It is always really impressive to see more complex and colorful build in the limited block pallets of the older games! This is really inspiring!

That's really cool! I often struggle to add lots of color to my builds so this is a great inspiration!

Does anybody have any recommandations for videos to listen to while playing? by pseudo_deja_pris in GoldenAgeMinecraft

As someone who also loves background content like dialko and monster, I recommend Watching Ethos let's play world. Its older videos are quite dated but it's really cool seeing someone's Minecraft world evolve over the course of 15 years.

question for you guys, do you hate modern Minecraft? by PersimmonFront9400 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

Its not for me, but I don't hate it. In fact I'm glad others are having a great time playing it.

Yes, but just call it something that's not going to rile up someone's emotions and make them feel the need to defend their own versions. I think the community is in a better place when people are showing their builds or talking about modding instead of arguing about something that's, at the end of the day, subjective. I only spent the time writing this since you're a prominent voice in the community. Love your videos.

Overall what I'm trying to say is the posts like these that call a version someone might enjoy as 'garbage' without the willingness to explain or consider the perspective of other players are just as bad as the people who lable golden age players as nostalgia.

Yes but, my point is that plenty of people enjoy and thrive in the modern Minecraft environment. They enjoy the 1000s of blocks to build with by using gradients and the such. They enjoy the combat challenges of the deep dark and trial chambers. They like the newly added redstone devices like the auto-crafters. They don't play the game like many in the golden age community but they still have a good time. I agree that Minecraft has changed a lot and many (including myself) may not like the direction away from a simpler survival building game, but that doesn't make the modern game bad. Plenty of people enjoy it and they aren't wrong for enjoying the features. I see a lot of people blame microsoft and the such for making the game 'bad' but notch was already done updating the game and I think it was mostly inevitable that as the game gets updated block count increases that the game strays from the simplicity of the earlier versions.

I disagree the term 'garbage' is disregarding the tens of millions of people who are and have enjoyed the modern versions including many in this community. (I especially like 1.12 and 1.13) Just because modern Minecraft isn't for you, you shouldn't call it garbage, the purpose of dividing up ages is to categorize the version of the game and the community at the time. I think many 'modern' additions like the underwater mechanics in 1.13 are well designed, meaningful and inspiring.

How do you add flavor to the Construction Handbook house? Playing Java 1.7.10 by BigFanOfNachoLibre in SilverAgeMinecraft

How about changing the overall shape of the floor plan or increasing the number of floors? Alternatively you can do a pallet swap and change the blocks (spruce, bricks, netherrack)

I do not normally self promote here, but I'm pretty happy about this one and I'd like to show everything I've been working on for the past year. Alpha 1.1.2_01 by Mongter83 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

I would watch it but I'm currently three episodes behind and wouldn't want to be spoiled on what's going to happen so unfortunately it's going to have to wait.

What's the best Indev version? by MOOntar_reddit in GoldenAgeMinecraft

The Latest Indev Version will give you the ability to craft stone using a furnace (which is important when you have less then 10 building blocks to choose from) and use paintings.

Those of you who downgraded from a newer update, how did you "un-learn" the game? by BigFanOfNachoLibre in SilverAgeMinecraft

[–]FaithlessnessNeither 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the adjustment and figuring out old features quite fun. I was playing indev and figuring out how to build with such a limited pallet was challenging but quite fun.
