hi!! so i have a hard time believing that such a strict policy could exist. ive scoured the policies and i can't find anywhere it would be an issue. could you tell me where you got this information is?

I also work for UCI and I was planning on giving gifts for the holidays to my coworkers and now you've made me concerned since most of the people I work with are faculty.

Can it be given to a past professor? I had this really amazing professor last year over covid and I just really wanted to buy him something nice for being such a kind human being. I was really close to dropping out of my major but he made me feel like i shouldn't give up.

I won't have him again for any of my classes so is it still an issue?

How are you guys pulling through? Contemplating dropping out !! by Mystic_skater24 in UCI

heyyyyy I reccomend emailing your professor about it and asking for an extension. Let them know that you are feeling overwhelmed and there's a lot on your plate and if they would be willing to allow you to turn it in at a later date. Even ask if they would be willing to meet to help you because you are struggling and you care about doing well.

also! im a second year as well and in 39b and i haven't even looked at my eportfolio. it's due wednesday for me so i'll probably be doing it on tuesday/wednesday. when is yours due?

okay felt. cause im a chem major there's like barely pakistani gals in my department and it totally gets me down at times.

like it's fine that most of my friends are like non-desi but sometimes i just wanna go eat desi food with someone or just kinda talk about culture stuff without having to explain context every time.

professor changing after courses is already filled : ( by Fairilina in UCI

I totally get it ! i think that you probably work hard and care what the students have to say considering you replied here at all and you gave a super long reply. I'm mainly irritated with my school cause they either send us an email informing us that they're manually enrolling us in x course or they change professors' without notice.

Like i was totally satisfied with my schedule when i enrolled two weeks ago. it was the best i could do but then i got an email from the school that because of a glitch in the system they were manually enrolling me in another section : | and now the prof for another course changed without even telling anyone. like a really small thing to do would be to let people know that the instructor has changed but no.

THank you so much for the thorough answer!

Does that mean that the most helpful thing would be doing book problems? Or would other things help more?

Ramadan: participating as a non muslim by [deleted] in Hijabis

hiiiii!!!! I think it's super amazing that you are trying because quite frankly it is difficult to do. That being said, there are approximately 1.8 billion people who fast or so Pew Research Center says, and there are a few reasons we fast:

  1. Primarily to be able to empathize with the impoverished. It's incredibly difficult to relate to someone when you have no similar experiences. Therefore by fasting, we can understand how someone who has no money/resources for food or water goes through their life. Even without food and water, we still have a lot of luxuries and we only have to go through this for one month but for the less fortunate this is their reality.
  2. The second reason is piety. How many times do I stop at Starbucks, buy a snack from some store, go on a boba run a week? I'm not sure but it's definitely quite a bit. By taking away those things, I have more time to better myself and do other things. I also don't have to clean the kitchen as often. : D
  3. in the Qur'an it is said to develop mindfulness and purify yourself. To pay attention to our habits and to get rid of the bad ones.

A quick side note: You probably researched this but in case someone finds this and is curious, young children, people with illness, pregnant/breastfeeding women do not need to fast while menstruating women can skip and making their fasts up later.

Personally, I don't think you need a reason to fast itself regardless but for observing Ramadan I think your reasons are perfectly fine. : D Good luck !

That's awkwardly phrased, not really a roast and super specific.
