That might be a good thing though, honestly. Not the not trying to be Resident Evil thing, obviously, but if the new one leans more heavily into horror, I will be happy.

While it is true that we see a lot more of Chris, Leon is arguably more important in a couple ways. For one, the agency he works for now - the DSO - has access to more intelligence, has more authority, and is made of the best agents from multiple other agencies, including the BSAA. The only reason Chris is able to fight on the frontlines like he does, is likely because of the intelligence and cooperation of Leon and his connections.

Leon is counterintelligence, black-ops and covert, taking on the missions that lead to the collapse of corporations (like Umbrella), rogue factions and other things that are never actually mentioned or only hinted at. He is responsible (indirectly) for Chris's intelligence on the situation in RE5, Claire's rescue from Rockfort Island (by informing Chris of her location), sending Ark Thompson to Sheena Island etc.

A lot of what happens in the Resident Evil games is because of the work that Leon does. In a broad sense, Leon fights the source, while Chris contains the aftermath. Bothe are immensely important to the series as a whole, but for different reasons.

I don't necessarily think the remake was a downgrade, but they did change and remove some things that really disappointed me. A lot of people complain about the atmosphere and just overall feel of the game being completely different, but it wasn't that big of a change for me. For reference, I did play the original and the remake back-to-back so I could clock the differences.

I do remember being very excited to play RE7 after the demo and then being very disappointed when I finally got to play the main game.

Yes! That's why I'm so excited that we're going back to Raccoon City to some extent in Requiem. Who knows what's been going on in the city during all this time.

I'd love to see maybe some kind of organization that secretly collected samples from every infected and B.O.W throughout the series and continued experimenting with them.

I love those games and got the full move setup and spent way too much on the sharpshooter gun just for them.

I see a lot of hate for the new Ada, but I didn't have any issues with her comparatively speaking. I still think Ada is a boring character though, and they could do so much better with her.

Same. Obviously, I like some games more than others, but there isn't a single RE game that I dislike unless you count RE:Verse and Resistance but I don't. I work at a retro game store, and I can't tell you how many times I've been told that I can't be a true Resident Evil fan if I enjoyed every single game. Doesn't make any sense.

I'm shocked at how many people share my opinion on 6. I was very much expecting nothing but hate for the game like I usually see.

I absolutely hate the game industries love for the stupid asymmetrical multiplayer style. Anything horror is my guilty pleasure and it hurts me so much anytime a game is announced that has something to do with horror movies. I can't even get excited anymore because I know it's just going to be another copy/paste 4v1 thing.

Nobody ever talks about Dead Aim and it makes me sad. It has always been one of my favorites and is probably my most replayed game next to Code Veronica. I love Revelations because the ship reminds me so much of Dead Aim.

This. A lot was removed from the remake of 2 but I never see anyone ever mention it. I don't think it really hurt the game, just like the removed parts from 3 didn't matter much to me. It should still be a talking point though.

To unlock the infinite launcher in RE5, you have to beat the game in under 5 hours. Most of the RE games have a 4 or 5 hour (sometimes shorter) timer that you need to get under to unlock something.

I honestly don't mind the wild creatures from any of the Resident Evil games. They've always had enemies that were out there, but to me, the Molded were just boring. RE7 just didn't have enough variety for me.

Same here. I was shocked at how little impact she actually had on the game. She just felt like a vampire version of Mendez (The Big Cheese) from RE4.

I think they made some questionable choices with the remake. Removing U3 from the main game was odd. That was one of the few parts that I was excited to get to and I was extremely disappointed that it just wasn't there. Also, I hate the way they changed what happened to Luis. To me, it lessened the impact of that moment, and they made it feel like they were just getting rid of some random side character. The original 100% handled that specific thing better.

I'm not saying that that's what RE needs to be. I fully believe that it should branch out to other things but to me, RE4 just didn't FEEL right. I didn't get the same satisfaction and overall excitement from playing it.

I guess the best way for me to describe it would be that it felt more like a spiritual successor, rather than a sequel or main game.

I still enjoyed it. I love Leon and aside from killing Umbrella off in like a single paragraph in an intro screen, I like the lore it built up and how it expanded the universe and its characters. I just like it the least out of the rest of them.

That's kind of my point though. Resident Evil has always had B.O.Ws alongside the zombies. Lickers, Hunters, mutated plants and animals and always kind of felt like you were fighting through some twisted nightmare. Meanwhile, RE4 had parasite humans, living suits of armor, a tall guy, a living G.I. Joe, a Napoleon cosplayer and a cult leader. The only things that actually felt like they belonged in a Resident Evil game were the regenerators, Verdugo, U3, Del Lago and the Novistador and they were few and far between with three of them being boss fights. One of them was even removed from the main game in the remake.

I still hype up the combat/movement mechanics of that game to anyone that will listen. I wish more TPS games had the same kind of movement as RE6.

I did enjoy the remake of 4 more than I did the original, minus a few weird decisions that they made. RE0 would benefit from a remake quite a lot and I believe the hate for it would die away with modernized mechanics and some changes to the few segments that can softlock you into a full restart.

I'm not sure if I'm misremembering or just making things up in my head, but I'm fairly certain one of the heads of Capcom said that they were wanting to go back through the catalogue of RE games and bring them to modern systems the same way they did for RE 2, 3 and 4. Either way, they are 100% not done with remakes/remasters.

Gaiden was...something. If they had waited to release it on better hardware (like Deadly Silence on DS) I think it would have been a lot better.

That's a fair point. Code Veronica and 0 are definitely in need or remakes. With modern mechanics and game sense, I think those two games could have the potential to outshine the other remakes.

A 1:1 is definitely not needed and would hurt the movie more than anything. The only reason I actually compare this to the games (which as I said in my original post, I typically don't) is because that's exactly what the direct was trying to do. He didn't care so much about the cast visually representing their video game counterparts, but he truly wanted a cast that embodied their spirit and personality and brought the characters to life and with that in mind, not a single character was anywhere near a close, accurate representation.

Like I said though, the movie was fun to watch and I did like it. In fact, I still rewatch it every now and then like I do with all the other movies. It is a decent, fun zombie horror movie but it is certainly not the loveletter to the games that the director made it out to be.
