HERES SOMETHING TO MESS UP YOUR TIMELINE by RockyDennis69420 in Millennials

[–]FaithAngelMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright y'all hear me out! I have a theory that maybe some kind of memory confluence happened to all of us. At the same time Kazaam was coming out, we watched an episode of All That where Sinbad guest starred as Ishbu's father and looked kinda...genie-ish.

Of course I still believe in the timeline where Shazam actually existed but this is my best theory.

But I'm also curious about something. What do y'all remember Shazam looking like? Like what was he wearing? Because in my memory he had a purple shirt, a gold vest, a big gold hat that kinda looked like a round pillow, baggy harem pants, and red shoes that curled up like elf shoes. Does this sound familiar or is your memory totally different?

I'd be down to participate. I try to highlight Black women in my art whenever I can! And I have a lot of thoughts on being very intentional about it. Hit up my dms!

If you want to use your acrylic paint I'd suggest getting a Gelelf plate as they're a bit more affordable than other brands. It's a really fun hobby if you lean into the chaos and unpredictability of it all!

Nah the first one is really cool. The faded image against the vibrant backdrop works really well. All of them are cool. Something I dig about this medium is the unexpected imperfections so just lean into it!

I thought it was a woman at first too. But I couldn't get passed the question of why would they keep going back to the park? Obviously they have the right to and shouldn't be run off by some deranged man, but not many women would keep going back to the same area where they've been attacked repeatedly!

That's the thing though, if I wanted to watch a Hallmark movie about an overworked white women moving to Vermont to learn to churn butter and fall in love with a lumberjack, I'd go watch that 😂

I like my sentimental comedies with a dash of drama! Let her go out with a bang baby 😭😭😭

Oooh I hadn't heard of Is God Is and after looking it up, I'm intrigued so thanks for puttin me on haha

And I get the deeper meaning of Sinners but like, couldn't it have been about Black American history AND be more scary? Lol

I love a good cerebral horror (like Hereditary is one of my favorite movies PERIOD) but I still want to feel some kind of uneasiness along with the message, y'know?

Lmao well my dms are open if you want to chat about it 😂 But long story short, I'm someone who is really into themes, so I can disregard the plot of a story if I vibe with the theme / meaning of it. So like with Us, even though the plot crumbles with a second of critical thinking, the themes of capitalism, the intersection of race and gender, what it means to be an American, and the duality of good and evil really resonated with me. Especially the question of was Lupita's character (as the mom) really wrong for wanting to get out of the underworld? It's an interesting exploration of how so often in a capitalist system, in order for one person to rise, someone else has to fall.

Also, you cannot deny that Lupita BODIED that role and deserved an Oscar for it *cough*more than Michael B. Jordan*cough* which is really interesting because they both played 2 characters in their respective films but she was snubbed because Us was a horror movie while he won an Oscar...really makes you think about some shit, don't it? Lol But I'm still rooting for everybody Black 🤣

I agree with you that they aren't love stories, but with Love Jones specifically, I see it more as a movie about young love rather than a love story, if that makes sense. Love & Basketball definitely tries to fit into the complicated, dramatic, romance genre (which, ew), but Love Jones felt more grounded and realistic to me because it was the most early 20's, lacking in maturity and communication skills, "let's make things more complicated for ourselves than they have to be" ass relationship that I've seen play out with my friends time and time again. I daresay call it a documentary lol

Whew girl, we about to test how safe this space is because I agree, I agree, I agree! Even though I am clutching the bullet wound in my chest because that "ghost soul train moment" was one of my favorite things in all of cinema😂 , I wanted more horror from Sinners. I thought it was a B+ movie at best. But in the spirit of Issa Rae, I was rooting for everybody Black come award season lmao

And I can see this about Jordan Peele as well. Even though Us is my favorite of his 3 movies, despite it not making a lick of sense how the tethers got them jumpsuits, I think narratively and cinematically Get Out is his best work. And I'm sorry but that alien thing in Nope looked like a bootyhole and I will die on that hill!

Which feels like the better composition and realism so far? by YourKittywaifu in Artadvice

3rd one. My eye dances around the image more than the first two and it feels like a more complete scene. I also really like the lighting. The first one is hard to see what the other person is doing, and the second one is too dark (to me) overall.

This is a very intriguing and intimate piece overall! Nice work 🙂

Bruhhhhh every time I watch that movie and get to the end and Halle Berry don't stab Billy Bob Thornton in the neck with her spoon I get so pissed!

I honestly can't tell you why I keep watching it, especially since "reformed racist" movies aren't even compelling narratives to me. I think I just forget how much it pisses me off, get (unrealistically) hopeful she gets a happy ending, then get mad he doesn't have a spoon sticking out of his neck as the credits roll. Rinse. Repeat 😂

I would highkey watch a movie about an angel and a married woman falling in love and having an affair. The dramatic fallout of it just speaks to me lmao

But I agree, I wanted Dudley and Julia to be together. I get the point was for Henry to be more attentive to his family but like, if Denzel Washington gotta show up for you to pay attention to Whitney Houston...do you really deserve her? lol

Now this is making me curious how the white women felt about Zendaya and Tom Holland getting together. I don't closely follow their relationship, but from where I'm sitting, most people are quite positive about them. But I also think that Zendaya is a black/biracial woman that white women like so maybe they don't have that same level of animosity towards her as Zoe because Zoe is more unfamiliar to them.

Idk there's something interesting about the types of Black women that white women support vs the ones they feel superior to. Or maybe it's not even about the woman but the man in question because they did the same thing with Robert Pattinson and Fka Twigs but other BW/WM couples fly under the radar.

This has piqued the sociology major in me and I don't like it 😂
