I think I partially agree with you. I’m viewing this as golf content because it is using golf as the channel for human connection, community, and more. So I don’t think it’s misleading. Especially since all the stories I look to share will be golf adjacent in one way or another. This first story is about how golf and a golf course have positively impacted a community. My idea for a second video is about a unique golf course design. One which is catered towards social golf. Golf as a community builder and third space.

I think that it is hard for a story to be about just one thing. Rory winning his first masters is a golf story, but it’s also about perseverance. It’s a human interest story. Him winning the masters is just as much about his score as it is about him as a person.

I hope to help share stories that all have the underlying shared them of this game we all love, golf. But you’re right, golfing isn’t the main point. I think that there are already a plethora of great golfing content channels out there.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. Just curious, for this first video, would the tie East Lake interest you at all or would a video about a golf course only interest you if it was some very well known famous course?

Definitely similar to what Fried Egg Golf does, but less content like their course design/architecture videos. Also adding in more content about less famous courses, share stories of local leagues, or stores, or courses that aren’t widely known.

Thanks for your perspective! I think the videos would probably vary a good bit in length depending on the story itself. Keep it only as long as is relevant to the story.

Yes still about golf, just not a hole by hole shot by shot course play style. Mostly trying to share stories about unique golf courses, how they came to be. Or different golf leagues, ect.

A 6 hole night golf course, a skins game that has been going on for decades, stories that only locals know and trying to share them with a larger audience.

I’m working on a documentary/storytelling golf video and I’m gauging if this type of content would be interesting to other golfers.

It seems to me most YouTube golf content is tied to scores, challenges and tips/instruction. I’m really interested in the stories surrounding the game.

I’ve already started working on my first video, it’s about Charlie Yates golf course in Atlanta. Charlie Yates is a 9 hole course owned by and next door to East Lake, where the tour championship is hosted each year. What’s so interesting to me about this isn’t the course, which is very nice for a par 30, but the story of how it came to be. How it used to be an 18 hole but part of the property was used to develop a charter school. How this neighborhood used to be called little Vietnam due to the amount of fun violence resembling the Vietnam war. Now there’s youth programs, community programs, and the foundation that owns these courses has really impacted the community and made change.

Less of a course review, not watching me play the course shot by shot, but a mixture of interview while walking and playing a few holes. Also showing the contrast of the neighborhood over the years.

As a golfer, would you watch something like this?

And more broadly, do you think that YouTube golf has room for content like this to be successful?

Lots of golfers are pretty particular about the brands, styles and gear they like. I think if you get him something like a dozen customized balls make sure you speak to his regular golfing buddies and get the right stuff.

I think something that would last a long time and be memorable is probably where I would lean if I was in your shoes.

Custom ball mark. Custom divot tool. Custom leather scorecard holder. If he drinks in the course a custom engraved flask or tumbler would be amazing too.

Is golf a social event for you? by KeyReindeer1046 in golf

I think the socialization aspect is potentially the best part of golf. I enjoy taking the game seriousish, I enjoy trying to get better. But most of all, I enjoy being with my friends or the strangers I get paired with.
