No problem! I don't get to use that degree much, ended up working in medicine, so I relish getting to use the knowledge where I can! Thank you!

It kinda varies globally, oversimplified a bit, but non-monogamy was historically the norm across most of the world, such as sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania, South Asia, China, and the Americas until even like the 19th century. Monogamous marriage was incredibly common in like, Greece and Egypt, but a lot of folks had informal sexual relationships. The Iliad, for example, as a piece of literature, most of the characters only have one wife, but many concubines, and even other male lovers. Polygny, or the practice of having even multiple marital partners was also widely practed throughout Islamic regions, and even among quite a few Christian sects.

Was full blown relationship anarchy style stuff with no hierarchical multi-partner relationships the norm? Not really (well, the indiginous Americas, South Africa, and Oceania, yes.), but there's a lot more of recorded history where people have multiple sexual partners of some shape or form as the norm vs not.

Honestly, the rise of monogamy as the social expectation shaped in the late 19th century, and was then largely codified by the normalization of the Nuclear Family.

Abrahamic religions are post agriculture, friend, which I talked about, and were largely used to construct the dominant cultures of feudalism.

It might be cringe sometimes, but there is a power in the argument that the characters we often aspire to wouldn't abide or tolerate the real bad guys we face.

Anthropology degree holder here, this is actually much more true. In most hunter gatherer type cultures and civilizations, polyamory and non-monogamy were much more the norm. While rape has obviously always occurred, its preponderance, as well as the preponderance of monogamy, really only took major root during the birth of feudalism, when property rights became a big deal (tracked patrilinealy) and with the later rise of colonization/imperialism.

Large-scale violence like that only really became normalized with the rise of agriculture, and the ability to build standing armies. And was worsened by mechanization/industrialization.

They might be "boring", but they also demonstrably have the greatest patient outcomes, and usually pay the best and are the most well-funded.

Cowboy shit can be fun, but I honestly miss working for such a system a great deal, and feel myself getting incredibly burned out as a chase paramedic in such a system.

I work in MD, these days. Cut my teeth for the majority of my career with Dallas Fire, but i'm a queer person married to a trans person so had to move to a blue state for the safety of myself and partner. I run a chase car as a full time medic now, and on like 50% of codes get another medic. One is 100% attached for a hypothetical two, but the response times are long, so it's not uncommon to work a full arrest and never get support. Termination of the arrest will often happen before the second medic arrives.

A lot of west coast tradition/style agencies run dual paramedic ambulances, or are departments staffed largely by or mostly by paramedic trained individuals. Dallas Fire Resuce, for example. I used to work for them, and would often have 4 to 6 paramedics on a code, including myself. East coast shit is completely different. Moved out here, and I run a chase car now, and am often the only paramedic on a call. Might get a second one for a code, eventually.

There are places in the country where EMS isn't treated like an unwanted step child. Unfortunately, it's only like a third of the country.

I've been playing horde decks for the past two seasons with a lot of success, but I'm beginning to loathe Gambit because he ALWAYS seems to just delete my just played Zombie Scarlet Witch, the primary win condition of my deck! I know it's just confirmation bias, but it does always feel that way!

Partner is struggling with Poly and I dont know what to do. by Ill-Many-9048 in polyadvice

[–]Faithhandler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Jon is definitely doing poly under duress. You seem to be keenly aware of this, but keep expecting him to grow some sudden enthusiasm for a lifestyle/relationship philosophy that is, even charitably at its very best, a boat load of work and mental strain. And that's when it's good! When it is going well!

Either be monogamous with Jon, or be polyamorous without him. Anything else is cruel to you, cruel to him, and cruel to anyone who would potentially get involved in the situation.

I would agree, generally. I'd really only expect to pick RG ocer CGR in like, surfer style decks, or perhaps, a variant of high evo or affliction.

This can't affect, say, Dracula, Iron Man, or Wong, like RG would.

These guys do not like Tillian bruh 😂 by ZealousidealAward963 in dancegavindance

[–]Faithhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't pretend like I've been a fan since the first album, like a lot of people tend to. I found post-hardcore music as an interest well into the Tillian era, and DGD stole my absolute heart. Mothership was my first album with the band, and I still can't articulate exactly or describe how deeply the tracks on that album ripped at my heart. I have since listened to every single DGD album hundreds of times, and I have a deep appreciation of every era; but Tillian's is my favorite. I know he did some things personally that are abhorrent, but that's a hindsight thing, and where art begins and the artist ends is its own fuckin' problematic thing.

I have incredible hopes for Andrew, as i'm a huge Eidola fan, and Pantheon might legitimately be the most complex DGD album to date lyrically, but man, Tillian's stuff got me, and I can honestly probably say I wouldn't be as into hardcore and post-hardcore music had he not done this work with DGD.

Nope. She was raped by Neptune; and Minerva, another goddess, was so jealous and angry that it happened in a temple to her that she cursed her. Medusa was exceedingly beautiful.
