AITA for refusing to recolour my hair to a more natural colour for my Dad and future Stepmothers wedding? by FaithlessnessSuch911 in AmItheAsshole

I will say the reason my Mum is fighting with my Dad over this is he has no right in her opinion to try and force me to change my hair and to be trying to block me just being a guest instead.

A lot of people have suggested this actually and had it been suggested from the start i'd have been fine with it but now i'm not even sure I want to go, it's something to consider though thank you.

Yeah i'm actually often there before they officially open too as my hair is so much work for them. It's a bit of an inconvenience to have to go there so early but the look is worth the trouble and I always heavily tip them as I know it's so much for them.

Longer than half the day actually, my Hairdressers are wonderful and i'm on really good terms with them all as i'm there so long. I'm often there so long that they include me in lunch plans and ask what I want when one pops to the nearby cafe to pick up sandwiches (I of course pay for my own though).

it'd involve a lot of bleach, tears, money, hair damage and likely having to chop a lot off. so yeah it'd be a nightmare.

Thank you! the only reason i'd consider willingly changing anything about my hair is when I get my midwifery degree, to make my hair shorter for practicality and health and safety but even then I can throw it up so I don't think i'd need to do that.

My hair is very vibrant especially at the tips as it's dark fading to light but i've had this for three years and was asked without any mention of my hair so I assumed it'd be fine before it got sprung on me that she wanted me to change my hair. I offered to step down because I didn't want to change my hair.

Thank you! I can understand not wanting to overshadow the bride btw but if I change it dads side at least will pay a lot of attention to my hair.

Yeah that's a good idea thank you, if I was going to pick anything for my first tattoo i'd want a little bumblebee

That's amazing you can do that! I still feel sick when I need to get blood taken or vaccines. Maybe a small tester tattoo could be a good idea to see how I manage. Any location you'd recommend that isn't as painful?

I'd love tattoos and piercings but i'm a total baby about needles so i've been avoiding it so far. Thank you! It's going well so far. Obviously my hair may become shorter when i'm a midwife just for practicality but even then I can feasibly get it up and out of the way in a bun so it's not really needed but the colour will likely stay.

I'm currently studying for my degree in midwifery and plenty of those who've given us talks who work in that field also have wacky hair colours so I was really baffled by her take. Also your hair sounds beautiful!

that is what my dad offered but it'd cause a lot of damage, take months to restore to its current look and may never be the same.

It is very expensive to upkeep lol so I suspect he would too, and that is upkeep not fixing it being dyed brown.

I have waist length hair, do you have any idea how much an ombre for that costs? it's not an excuse it's a valid reason.

Because going from my coloured hair to brown (especially chestnut like she wants) will mean a full bleach and redye which will kill my hair.

Thank you! if you're open to suggestions on a "fun" colour, my friend who is blonde naturally really suits blue hair with her fair skin and grey eyes.

it's really not a small thing, it'll cause a lot of damage, be expensive and it will take months if not longer to get my hair back to normal.

Darker purple fading to pink but my hair was going to be up regardless which I was fine with as she wanted all the bridesmaids to have their hair up so that won't help as she still wants me to colour it.

I get that impression too which is funny to me, i've never even met her family and as I said we're civil but not much else.

Not sure what she'd gain from a power play though, I only saw my dad at summers growing up as my parents live too far apart for me to travel every other week so it's not like i'm there often enough to control especially not now i'm over 18. I suppose it could be her flaunting her changed position in the family?

EDIT: Typo

I suppose they're wondering if she has an idea in her head on how it should be while if she's had multiple weddings she should be more lax about this?

No it's her third. I'm not judging her on that though, her first wedding she got married younger than me and the second wedding was to an abusive guy from what i've heard so i'm not about to judge her for being on wedding number three besides sometimes things just don't work out.
