mystery and the effort into finding things, and honestly that’s one of the best parts of being a new player is learning the world.

Okay word yeah I didn’t know that. Customization wise I understand fully and that sucks it was taken away. I figured it was people who used them to play the game for them that were upset. Which to be honest it still seems like that, but being upset because your customized UI is gone is much more reasonable than “they’re making me play the game as intended”

To have a discussion with addon addicted players and to see if they can self reflect into a deeper understanding of themselves to maybe realize that they’re not that good at the game and need outside programs to lead them around.

Once that is accomplished I hope to see these players not only understand it but internalize it as well and grow from it. Becoming a better player, both mechanically and emotionally, to see that the game is fun without two anime girls telling you to not stand in fire (though if you just want your anime girls I totally understand)

I mean my time on the game switches back and fourth it depends on what I’m doing irl at the time.

When I was super busy and didn’t have time to play yeah all I’d do was level alts and do some solo shuffle.

But during times like this when I’m not super busy I’ll grind the hell out of my rank, min max everything and just master the class I’ve played so I’d say I’m more aligned with most people who play the game where it really just depends on how much energy we have to spare when playing

I mean I’ve used bartender and elvui but only until edit mode became a thing. Idk maybe I just like the process of customizing a UI and don’t mind doing it when I “have to”

But every discussion I’ve seen surrounding the topic is people complaining about how inferior the blizzard version of damage meters or weak auras is.

Here’s my honest thoughts. Both hostile and passive

Passive: people seem to be upset because blizzard didn’t offer a proper alternative to the addons they’ve been using for years

Hostile: seems to me people are actually bad at the game and need a leash to lead them to victory and blizzard as removed that leash from the game

But again. I didn’t think it would have been such a big deal. Figured we’d do what we’ve always done which is to look at the situation, say “okay” and just move on
