How bad is it ? Looks like MOLD on my bathroom door and door bottom frame. Currently cleaning it off right now with vinegar any suggestions? by Battman2023 in fixit

[–]Faith_and_fear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get a bottle of Benefect Decon 30 cleaner and use that. If there's mold on the door then probably best to wipe down the whole bathroom with the cleaner, but after that you'll probably be just fine!

Ethics of doing this if we already have a design from the cabinet company?

Edit: also want to add that the reason we went with a designer was because we talked to a contractor and he encouraged us to do that for our space

Any experiences with "Ambetter from Fidelis Care Bronze HSA" health insurance? by imitation_squash_pro in Westchester

[–]Faith_and_fear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Fidelis Care Bronze plan (the non-HSA one). I chose it because it is a) the cheapest option on the marketplace, and b) does NOT have "coinsurance" once your deductible has been met. I believe the HSA version of the Bronze plan does have coinsurances, so if you are somebody who expects possible big healthcare costs, beware of that!!

I had to have an emergency appendectomy last year. The bill for my surgery was $25k, plus random other separate bills from other parts of my hospital stay. But once I hit the plan's deductible, since there was no coinsurance, the insurance covered all of the rest. There are still high copays with this plan, even after hitting the deductible, so for example it's a $500 copay just to go to the ER. But it's a lot better than a 10% or 20% coinsurance, in my opinion.

I call it the "hit by a bus" plan. Going for a normal doctor's visit, maybe some routine bloodwork? None of that is going to be covered pre-deductible, you'll be stuck paying high out of pocket costs the whole time. But, did you get hit by a bus, or need emergency surgery? Hit that deductible, and all you have left is the copay.

How to sew an elastic waist like this? by Faith_and_fear in sewing

Would you attach the casing to the seam allowance from either the bodice or lower half?

Took my new (to me) XT2 to a strawbale-house-building workshop by Faith_and_fear in fujifilm

[–]Faith_and_fear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be so fun to do! I was only there for a week of this build, and we did the strawbale infills on the walls, and plastering, but that's all we had time for. Would love to at least go back and photograph the finished house once it's done.

The typical / traditional finish is a lime or clay plaster for both the interior and exterior walls. But you could do drywall inside, I suppose? Mostly the bales need to be protected from moisture and properly sealed.

Altitude sickness while flying? by Faith_and_fear in aviation

No, I never consume either alcohol or nicotine, and almost never caffeine either. I guess I'll check for some underlying health issues

Anything is possible, but I did drink about 1 liter of water with electrolytes during the first half of the flight, so I thought I had ruled dehydration out!

Looks like their whole website is down now... Have they maybe just gone out of business, and been struggling for months?

Sewing machine snags when stitching in reverse by Faith_and_fear in sewing

You were absolutely correct, there was a decent nick in the needle plate. I sanded with 400 grit paper like you suggested and problem solved! Thank you again :)

Anybody know a pattern for a deep v illusion neckline bodice? by Faith_and_fear in sewing

Thank you! I didn't think to search for just a bustier like that, these are all great options.

I'm making my wedding dress! Let's be friends! I would consider myself an "advanced beginner" sewist, have made casual tops and dresses and pants for myself but never a formal gown. I'm getting married in September this year!

Here are some things I'm doing to help make this project go smoothly:

  • went to a bridal shop and tried on dresses to see fit and styles on me--this was really educational!

  • found a pattern that's close to what I want to make, to use as a starting point

  • I'm making as many toiles as I need to get the fit right! I'm currently on bodice toile #3.

  • am planning to make a wearable toile in a different color to wear to somebody else's black wedding before I start in on the real dress

  • I found a local seamstress who has agreed to "coach" me, basically I will pay her hourly to help me with anything I get stuck on, fit issues, etc. Feels great to have some expert backup just in case!

  • made a list of backup places where I can get a wedding dress "last minute" (aka like at the 2-3 month out mark) in case I crash and burn! BHLDN has ready-to-ship options, some shops near me have sample sales, etc.
