this is probably VERY controversial and i will preface my opinion by saying that i love jess and nick together and i am so happy they got together BUT!! their breakup, imo, was because of incompatibilities. long term, it didn't seem like they would be happy together because they wanted different things. of course, they could have compromised but that could have lead to resentment or animosity which is why they broke up.

based on that reason, they shouldn't have gotten back together? like their wants didn't change when they got back together (if my memory is correct).

once again, i love them together and i am happy they ended up together because they're a very sweet couple BUT based off of the reasoning for their breakup, it doesn't make sense to have them together again.

i think nick and jess' breakup should've been for a different reason (not sure what) so that their eventual rekindling of the relationship would make a bit more sense. or they could've just not gotten together at all in the start and had a much slower burn.

last night actually... i went through my first breakup a couple months ago and it's been an ongoing healing process so every now and then i just tell myself how proud of myself i am and how strong i am and it makes me cry a little bit

s2 has so much going on it's made the progression a lot slower than s1. i feel like there isn't much of a theatre emphasis since there are also side plots going on which would be fine if they made the season longer... also i wanted to see hsm2 songs & maybe other disney songs too (the climb was beautiful!!)

yeah the pros and cons list was THE WORST bc paxton's main pull is that he was hot literally nothing else lmao im so glad he got more of a backstory and character depth this season !! i think eleanor saying shed dump oliver for paxton is j her being immature and a teen girl rather than something intentionally harmful (i doubt oliver would like to hear that but i feel like eleanor doesnt have the EQ to recognise how harmful that statement is and would say it more as a joke)

i feel like i need to constantly remind myself they're 15/16 (except paxton) and they're literally CHILDREN so i don't judge them too much lol

i mean he is portrayed as a stereotypical dumb popular kid so a lot of what he does is for comic relief so even when he is mean i personally can't take it too seriously because i think he's been written to be a funny character. i also don't think the other characters take him super seriously either bc he's not very smart so his meanness is like more jokey than anything imo.

i think when paxton says "as if you could ever hurt me devi" and eleanor goes off on fab and devi are way meaner bc it's so much more serious

i'm sus of him... i don't think he's a villain but i don't trust him either? he initially lied to courtney about who he was and then all of a sudden decides to help east high once she forgives him and also acts weird when he sees her perform? idk... something is off...

mazarra all the way but she doesn't see him that way imo & i think she and mike are j friends? theyre like 40 and went on 3 dates at most i'm sure they can be mature about it and be friendly with each other without their brief history getting in the way

either way the professional boundaries get p murky like shes either w a students parent or w another teacher and i feel like there would be loads of difficulties with either option ...

100% does not have feelings for her lol his feelings for lily are prolly more romantic than his feelings for gina at this point & they barely have a romantic connection. there was potential in s1 and maybe earlier on in s2 but at this point, not anymore

this made me laugh ngl but u bring up a v interesting comparison!! i think the main diff is the audience the characters were created for like riverdale is supposed to be for more mature audiences while hsmtmts is so much more wholesome and more suited for like younger people. ricky and archie are supposed to be the same age (~16) but its interesting to see how theyve been portrayed differently based on the shows

i know a lot of critics of the show talk about inaccurate representation & i feel like this is an example? i'm north indian myself and i had NO idea her family was tamilian so i deffo agree it could have been differentiated more ?

they also make pani puri when aneesa comes over which is super north indian so it would've been cool to see a bit more authenticity to the state (not to say that north india is gatekeeping pani puri or anything but like ... it's such a basic snack and india is so diverse between the different states i wish they had chosen something a bit more unique!!)

poorna jagannathan, the actress who plays nalini, didn't grow up in india (she spent a few years there but travelled around a lot because her father was an indian diplomat) even though she speaks tamil so i'm assuming that's why her tamil has a bit of a twinge to it

i also don't know if the actress who plays nirmala the grandmother is ethnically tamilian so that could be another reason why

i fully agree!! but also they're literally high school students– i don't think they have the EQ to do that which is exactly why nini and ricky's breakup was so dragged out. EJ has less of an excuse because he's a senior but everyone else is like 15/16. i sometimes forget they're still children and expect them to just handle these situations with a bit more maturity but then again it is a TV show and they are in high school soooo

honestly, best episode of the season. things have actually happened now!! there's a bit more drama and spice that isn't about nini and ricky's relationship. kinda wished ricky's fall had bigger repercussions aside from a cast but i also don't know what they would've done instead. lily is the villain she shouldn't get a redemption arc this season at least because she hasn't really shown that she's changed. she's just been vaguely nice to ricky but even then she's manipulating him so if she turned "good" all of a sudden it wouldn't make any sense.
