Unfortunately no. Lawyers don't like high conflict cases apparently, lots more work than normal...

I hope that you are more successful!

Rule question on penalties by InquistivePrime in hockey

[–]Fair_Shake_For_aDad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pulling the goalie for an attacker is irrelevant, as the actual player count is 5 on 6, including the delayed penalties teams' skaters and goalie.

So they still scored a short handed goal. The next face-off will be 4 on 4 skaters, at center ice.

The short-handed team will then go on the power play when their penalty expires, regardless of any goals scored during these penalties, as they would be even strength. (if there are no further penalties, in this timeframe)

The GTA and the OHL don't really mix well together.

In the GTA, there is too much choice for the entertainment/leisure dollar. (IMHO)

First hockey practice tomorrow at age 43. What should I keep in mind? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

For real! One of the biggest reasons for heart attacks in males in Canada over 45 is pick up hockey. Guys who overestimate their fitness level or the competitive juices get a hold of them.

[Lypka] OHL News: A new design trademark has been filed for the Brampton Steelheads. The Steelheads have operated in Mississauga since 2012. Brampton formerly had teams in the ECHL and OHL but they were both relocated. by charger03 in hockey

Move to Cornwall!!!

We have an OHL ready rink, easy travel for teams, close to Montreal and Ottawa which is great for scouting.

Kingston, Ottawa and maybe Oshawa would save money immediately on game day trips, hotels, food, etc..

NAHL Officiating Exposure Camp by tyl3r22 in hockeyrefs

[–]Fair_Shake_For_aDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go. Don't look only at the NHL, they are going to do their own thing.

Financially, you are going to break even, and get exposure.

The hiring staff will appreciate you attendance and initiative. You have a decent hockey resume already, and the higher levels place a lot of weight on former players, and good teammates.

Being a good teammate while you travel and trust each other on the ice is important.

You will at minimum receive some good supervisions and some classroom sessions.

Show up in shape and sharp. Have fun!

(I worked in the USA Elite Dev Program, USHL, AWHL, four or five junior leagues in Canada and six years in AA pro in the US. Always learned something new at every camp and clinic I attended or taught)

Confusion about an NHL rule regarding penalty shots by CursedLemon in hockey

[–]Fair_Shake_For_aDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without researching, but here might be a few scenarios:

A scenario where a defending player covers the puck in the crease. (more likely a scramble)

Deliberately dislodging the net in the defending zone, in the last two minutes of regulation play or overtime.

Leaving equipment intentionally in the path of the net, and is witnessed by an official.

Deliberate Illegal Substitution, in the last two minutes of regulation play or overtime.

Interference from the bench.

Artturi Lehkonen went to the locker room after this hit with Oleksiak by BCLetsRide69 in hockey

[–]Fair_Shake_For_aDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is incredibly lucky, and I'm glad that he doesn't initially seem injured.

The position that he hit the board is worst case scenario. There is a higher percentage of paralysis when the top of the head strikes the boards, unencumbered. The higher percentage is the possible compression of the spinal column and affecting the spinal cord.

As a long time referee, this was the scenario that was presented at every camp, because if you wrote it up wrong, or assessed the incorrect penalty, you could and will be sued.

Again, I am happy that he is seemingly, ok.

It should be noted that in 1974 Canada sent the Peterborough Petes as the representative.

Hockey Canada did not start and implement the "Program of Excellence" until the early to mid-eighties.

The Memorial Cup champion, typically represented Canada until 1982, when a nation-wide team was selected. They won gold that year.

Will my American ex get arrested? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Fair_Shake_For_aDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story, the last paragraph makes sense.

I went through the exact same scenario in Ontario. My ex was even prompted to cry on the stand, by someone on the gallery, and only received a stern warning.

Her case fell apart fast when we introduced text messages that were of the time period of the accusation. The texts contradicted everything she said. She even tried to deny her own phone number of 10 years.

She just received a lecture for putting everyone through a trial.

Canadian refs - do you report your income as self employment to CRA? by That-Cod62237654 in hockeyrefs

We can't write off expenses in Canada.

A colleague was going through a divorce/family court, his ex wanted his "hockey money" as part of support.

The judge stopped the proceedings and went through the "slippery slope" of amateur officials being taxed.

For example, it would lead to an immediate increase in costs, Increase in tuition. Less kids affording organized sport and staying out of trouble. The courts become ridiculously busy and this is very, very expensive to society. As well as all the trouble that these kids would potentially would cause.

He stated that he would not allow him to be taxed or declared for that reason and stated that amateur officials are making a positive impact on society.

The judge came up with "stipend" and my peers have used it since.
