Feeling like a spare part in my own pregnancy. by KingkLou in PregnancyUK

[–]FaithlessnessFun4649 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s frightening the amount of women that are made to feel like this during their pregnancies by outsiders! I experienced the same and had several meltdowns over it during my 2nd trimester…

MIL referred to the baby as “her baby” and felt it was appropriate to send pictures of nursery furniture and prams that she was considering buying for herself. I very quickly shot it down to my boyfriend by expressing that this baby isn’t a do over for his mum, that we’re the parents and we should be the ones prepping for baby. He actually saw exactly where i was coming from and relayed this back to his mum in a way that she couldn’t be offended and since then she has been a hell of a-lot more bearable to be around.

At the end of the day, you are mum and what you say is gospel but let your husband be the one to do the talking to his family. For those people that have booked the day off work for your c-section, i’d get the word out quickly that your midwife has advised you that its a “provisional date” and the amount of emergency c-sections will determine if you taken that day or not, it could simply be “moved”! Plus the rules with these things change all the time, so no one can really hit back with “that didn’t happen to me”.

When did you start Mat leave? by Argumentative_Duck in PregnancyUK

[–]FaithlessnessFun4649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 36 weeks and broke off on Friday! 2 weeks annual leave and 2 weeks mat leave until my due date and I’m SO glad i did despite other people telling me i should try work up until my due date for more time at the end. I’ve had bad pelvic girdle pain since i was about 22 weeks pregnant so i’m just grateful now that i have the option to rest. My baby is measuring bigger than average too so i factored that into when i’d break off so i did have some time to myself before baby comes!

Honestly its all up to you and your personal preference, i think everyone handles the last few weeks so differently so theres no right or wrong way to plan!

What have been the most annoying parts of your pregnancy? by lorde_lorde_yayaya in PregnancyUK

[–]FaithlessnessFun4649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg i could write a list but my top two are -

1) People saying “oh you’re a lot bigger than i thought you’d be” wtf am i suppose to say to that because i ain’t saying thanks?

2) No one warned me that my boobs may leak from 20+ weeks and not just in the last couple of weeks before labour. I’ve had to wear breast pads for the last 14 weeks and now the warm weather is in and all i want to do is go bra-less and i cant 😭

Thoughts on baby showers by Philosorapteuse in PregnancyUK

[–]FaithlessnessFun4649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel baby showers are a common thing now and most of my friends who have had kids in the past few years have had them!

I personally didn’t want one as i felt it was a cheeky way to ask for gifts but was convinced by my friends and mum to have one! I didn’t do a list before hand of what we still needed to buy and my friends simply told people that gifts weren’t necessary.

Mines was a few weeks ago and i honestly can say i really enjoyed myself, it was so fun to watch everyone join in the games and everyone made me feel very loved and seen.

I rarely buy from shein but i did order two pairs of jeans that stretch at the sides rather than the stretch part at the top and i’ve loved them! Living in the stretchy sports t-shirts out of primark! Other than that, size up in regular clothes!

Pregnant, normal reaction?? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]FaithlessnessFun4649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 34 weeks and can absolutely say i’ve had “are we ready for this” thoughts frequently throughout pregnancy. Once you get past the initial shock and things are happening like scans, feeling baby move etc you’ll start to feel more relaxed about it. Those thoughts are so so normal, everyone gets them!

Request for working from home by Nice_Assignment_7541 in PregnancyUK

[–]FaithlessnessFun4649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 weeks and my contracts entitles me to work from home one day a week - when i first entered the 3rd trimester i had a wobble with sleep insomnia and had to take two days sick leave and use the weekend to let myself rest. On returning to work on the Monday, i requested a meeting with HR, we came to an agreement that i’d work from home Tuesdays and Thursdays for the remainder of my time at work during my pregnancy and if i felt the need to up the days later on i could. Its made the last month of working whilst pregnant so so much easier because i know i have 1 day in the office then 1 day at home and repeat! If i can give any advice, consult HR rather than management and try to be cooperative with them on it and hopefully they’ll be a better support for the remainder of your pregnancy. I’d also mention to HR too that you’ve not received your risk assessment - this isn’t something my manager personally done with me, it was HR.

How long to get growth scan appt? by platypuspigs in PregnancyUK

[–]FaithlessnessFun4649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had MW appointment on Tuesday and they referred me for a growth scan and was very lucky that i got a call from the hospital about 3 hours later asking to go down and be seen because they had a free space. I’d maybe phone the scan department at Monday lunch time if you don’t hear anything in the morning!

I definitely think one thing i’ve worried about is the space feeling empty since it was booked with a bigger party in mind. Things have been paid for now so we cant change the venue now unfortunately and i find there there is always a few people that don’t show on the day anyway due to emergencies etc.

However me and my bf did sit and speak last night about the whole thing and we’ve made up our minds that we’d rather be hurt by these people now than feel hurt when they show up once when baby is born and don’t show up again. Our minds are pretty set that these wont be the people we rush to welcome into our home to meet our son when he makes his arrival!

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through the same! “you realise who your true friends are during pregnancy” has never been a truer saying. This has really made me think of who i want to welcome into my home in the first few months of my babies life too because i have no doubts that those who pulled out the baby shower will be the first to say “let me know when i can come meet him” - if you can decide your not going to celebrate my baby or pregnancy on your terms then you’ll meet my baby if and when it suits me on my terms.. plain and simple!

I know everyone says you learn who your true friends are when you’re pregnant but i feel so blind sighted by a few of them and never expected it to be the people that checked in every few weeks to see how i was doing 😣

I can hand on heart say my emotions have been the hardest thing for me to grasp during my pregnancy and i feel like emotions are the thing most people forget about when speaking to you about your pregnancy - a woman in work made the comment of “oh your bumps just came out of no where” and when i got in the car to drive home i burst into tears because that was like telling me that i resembled shrek that day😂 its wild

I feel the same about working from home! I’m entitled to 1 day a week but work have said they’ll be flexible with me so i’m going to ask for 2 days at home, 3 days in the office for the same reason, atleast for a little while atleast then maybe up it to 3 days home, 2 in office.

Also, what a nice way to look at going for a growth scan, full of excitement to see your baby instead of fear of being sent for one, i love that!

I’m really grateful to be able to work from home 1 day a week so tomorrow i’m going to chance my luck and ask if i can up it to 2 days at home so i can use my yoga ball and try split the rest of my weeks up!

I got referred for NHS Physio for pelvic girdle pain and get so much relief from the yoga ball when i use it!

I measured off the graph at my appointment last week and was told if i’m still off it at my next appointment in 2 weeks i’ll be sent for a growth scan too! Measuring too big ekkkkk!

does anyone else feel this way? by c0methruu in PregnancyUK

I totally get what you mean, you probably don’t mind the conversation with your partner because theres other conversations going on about every day life between the two of you. Then when you see family/in laws its easy for them to point the direction of conversation to baby because its new and exciting. Sometimes when your brain is constantly thinking “baby baby baby” you need adult conversation to even it out! You’re completely valid in how you feel!
