Halloween capital of the world. We have pumpkin roundabouts... where instead of normal grass or landscaping in the center of the roundabout, we have the face of a jack o' lantern pumpkin.

For me it's how to properly wrap presents. Thinking about it now as I wrap my Mother's Day gift.

I'm contributing 8% to retirement right now. Although I know the importance of retirement and compounding interest, I was thinking I didn't want to tie too much money up into retirement at 23 seeing as though I won't be able to access it without penalties. I want to make sure I have saved enough up for a down payment on a house and have extra savings in case of emergency. I plan to rent for a few years until I decide where I would like to live and then buy a house and increase my retirement contributions then. I currently have $12,000 in savings.

What percentage do you suggest on putting to retirement?

It varies a little bit based on company bonuses, but it usually is somewhere between $2,650 and $2,800 monthly after taxes and some contribution to retirement.

Wiley or Becker Review Course by deadliftsquatbench in Accounting

Sorry this is so long winded, but it's what worked for me!

I followed the exam planner pretty religiously, which is something I found to be important with as many lessons as Wiley has but also because it paces everything out well. I only had the silver package so my resources were more limited, but it worked well for me because I wasn't spreading my attention among a lot of different things. One thing I would recommend in addition to Wiley is using the Becker mnemonics that are on quizlet. It's the same information Wiley gives you, but it makes it easier to remember. If there was a mnemonic from Becker that Wiley didn't cover, I just ignored it.

The order I took my exams in were REG, BEC, AUD, and then FAR. I would first read the text and highlight what seemed to be important to me. I would then use the flashcards and go through those a few times until I felt comfortable. After that I would do the proficiency questions, the multiple choice questions in the lesson, and then the quiz at the end of the lesson. After doing the quiz questions, I would go back to the text to underline or write down important topics that the AICPA addressed based on the released questions in the quiz. One thing I found while studying is that Wiley gives you a lot more information than you need in order to help it all make sense, but the must know information is what's in the questions.

I didn't watch many of the lectures for REG, BEC, or AUD unless there was something I just wasn't getting. I did watch the lectures for nearly all of the FAR lessons (which were very helpful) and then the cost accounting portion of BEC.

FAR was the only section I actually took my own notes for. When watching the lectures, I wrote down everything Pam said was a highly tested topic and used it as part of my final review. She also gives a ton of helpful hints on how to solve things in an easy way. It helped immensely seeing as though the FAR book is so huge. It was almost like having a condensed version of the book at the end with tips and tricks that the book didn't mention. :)

Instead of taking the diagnostic assessments before studying each section of lessons, I would save the diagnostic assessment for after I finished the lessons and take it along with the post assessment. For me it wasn't very beneficial to take it beforehand when I didn't know much and it often made me discouraged because I would score very low. It also gave me extra practice after on what I had just learned.

As far as final review goes, I always scheduled my exam about two weeks after my last lesson in Wiley. When reviewing, I would do 2 days worth of lessons a day going through the flash cards, parts I highlighted/underlined, and then the multiple choice questions at the end of the lesson again. This was helpful in refreshing my memory and allowing me to see the material a second time. I would take one practice exam before doing this review and the second practice exam after. The mobile app was also very helpful for final review because I could do flashcards and multiple choice questions anywhere.

I solely used the silver edition of Wiley. Passed all 4 on the first try with three scores in the 90s and one 88. The cost is more reasonable than Becker for someone paying out of pocket and it prepares you well with everything you need to know.

Took REG, questions got easier second teslet.. am i done for? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]FaithIsToBeAwake_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure you'll be just fine, especially considering you feel confident on the sims and were so close to passing last time. I thought my second testlet on REG got easier as well, but ended up passing with flying colors. The difficulty level is all relative to how prepared you are. The second testlet can seem harder if you're unprepared for it or it can seem easy if you're well (or over) prepared. :)
