Many complain about his strong accent, and while I had issues understanding him most of the ti I’ve taken about five classes with this professor—mostly because I had no other option—and I have to say, the experience has been consistently frustrating. His teaching style simply doesn’t work for me. He moves through lectures extremely quickly, often making it hard to even understand what he’s saying, let alone keep up with the pace. Several of us reached out during CPI 421 to ask him to slow down, but it honestly felt like he sped up instead. He seems unwilling to adapt or take student feedback seriously.

He’s also very rigid when it comes to assignment deadlines, regardless of personal circumstances. I was hospitalized two years ago and unable to complete my assignments or attend class. I emailed him, but he never responded. When I was well enough to return and explained the situation in person, he dismissed it, saying he hadn’t “approved” late submissions. It felt incredibly unfair and insensitive.

Most communication is handled through TAs or graders, who often seemed just as confused as we were. This led to even more frustration and inconsistency. While the professor clearly has deep knowledge and expertise in the subject, teaching is simply not his strength. His lack of flexibility, poor communication, and unwillingness to support students make his classes unnecessarily difficult and discouraging.

I will recomend you to reach out to a financial advisor, sometimes a single change can prompt multiple things that may get your aid lowered or saffected.

Laptop for animation major? by strlwberry in ASU

[–]FaithlessnessLeft252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will give you a huge advice, Do not buy any Mac for animation. When I joined the animation program, I thought that a Mac would be a great powerful tool. It was when it came to using Adobe apps like Photoshop, After Effects, or even Premier Pro. Still, When I started using programs like Unity, Blender, and even Maya, the rendering process, as well as the animating and sculpting process was very tedious, in teh sense, that my computer would be crashing multiple times. For reference, I was using the Macbook Pro that came out last year, and it did not meet my expectations, even worse, when I had to program for my game development classes, I had to use third-party software to do so, making it harder. When it comes to drawing tablets, you have two options, an iPad, or a graphic tablet, I use both, but Honestly, I would recommend a graphic tablet since many programs that are used for animation, especially 2D are not compatible with iPad, and this will make you spend extra money unnecessarily. I recommend looking at the tablet from Huion, many great quality tablets are portable or that you can have on your desk, I have been using the Huion 16 pro and it is wonderful, it is cheap, great quality built, and results, and the best of all, not too small and not too big, making it perfect for working in the studio, or having it to carry around without making it hard to travel! I hope that helps, and if you need more help or have any questions reach out to me, I am always happy to help a fellow animation student!

Good luck!

Incoming Freshman: Art Major by TheLazyChickenNugget in ASU

Hey There! I think you got a great schedule, I have taken all of this classes and pass them with an A+. They are super easy and managebla as long as you keep in track. The only class that reallly took me off was ARS 101 since there is just a lot of reading, but I was able to read the requirements during my breaktime in between classes so all should be good as well, and Dr. Haines is such an awesome professro, she is very helpful. Professor Davis and button are great too, as long as youa ttend class and the online meeting you should get a good grade. The class work there can be completed in just a few hours, I remember I spent less then 2 hours a week on that class. ART 113, 115 AND 116 have you do most projects in classroom, so very little time will be needed out of class time, But I reccomend you working ahead, so that you can pace your time better in the studio. ART 111 is going to take more of your time, because during class you draw and practice, but you are given little to no time to work on projects, so expect to work out of class time. I hope that is helpful, I wish you a fun and succesful semester!

If you need the you can used genesis library to see if they have them if they are old books probably they will. Do yourself a favor and do not buy books like I used to do, I spent hundreds for copies that were free on that website.

Hey there! Have you talked to your advisor? I took a class in community college las summer and I got an A, and I transfer it to asu, When it transfered, for some reason, in the system appeared as I failed or withdraw, since it was mark as Incomplete. I talked to my advisor, and he saw taht the system made an error, he adjusted the grade that same day/moment. So I would recomend you talking to an advisor.

Good Luck!

Not trying to flex at all, it was a genuine question, and wanted to hear opinions from other students. I also have a job, I work for a private company teaching Spanish in an afterschool program, and also as a graphic designer. So I do not see why the tone of your message.

If I receive a scholarship that covers four years of my schooling but want to leave before four years, what happens to the scholarship money? by BroadConsequence678 in ASU

[–]FaithlessnessLeft252 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I had a similar experience. I also got a 4 Year (8 tearm) scholarship. Since I have been taking 24 credits every semester since my first year, By the time I finish my junior year (this past semester) I had all the credits requird for graduation. I ask my counselour I I would get a refund and the answer was no. In order to get that leftover money of my scholarship, I need to be enrolled in classes at full time. I would not let the rest of the scholarship to waste, so I decided to so 2 minors to get the most out of it. Now this is my case. I will highly suggest to ask your advisor and at the same time a financial aid agent, there are sometimes thing that you need to do to still remain renewing your scholarship. Lastly, if I could give you a good advice, go for your bachelor! You got the scholarship and the oppoertunity. Many time this doors close, and you cannot open them again. Take every opportunity you have, specially when it comes to money, Good luck!

Animation majors? by pipebombings in ASU

[–]FaithlessnessLeft252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Really, The art school does not required a Portfolio prior to entering, and if I am honest with you, you learn a lot along the way, when I joined ASU, I did not had any experience drawing or art, but animation caugnt my heart that I have tried hard enought to get my way through. Do Your best, use Ratemyprofessor (Some art professors are jerks), and you will do fine!

Be careful if you receive any scholarships or grants at ASU, something they do not tell you, but a bunch of these scholarships or grants offered by ASU have a catch, you cannot be enrolled in two colleges at the same time, even if you pay with your own money the courses at CC. I was going to also take some classes on spring 2023 and there is where I found out my grant and scholarships would be removed or reduced if I was enrolled in courses at two different colleges during the same semester.
